Master Kim and staff are amazing, they help the children build greater self esteem, confidence and teach positive life lessons. Over the summer the students are encouraged to read and do book reports to help keep the mind active. The older children are encouraged to help the younger ones who then look to them as role models. If needed Master Kim is there for anything the children are struggling with both in and outside the studio. We highly recommend this studio to all.

This is a place for learning martial arts in a traditional manner. Master Kim teaches at all levels from the heart, is excellent with the kids and adults! Our whole family is attending class, and practicing Hapkido together gives us a new way to connect and learn something new together. We are already seeing positive changes in our son- and having a positive role model he feels accountable to outside the family is good for him. Personally, I can take what I learn on the mat with me to perform at higher levels in my business and as a leader for my team. My son had been wanting to try karate for a while. We dont know alot about the different styles so I made him a couple trail classes at different places. Master Kim stood out right away and everywhere we went we were comparing them to him. Needless to say not one person came close!!! He is so personable and interactive, you could tell you were more than just a number there!! Not only is Master Kim AMAZING his whole staff and the kids in the leadership and black belt program were just as amazing. You feel like you belong from the first step inside. At the end of his 3 DAY trial not only did my son join, but so did my 11yr daughter AND myself and husband. Never did I think at 30 I would be join something like this let alone e as a whole family. I started my son in Hapkido almost a year ago because he didnt want to do any traditional sports. He was hesitant at first but after a few classes he enjoyed it. He practiced on his own and saw how much stronger and flexible he was becoming. Hapkido gives him a chance to meet new people while having fun, and strengthening his mind, body and spirit. Hes become more conscious about his nutrition. Through the leadership program, hes learning how to communicate and how to be an effective leader while teaching other students in the class. By teaching others, hes able to have better patience by also honing in on what hes already learned. Hes also gaining life skills that will help him now and in the future.

Great program!! My daughter has been attending almost 4 years. The program focuses on your childs physical and mental in martial arts/weapons, showing respect to others,confidence, situational awareness, recognizing a bully, importance of school and helping at home. There is also a leadership program.

My son started on his Hapkido journey in Jan.2020. The reason we started was because my son was at a low that myself and our family couldnt get him out of. We had decided to pull him out the school we was in since pre-k, at the end of 4th grade. Doing so we had hoped he would make friends before going into middle school. This would be his first year in a public school. My son has always been in the 90th to 100th percentile for his height. That being said he is very shy and quiet and has never had to stand up for himself against bullying. I will never forget when his teacher called me and said that he had threatened to harm himself in the middle of class. He talked to counselors but it didnt help with his depression or the bullying. I had countless meetings with the principal about the issue, but he was slipping further way. My daughter has a really good friend that told us about Master Kim, because he goes there. The first meeting with Master Kim I pretty much cried the whole time. I explained what was going on and he had a couple of questions, and by the end he had me clamed down. That is when I knew he would be able to help. Even with everything going on with Coivd my son has grown beyond what I thought was even possible. He is in the leadership program and he went from making Cs and Ds to Principal Honor Roll. Everybody up there teaches the kids about respect for others and for themsleves. I will always be in debt to Master Kim for giving me my son back.

My son who is 4 years old has only been with Kims Hapkido since the very end if October. He already has shown great improvement in a lot of areas. We originally joined because my sons doctor wanted him in some sort of physical therapy as he has muscle weakness in half his body and after much research we decided to to try here. Its the best thing we could have done for our son! His doctor is shocked with his progress hes made already and its only been just over a month. Not only is he gaining physical progress but he is also gaining confidence and learning a better meaning of the word respect. We are noticing he is able to assess some situations better than before and is becoming better at controlling his emotions in times of stress. He is being set up to have a great future and I couldnt be more thankful to everyone involved at Kims Hapkido.

It has been amazing for my kids. One is in weapons and is amazing. The other in regular hand to hand and is well versed.

We highly recommend Master Kim to anyone looking into putting their kid or even themselves into martial arts. It is well structured, and not all about the kicks and punches. The kids and adults come out with tidbits of wisdom and knowledge that no other place around has. They will learn about goal setting and learn to become an independent person and more drawn to doing stuff their selves instead always having parents doing it for them. I’m 51 years old and in my third year of Hapkido study at Kim’s Hapkido. I absolutely love this studio! Master Kim is a kind and patient teacher with high standards and expectations; he is also a mentor and friend to his adult students. While the Hapkido kicking, punching, and sparring drills provide a fantastic physical workout, the self-defense joint-lock techniques engage and challenge the problem-solving areas of the brain. Master Kim also has a vast knowledge of the histories and philosophies of Hapkido and other martial arts styles, and this knowledge informs the classroom atmosphere. After each class, I leave the studio with a sense of mental and physical well-being which stays with me for the remainder of the day. I have studied at Kims Hapkido for about 7 years. Before I had studied at a variety of disciplines. Master Kim has been by far the best at teaching, encouraging, and helping you perform to your best. Master Kim is amazing. I absolutely love his teachings. I started to bring my 6 year old son to his classes a little over a year ago and he has been going ever since. His classes are very structured and disciplined which I think is very important for children. The classes have helped my son in all areas of his life. He is more focused and he has more confidence in himself.

