I was a student with Karate School of Virginia Beach for years, since I was 14 years old! I am not aware of any school in the Tidewater area traditional karate, in the manner in which it was intended to be taught. Now, I am teaching these same traditions and self protection concepts at Uchinaa-Dii.When you visit Uchinaa-Dii, you will observe the students practicing their kata, and you will be impressed by their control, separation, power and speed. I believe you will be hard pressed to see the same anywhere else.

Okinawan karate is about more than just physical confrontation, it finds its way into your daily routine. My name is Andrew and I started Obi karate about a month ago . It is a great workout and is super fun. It teaches you so many different things about karate. Im on my first kata . I have been a student at OBI Karate school for almost 1 year. What I like about this school is that the focus isnt on producing black belts, but instead teaching karate in a sensible and logical manner. As Sensei Smith always says we teach and train for quality not quantity. We train for real life and not for competition.

I cant say enough about how this Karate school has helped my son find a safe place of belonging as he grows and learns self discipline, self confidence, etc. I am very impressed. Everyone here is so patient, kind an giving of thier time . Especially Sensei Sean who uses his own personal training slot to work one on one with my son.

When I first moved to Virginia Beach, I looked at many different dojos before deciding to join OBI Karate. We practice an Okinawan style called Shorin-Ryu which focuses on basic movements performed with power and balance for practical defense, rather than teaching flashy movie moves. Every class is a great work out and the small size of the school ensures plenty of one-on-one time with the teachers. I also really appreciate how involved the upper belts are with advising and training the lower belts. I have been training here for almost a year now.Bottom line, this is a great school if you are serious about learning karate. Everyone has a great attitude and is very patient and welcoming to new students. Definitely recommended!
