I have been playing drum sets for years and thought I would try the Tabla. I have been enjoying my lessons with Nabin. He gives insight on the history of the drum and technique. Every lesson I leave with more understanding and the tools to becoming better.

I’ve been a percussionist for decades and have been very fortunate to find such a great tabla instructor in the Denver area. Nabin is not just a great performer he is also an exceptional teacher. Even though my background is in rock and Latin music he has been able to help me understand the concepts of Hindustani music and rhythm and we are working towards developing a performance composed of all the major elements of a traditional tabla solo. It’s the most interesting style of music I have come across. I would imagine Nabin can teach to all skill levels and backgrounds as he has been able to tailor a program of study specifically to my abilities and even to my schedule. Nabin is very skilled, both as a musician and as a teacher, and I notice progress for every lesson. To attempt to put my experience with Nabin into words... very difficult! As a professional musician but a new tabla student, he knew how to begin with me and what standards to hold me to. I enjoyed how he set up the classes, we would would play together almost the entire time, focusing on several new or reviewed patterns. He would stop and give me points to focus on and continue. This approach allowed for so much memorization and focus on what would create a better result for me. Learning this instrument has literally changed my focus and grown my mind. When we were not playing he would be generous in his time by talking with me about his vast experiences as a musician and person in this world. With many things to share, Nabin connects with his students and is present in the moment from the first note to the last see you next week. Although I have moved across the world, I will still continue to take online lessons with Nabin. I would and have highly recommended him as a wonderful tabla teacher for any and all levels. If I could give 18 stars I would!

Nabin Shrestha, a great tabla player, great music enthusiast and a great tabla instructor. Having been learning tabla with him, in a very short span, he has helped me grow in every lessons he teaches. The way he teaches helps focus more into the lesson and concentrate. Ive been entranced by the sound of tabla for years, and found a skilled, kind instructor in Nabin. He brings knowledge of classical Indian music and forms as well as fusion chops. Ive played jazz flute and classical piano, but Nabin opened up my ears to new rhythms, a new musical language, and gave me a solid foundation to build on. Highly recommended!

I started taking lessons from Nabin from the age of 12 till the age of 19. I was encouraged by my father to take lessons from him as he saw it as a great opportunity. At first, I was not the most enthusiastic about it since tabla was an instrument I had never heard about. After taking lessons from him, not only did I fall in love with tabla, but I became obsessed with it. Nabin teaches tabla in such a way that it is extremely difficult to not be intrigued by it. He is the most patient teacher and will teach you in a personalized manner. It does not matter who you are, what your skill level is, if there is anyone that can teach you the tabla in the most complete way, its him. Tabla is a difficult instrument to master. Thus, it is important that you find a teacher that is understanding, patient, and works with you carefully to master the smallest details. Nabin is that person. He never gets frustrated with his students and encourages them in every part of the journey.Its not just tabla skills you will gain from Nabin. You will gain appreciation for music, the ability to become more confident in yourself, the desire to become a hard worker, and gain numerous valuable life lessons as I have. He is the greatest teacher I have had without a question and there is no other guru I would recommend.

As a continuing tabla student, having started the study of tabla and mridangam a while back, I am so happy to have found Nabin. Nabin Shrestha is a busy performing artist as well as a top-notch instructor. On the first lesson Nabin knew exactly where I was at and what I needed to work on. Nabin as a teacher challenges me to the point where I can’t keep up, then instead of letting me throw my tablas under a steam-roller, he backs it up a little bit and allows me to catch up. Nabin’s prolific mastery of tabla includes a vast repertoire of traditional and original compositions, endless variations of these compositions, thorough knowledge and application of a variety of styles and techniques, as well as the ability to transmit as much of this as a diligent student can assimilate. Nabin is extraordinarily patient as I struggle with basic concepts like how to count to three. Nabin Shrestha is an exceptional teacher of the tabla. He is a great choice for learning this profound art- form for all ages and all walks of life. On a personal level I have found him to be very focused in his teaching style but also very patient and very process oriented - which is the kind of teacher I need seeing how I just do this for “fun.” For those who want to learn this art as more of a career path my feeling is that Nabin would also be exceptional because of both his diligence and enthusiasm to classical Indian music. I have also known that Nabin is open minded to other approaches as he has collaborated with other musicians of the “rock” genre, etc. So if you are looking for a table teacher that has a strong creative side Nabin is the man.