We Love Kims Hapkido!Master Kim creates an environment that is perfect for young minds to develop listening and understanding skills that provide Focus and Discipline. He is patient, understanding, and stern, fostering respect from his students and their parents. Neil looks forward to classes on Monday and Wednesday, and I am sure he would go 7 days a week if possible. Master Kim also has a great deal of support from his senior students who he involves in the coaching process. The only thing I would suggest would be bleachers to view the classes. Stop by and look through the window. I would definitely suggest enrolling your child or taking part yourself!

My twins absolutely love Master Kim. Martial arts has changed their lives so much already and weve only been coming here 2 months. My kids look forward to coming here every Monday and Wednesday. Hes gentle yet somehow also firm, always extremely encouraging in helping kids understand right and wrong in terms of displaying the proper behavior he expects in his studio. I came here based on the recommendations I read on Yelp and Google, and Im glad I did. Anyone considering bringing their kids here, dont think any longer! Theres no harm in trying it out, always look around online for deals; I received their first few weeks at a steal on Groupon. You will definitely see an improvement in your kids behavior! As an alternative to punishments and warnings, I now just tell my kids when they are misbehaving that Master Kim will be so disappointed when he finds out about _______[insert misbehavior here]_______. :) Works like a charm. :) My kids have never been in an activity like this before, and to be honest, neither have I. At 28, I am learning right along with them and I am grateful for the experience. I love attending each of their classes and the persistence, discipline and courage these kids show in the face of difficulty just amazes me. We missed our first class today, unfortunately, and I feel as though my entire week will be off because of it. I look forward to growing along with my kids in the future at this studio!

Master Kim is simply AWESOME! My son had some challenges with his motor skills and needed another source of therapy. Since Isaiah has been under Master Kim he has improved with his social & motor skills. I am 100% positive that Isaiah will continue to grow & improve while taking instruction from Master Kim.

Student review: I had the privilege to be Master Kim’s student since the year 2000 (8yrs old) along with my sister. I can tell you Master Kim is nothing but the best! Never had one complaint or even questioned Master Kim’s motives as it is nothing but genuine.I felt really comfortable which is huge as a kid. I tried out other studios prior to Master Kim’s and the atmosphere / instruction doesn’t compare.He is not one of those transactional businesses and out to get your money. I can say Master Kim’s business is based on the foundation of relationship and transformation.He not only challenged me physically but also mentally. This is where the relationship and transformation comes in. He was able to make it “click” in my stubborn head, he has a way of teaching that just makes sense...not to mention grasping my attention/interest.Because Master Kim was able to connect/bond with my child mentality, I loved and respected him which in turn made me want to work harder/do my best. I learned how to think, be responsible, disciplined, along with other skills. For a child with ADHD it was a huge skill for me to learn but he held me accountable. Those skills really carried into my adulthood and led to a successful career!I can tell you having Master Kim in my life has transformed me to be the person who I am today. I have been with this studio for nearly my whole life. Master Kim has been a figure of order and discipline in my life. Master Kim cares about his students just as much as a parent cares about their child. He enforces each child to respect their parents and peers. He teaches them to listen and always make great decisions. This studio by far is a great environment.

Prices aren’t posted. After a trial class they quoted my wife $250 per month for our sons membership plus a $550 deposit. This is ridiculous because most martial arts memberships are less than $150 per month.

It has been a wonderful experience with my kids. After being disappointed in other places in the city I found Master Kims Hapkido and have been surprised on the great program it has, the enthusiasm of his students and de quality of all the teachers, it is by fat the best martial arts program for kids in the area.

Master Kim really helped to turn my stepson around. He was directionless and lazy when he got to us. Through hapkido and a new and more productive home environment the Teenager has just about worked himself into straight As and has made honor roll for the first time in his life. Id love to take all the credit but Id be lying. Without Master Kims help (working the snot out of the kid and getting his butt moving) there is no way he would be where he is now.I took hapkido in Korean when I was younger and I loved it. When the groupon became available I immediately grabbed it for the teenager because I knew we needed to get him into activities. Well.. hes totally flourished. He just made green belt and there is definitely some very noticeable improvement in his form and power. When I think back on what this kid used to do and what he can do now, Im blown away.I got to do a bit of hapkido during the month of May (moms get to go for free) and its a crazy awesome workout. Plus this form of martial arts teaches you real life skills. I couldnt recommend this place more. If you want to work out and gain some combat (protect yourself) knowledge then definitely consider signing up. If you have a kid that needs some attitude adjusting and maybe needs to get in shape ... then this is definitely the place for you.

My wife and I found Kims Hapkido serendipitously...we were looking for a Kung Fu studio in Virginia Beach that had day classes, and hadnt found one when we found ourselves admiring the mats and workout equipment visible from Master Kims front window. I had a friend who studied Hapkido in Massachusetts many years ago, but had no prior exposure to the style. I had trained for several years in Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate, and consider myself something of a martial arts snob, but within a few minutes of meeting Master Kim, I was immediately impressed, and he continues to blow my mind with his knowledge and experience every time I make it in for training. Master Kim is absolutely the real deal, and he teaches body, mind and spirit- covering forms, meditation, fitness, discipline and practical self defense. I particularly enjoy coming in for evening classes and seeing how he is with the younger children that train here- he is both inspiring and motivating with all kinds of kids. This is not an easy task! Classes here are physically challenging, but inclusive. I think it is particularly impressive that he has many students of all ages, from sub-ten to septuagenarian, and all are included and challenged. If you are looking to be challenged in body and mind while learning a practical form of self defense (and having a ton of fun), I cannot recommend more highly that you check out Kims Hapkido.
