My son has been a student here for almost three years. Its been an excellent school since our first day. His teachers excel at their craft and are given freedom to meet objectives creatively. The administration is organized and communicative. The front desk staff are always kind and helpful, even though there is usually a line of parents with questions. The leaders have demonstrated a commitment to trying new things and continuous improvements for the school. (For example, trying out new ideas for honor roll assemblies, car line traffic, etc.) They listen to parent feedback and respond. Weve also been delighted to get to know other school families. I strongly recommend Duval Charter Baymeadows!

Many of the reviews on this site are not fair to the school. Although the school does have teacher turnover, weve found my sons teachers put forth tremendous effort to help him succeed. The guidance counselor is fantastic and makes every effort to work with all parties. The school is clean and the floors shiny. Your children will receive much more personalized attention than they will at large schools. Although the school doesnt have the best athletic facilities, the staff does a tremendous job with the resources they have. Your student athlete will play much more than they would at a mega-school. We are happy with our choice to send our child to Duval Charter.

I chose Duval Charter for all 3 of my kids. I have been impressed with the faculty, staff and coaches from day 1. My kids have always been well cared for and feel safe there. They are also receiving a high quality education. I love that parents and families are encouraged to be a part of the experience and that volunteers are welcomed in the school. I also love that most of the staff know who my kids are and look after them. They do not get lost in the crowd, so to speak, so I feel a sense of security having them at DCBS.Regrading extras, Duval Charter has a great gifted program, has many competitive sports programs and even has a program for highly motivated high school kids that allows them to earn a special ACE diploma. Please, if you are considering this school, take a tour, meet some of the teachers, get to know the Principal and talk to some of the kids, too. I think you will find they have a culture that will make you feel good about sending your kids there, too.

My daughter started Duval Charter High for the 16-17 year. We could not be happier with this school. They have great teachers and staff and the one on one time they give the students is wonderful! No bullying issues. Students get along well. Public schools in Duval do not compare!

This is a wonderful school if you want your child to be safe while getting a higher education. This school did so many great things for me, one of those is preparing me for college. With being in the first graduating class and winning the Reaching for the Summit Award.I want to let you know that this school will put your child on the path to success.

There is no such thing as a bad school but more rather bad faculty. Ive attended this school since I was a high school freshman and recently graduated as a senior from this school and I can (with absolute certainty) tell you that the majority of this schools faculty fail to lubricate the learning process in almost every way. Whether it be administrators sending away eager to learn bodies for a supposed dress code violation even though were no longer students or teachers that come to work putting more emphasis on their social life than our education or the teachers that just dont teach because they dont care.

This is my daughters second year here and we both love it. I especially like the Power School app. I always know exactly whats going on with her grades and attendance. No surprises at progress report/report card time. Lunch is expensive but she prefers to bring her lunch from home anyway. I do wish they would allow the parents to buy uniform bottoms elsewhere and have them embroidered (my kid is tall, Dickies shrink, and Id prefer her skirts be longer). But overall, I think its an excellent school.

This by far isnt the worst school Ive been to. The teachers seem to be more interactive with the students, and honestly you have to be a complete idiot to not get decent grades. The subjects are easy for the most part, but other than that its actually disappointing. You have 2 minutes to get to your classes, and since its so two story building with about 100 kids down a tiny hall, its easy to become late. Bathrooms can be cleaner, but there are no paper towels. Uniforms most be constantly tucked in, and you can only wear 2 colored button up shirts and cheap kaki pants. He lunches are horrible, costing 3$ for a 4 chicken nuggets, a cup of salad, a cup of fruit and a milk. There is no library, and no gym. There are the school deans but they are just are joke, sitting in their offices and not monitoring at reasonable things, yet yelling at you if your shirt is untucked. Other than that, the school is okay. Not to great, but not that bad either.

Take aways are no gymnasium, websites used are not mobile friendly therefore a computer is needed/required for success. Information in initial meeting was more hype than anything. My kids backpacks are stuffed with books. Their backpacks have never been this full/heavy. On a plus side, no major notices like fights, head lice, or any other infectious diseases.

I highly recommended you send you children here... if you despise them. This school is absolutely REPULSIVE and HORRIBLE. There is so many reasons why you should not send your child here to the point where I can fill a whole book about it but the main ones are they give out detentions like it’s water, the principal is racist yet they praise her like she is god. The teachers are disrespectful it’s ridiculous, and your learn NOTHING IN THIS SCHOOL! Please to all future parents do not send your kids here they promise so many wonderful things to benefit your child but they will do the exact opposite WORST SCHOOL EVER!!!!!!!

Weve been at this school for five years. We knew the first principal, we know the current principal. There have been some issues, yes (and they were handled with privacy and respect), but a school isnt a set, rigid environment. Its fluid, and dynamic, and changes with the student base, the parents, the laws, and the teachers. You cant compare what it was like when it opened to how it is now. DCSB was recently awarded a Florida Best in Schools award. We are thriving academically despite what any naysayers purport in other reviews. Our school-wide results dont lie. I witness the educators there going above and beyond for their classrooms and students. You will find bad teachers and teacher turnover at every school, but I believe the ones that have stayed year after year after year (and there are more who stay than who leave) truly show the heart and spirt of the community they have built at DCSB. It is a great school, with quality people (who do actually care about education) running it. Im happy to send my three children there. They will partner WITH you for your childs education and growth.

