We have both our 20 month old and 3 year old sons at Hope. We love it, they are very reasonable in price, it’s clean and safe, and the teachers are amazing. Ms. Alicia is my 3 year olds teacher and I swear she has given him some amazing confidence and excitement about learning! I also give credit to her for helping him learn how to use the potty (I was amazed!). She is also just really sweet and really cares about my son! Ms. Nicole and Ms. Renee are also the sweetest Teachers which my 20 month old son has. He still cries Almost every morning that I drop him off because he’s still very attached to me But they are so so patient with him and they don’t make me feel bad or stressed about that. They have the biggest hearts! They all communicate with me throughout the day with the app we use and the videos and pictures are incredible little reassurances that the boys are doing fine. I trust them and they are just a true blessing. I highly recommend Hope!!

My son started at The Hope Academy in January 2020 at 3 years old. I was slightly apprehensive due to the fact he was only a few months into his potty training. The director, Ms. Bev, assured me everything would be fine so we decided to take the plunge. My decision had been made during our tour. I loved the school and how open and welcoming everyone was. Ms. Bev shared her own personal life experiences with me which made me feel very comfortable and happy. I tried to enroll him on the spot but she wasn’t having it. She wanted me to go home and really think and pray on it before committing. This was a huge deal to me because it made me feel like she really cared about me making the right decision for my son as opposed to just enrolling another student. Fast forward to March 2020, covid began. As a single mother who is a healthcare worker, the thought of my child care closing terrified me. The Hope Academy did everything in their power to keep their doors open while following all the guidelines and keeping my son as safe and healthy as possible. I never once doubted their abilities to do so. Beyond that, the school is extremely secure and safe. I know for a fact that Ms. Bev and Ms. Kathy would take out anyone questionable before they made it through the door. They are very on top of knowing who comes in and out. With that being said, I appreciate as a single parent how well we’ve been able to communicate family members coming to pick up my son. This school has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My son learned so much so fast, it was unreal. Their summer camp program is amazing as well. I’ve recommended The Hope Academy to everyone I know who is looking for childcare. I will truly be devastated when it’s time for my child to move on into 1st grade. If you are looking for a school that cares about your child’s well being and has a wonderful educational program, look no further. The Hope Academy is where you will find all of that and more.

My son has been attending Hope Academy since he was 2 years old. He is now in the 4year Old roomWith Ms Danielle, he is excelling in all areasOf learning and always feels safe and loved when he attends. Communication is great and I love the Brightwheel App. It is nice to review with him the pictures of his day that I miss as a working parent. The Director Ms Bev, other staff and all teachers are great. I also enjoy that he eats there and I do not pack his food- giving him the opportunity to try new foods that I would not have otherwise made for him. The Chef does a great job of incorporating healthy quality meals. I have sent my older children during summer camp and have all had a great time! What a gem this school is.

We love this school and we are so happy we made a change over 1.5 years ago. Everyone goes above and beyond to make it a pleasant, dynamic and safe atmosphere for the kids. I mean, everyone. Ms. Bev, Ms. Kathy, Ms. Danielle, Ms. Christina are just a few of those beyond qualified and caring individuals we had a pleasure of meeting. And of course, our current teacher, Ms. Alicia. Our 4 year old is a tough critic, but he loves being in Ms. Alicias class. Her individualand creative appoach keeps our son engaged and occupied. And our family loves seeing pictures and notes throughout the day. We appreciate all you do for our kids. For all your love, care and patience, we thank you!

Hope Academy has been a blessing for our family. I was hesitant at first sending my 3 year old to preschool (because of covid and, also, shes my first baby, I wasnt sure I was ready!), but it was the best decision I made for my child. The entire staff is incredibly kind, educated, and amazing with children. On top of that, they keep us updated throughout the day, sending us photos, meal updates, and messages (when needed). In regards to covid, they make sure every adult is wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer, and the children are kept in their groups (i.e. one class/group does not interact with any other class/group). My daughter jumps up and down when I mention you have school today and she has even proclaimed, I love Ms Alicia (her teacher)! on a few occasions. I highly recommend Hope Academy!!

I am so thankful we found Hope Academy. I was impressed the moment I walked into the building. It is so clean and well kept. It makes going to work a lot easier knowing my children are being cared for by a staff that truly cares about them. The best part is my children love going there too.

As a first time mom I was nervous to send my young infant to daycare. However they made the process of getting my family and child adjusted to daycare seamless, and my baby loves it here! The teachers are warm and friendly, and very understanding to all of my requests. I have peace of mind knowing my baby is being well taken care of when I cannot be there.

Truly the most wonderful group of individuals! My heart is so full knowing how much they love and care for my sweet baby girl, while my husband is deployed and I am working. The teachers really go above and beyond to create a special bond with each child and they keep the children so engaged with indoor & outdoor activities throughout the entire day. I could not think of a better place to send my child and am so greatfull to have found such a wonderful place to call our home away from home.

When this was Hope Lutheran Preschool it was fantastic. When it became Hope Academy it became all about the money. The teachers were great, but I have nothing good to say about management. Management doesn’t even care enough to know the children’s names and the kids did not get enough to eat. I would definitely not put my child or grandchild in this daycare.

Were a military family and recently moved to Virginia Beach. Our son attends Hopes preschool program and I have nothing but amazing things to say about every aspect of the program. The teachers are incredible! They have countless years of combined experience teaching. The environment is warm and welcoming. The class sizes are small (1:6 ratio with teacher assistants). Every day is an amazing learning adventure! Furthermore, it is affordable! Hope preschool has been nothing shy of a blessing for our family.

Hope has offered my daughter a wonderful environment to learn and grow. The teachers genuinely seem to love being around the children. They offer an amazing summer camp, a great after care program, and an educational 2k program for 4 year olds that is top notch. We actually transferred from another school, because we were so impressed with their summer program. The 2k program is well thought out and structured, yet leaves room for spontaneity. A good fit for a child at a vital developmental stage, with a focus on meeting goals required for the preparation of kindergarten.

I have my 2 sons (2.5 years old and 11 months) at Hope Academy and have had a nice experience!Bev really helped make me feel comfortable with some of my concerns for my oldest and assured me they were developmentally normal and would not be an issue at Hope.A VERY special thank you to Mrs. Kathy for really working with my 2.5 year old who had an incredibly difficult transition period from home daycare to Hope Academy. He now loves Hope and cant wait for Monday when he gets to go to school.Ms. Rebecca, Ms. Elizabeth and Ms. Yvonne have loved on my youngest so well! This working momma is very thankful for an establishment that seems to really love her kids. The only thing I wish Hope had was some sort of electronic system where I can see photos of the boys throughout the day – I have friends with kids at other schools that have this option – but obviously not a deal breaker.

If you are looking for a preschool for ages 2-K, Hope is by far the best in the area. We found Hope through word of mouth and we loved it. My first daughter started when she was 2 in the preschool class and then went to Pre-k. They prepared her for Kindergarten by establishing expectations that went well beyond the average, not just academically but behaviorally as well. Their teachers have consistent communication with parents through multiple pathways. When my second daughter was too young for Hope, I checked out just about every daycare/preschool in the area and none of them were as clean and organized as Hope. I was so happy when she was old enough to start at Hope. My second daughter is currently enrolled in the Pr-K 1 class. As a second child I was a little worried about her meeting those expectations and now all of my worries are gone. She has made so much progress in just a year and a half!

Had a pre k teacher INSIST that my 4 year old needed testing because, in her words, there is something wrong and she needs psychological testing. The new director seems nice, but also seems like she faking it when I speak with her. Her assistant is someone I havent had pleasant expierences with, so I avoid her at all costs. Also concerned about the school safety. Day to day safety is fine I believe, but when there was a power outage, I HEARD(just reiterating that it may not be true) one student was not accounted for. The child was found, but the staff member that lost the student still works there. After that, I pulled my daughter out, and i havent heard from them, no one has called to see why or if we were coming back. Firmly believe they saw me and my child as a dollar sign.

WORST EXPERIENCE! I received a phone call Friday that I need to come pick up my daughter from the Hope director because she wont stop crying. However, I was communicating with her teacher throughout the day and I have the messages that she was doing great all day and was taking a nap. When I arrived, she was still taking her nap. The director had a quick meeting with me stating that she suggests I do not bring her back to the childcare anymore because she must have separation anxiety and that she should seek counseling. My ONE YEAR old should seek counseling?? She stated how maybe something happened to her when she was left alone and thats why she acts the way she does. One, she is teething and two, this is her very first time in a child care facility. It is going to take more than one week for her to get adjusted. The week before, school was cancelled all week because of Hurricane Florence however, we still had to pay the weekly tuition. All last week when I was getting harassed at my job to come pick her up early because she is crying, I had to pay the full tuition for all of her half days. Now, the director, Bev Yoakum, told me that she suggests I dont bring my daughter back so, I have only the weekend (when all child cares are closed) to try and find somewhere for her to go because I have to student teach on Monday. AND, she will not give me back any of my money nor the deposit money. I went this morning to speak with Pastor Whitfield and all he said was that he was sorry but wouldnt help me resolve the issue. Hope Academy has horrible management and I suggest that you use your money to place your child in a facility worth earning it!

Management is very unprofessional. Safety is a concern. The doors of the facility are all locked however, a few of my family members picked up my daughter when I was called to get her because she was crying and they dont have the staff to hold her all day and the director did not ask for identification of who was picking her up before they released her.

Our first experience with Hope was 11 years ago. Our son was there for Pre-K and Kindergarten. Mrs. Santoro and Mrs. Powell were excellent! We knew Hope was where we wanted our youngest to attend. Two years ago, our youngest son enrolled in the younger Pre-K class. Mrs. Winter was amazing! Our child had some delays and Mrs. Winter’s Special Education background helped our child be successful.Pre-K 2 was a tough year for our son. He developed a serious medical condition during class. Mrs. Santoro, Mrs. Wooten and Mrs. Shahayda acted so professionally that day and the days to come. The love and concern shown for our son was the reason why we chose a Christian school for our children.God confirmed our choice when the children were praying for our son, their friend. Children learn the love of Jesus at Hope.Mrs. Wher, Mr. Marquay, Mrs. Kathy, Ms. Katherine, Ms. Camilla and Mrs. Rauch are also wonderful. Each one has made a positive impact on our son. We have been blessed by Hope far beyond education.Tad and Dustine Nickerson