They definitely push students to exceed. My kindergartener is expected to read, write, add, and subtract. However, this isnt accomplished entirely in the classroom. She has anywhere from half an hour to an hour of homework every single day. Aside from that, every single person on the staff Ive interacted with seems very unhappy and Ive witnessed them yelling at/scaring children on multiple occasions. I dont intend to keep my daughter enrolled there after kindergarten, mainly due to that. I dont want her to think that that is acceptable behavior.

This is our 3rd year at DCSB, and I only have experience with the elementary school, but we have been incredibly happy here. Every teacher my children have had has been amazing. I am constantly impressed with how well every staff member seems to know all of the kids. Every time I walk in the school I am greeted warmly and with some positive comment about one of my children. My older son has struggled with reading and his teachers have really helped him succeed. They have met with me to help me with ideas and have reached into their bag of tricks many times to find what speaks to him and keep him motivated. The teachers love and accept my kids for exactly who they are and teach to all of the students individually whenever possible. I have had the opportunity to spend time in the school helping in some of the classrooms, and I am always impressed with the way these teachers relate to their students. While the school is not perfect (car line, no gym or library, no ability to expand), no school is perfect, but DCSB is wonderfully safe and perfect for my family. We looked at many schools throughout the city, and travel 35 miles each way to DCSB from home, because for us, its worth it.

This place is honestly trash. Their lunch food for the children is disgusting and pitiful and the teachers are so disrespectful! Not to mention they cram together K-12 in that puny school. The hallways are hell when the bell rings to switch classes, it is so cramped that most people end up getting to class late. Their educational equipment, such as text books and computers, are absolutely outdated. For the sake of your children and the future of their education... Do not send them to DCSB!

If you were to take your son or daughter to a school. Choose San Jose Prep they have better faculty that actually stay with the school, good schedules, and a longer lasting student environment. And Duval Charter is very rude to students. So if your kids got accepted for 9th grade take them back to there original school. They as students will not like it and you as a parent do not want to have to keep going up to that school to explain to them that your student is being hurt in multiple ways unlike how a San Jose Prep there faculty is strong and on the case(which Baymeadows cannot do) And San Jose Prep by far has haad an amazing learning environment for there students such as smaller classrooms, one on one student teacher learning, and its also a smaller school with very good students with rarely any trouble. So take your kids back to there original school!

I would not recommend this school the only thing I would recommend is Mrs Vice and the after care program. My daughter hates school and only in kindergarten. She has about an hour of homework every night. The lack of enthusiasm from her teacher is terrible. The person they gave write out the emails cannot get an email right for anything. They have had concert days wrong, days off incorrect, school supply lists, funny how when they are asking for money you get a response back or a million emails to donate/volunteer.

This school, its faculty and its principal Kimbery Stidham are ridiculous. Stay far away from this school. The faculty are allowed to threaten parents then if the parent responds to the threat they Trespass the parent, and when asked to investigate the principal says her staff comes first and its not her problem if the kids cant go to school and they refuse to withdraw my kids and transfer them. Ive had so many problems with this school since August 2017. One of my kids got left behind from a field trip and I wasnt notified until 6:45 pm when my child was nearly locked in the school. The school makes their own rules, they will keep your kid for detention after school without notifying the parent and then have the parent ride around the pickup line until they decide to release the kid at 4pm even if the parent has plainly told all the staff that I need prior notification because of my schedule. The school will not return any calls and my kids have been out of school 4 days because they refuse to withdraw them.

Worst expirience of my high school life. This school is not fit for high schoolers. You are mixing multiple grades into one, causing much chaos between ages. It is not structured for any high schoolers. Due to it being k-12 school there are so many restrictions that high schoolers don’t have a real experience and are not fully ready for college. There is no way to have any school spirit it feels like JAIL. There is so many “donts” but not any rewards. I’ve also encountered SO MUCH RACISM FROM STAFF.I’ve had a staff member tell me to take out my bobby pins because it could be used as a weapon, she claimed it was in the hand book but it was not. I’ve had heard a staff memeber tell a friend of mine : “Hey Muslim girl” even tho her name is on her jack and it’s a common name.I feel as though they target African American students just by the little stuff they do..

Yes this is a charter school but they are very disorganized. So many students are not learnig as they should and very disrespectful. There is not enough discipline. Also they keep changing the schedule and techers keep leaving. Woah! They started this new thing that they got students walking all the way to the red light just to cross the street. Not a good school. I should try a different school next time. Maybe San Jose Prep.

My son has attended since the 7th grade... is now in 11th...very high teacher turnover rate, also, guidance counselors.... they on on second principal (nowhere as near hands on as the first)...not enough teachers to even hold Summer school this year.....My child had a Algebra teacher that had such a heavy accent, I couldnt even understand her... I am pulling him out, and looking and a private school for his Senior year...what a shame, they claim to be superior to public, but not so. Son was into sports also, until the coach left, and never replaced the wrestling program.... no gym, they practiced in the cafeteria...kids play in the .parking lot.....Regret ever having him attend.......I would not have even given 1 star, but would not let me post without it..... also, 2yrs of Spanish, passed, but was never even taught the alphabet....I took 1yr 30yrs ago, and can still recite it....STAY AWAY... I am not disgruntled, just do not want your child to experience this completely non-High School experience

I have been at this school since it opened and I can say this about it, do not EVER take your children here. They will get an extremely limited education and will not learn nearly as much as the school says it will. The principal has no student interaction at all and is only ever seen by students about twice a year, once at the beginning of the school year and once at the end of the school year. The school claims to have better education than a public school but is actually far worse. Even the AICE program is less educated than a standard class at public schools. There is no gym we do PE in the parking lot. There is no library. The school fires all of its good teachers but keeps the bad ones.
