My teenage daughter went there for the first time to get minor highlighting. She wanted to blend in new growth with what had been highlighted months prior at another salon. The gal called it baby lights, nothing major, just enough to help blend new growth. Well my daughter walked out looking almost platinum blonde with major highlights in the front only - total opposite of what she wanted, and, with a BLEACHED EYEBROW! As we were leaving and my daughter turned to pay, I saw that part of her left eyebrow was bleached blonde! She has beautiful dark eyebrows that are very thick and the gal said “she can use a pencil over that”. I said no she cannot- there is no way a pencil will cover that…it was yellow/orange color. Instead of being apologetic at all, she tried to downplay the mistake . My daughter was nice about the whole situation- I think most teenage girls would have cried seeing the totally messed up hair color, then seeing their eyebrow bleached?! Just days before homecoming. Then she says I’ll get some color and that will fix it. This all while the owner or manager is a few feet away watching and quietly tells her what to do. She comes back, as we are still standing in the lobby and hurriedly puts on dark color on the eyebrow, very messy, as my daughter is standing there and in one minute wipes it off and doesn’t even bother to get all the color off. The owner says nothing about the situation, no apology or offer for discount, or future free service (we wouldn’t go there again anyway), and proceeds to charge us full amount like everything was hunky dory. It was like a comedy of errors with no one admitting that these things were not right. Since it was a school, I understand these kids are just learning but the girls clearly missed the mark. The color application was very sloppy (thus the bleached eyebrow) and it was weird because there was no admission that the “baby lights” turned out to be daddy lights and came with unwanted side effects. I would have felt better if they admitted and apologized for the mistakes, maybe offered a discount and treated my daughter better. It was a little insulting to have her stand in the lobby while the gal put hair dye on her eyebrow. Totally wrong way to handle the whole situation. We obviously do not recommend this place. They should try better, treat customers with respect and I would not have written this review . Mistakes happen and it’s just hair but my daughter deserved more respect than standing in their Libby like that and clearly management/owner did not care.

Mr Mitsu Sato and the male professor were so hands on doing my hair. I havent cut my hair to any salons because I heard from friends you could never find one. At last, I have found a salon and spa that Ive been looking for almost 2 years! I am a satisfied customer. Thank you

My first experience at Mitso Sato Academy was excellent, but this time they called me to cancel the appointment while I was on my way there. I dont live close so this was a big inconvenience. When I got there, the Manager did not do anything to rectify the situation. I dont think I will be going back. :(

First, Im obviously aware this is a school and they are not professionals. I came in for a very different hair cut personally for me, I had very long hair and wanted my hair to be much shorter(shoulder length). And I told the student & teacher many times my hair is very curly/wavy so I dont want it too short obviously. Long story short she started chopping like nobodys business in the back of my hair,I realized that it is WAY too short for what I asked. So,now that its summer and getting hot and my hair is too short for a pony tail/wavy I look like a dang dandelion fluff. And the student sadly never even apologized. 😔

Just had the worst experience here! I called to book a wax appointment a week prior and when I got there they had me fill out paperwork for 15 minutes. Then when I go up to hand back the paperwork they tell me that the girl who was supposed to do my wax wasn’t even there! When I ask for another student they proceed to tell me that there isn’t even any rooms for me to have my wax in so I’m going to have to reschedule. They blame it on the computer double booking appointments! Completely unprofessional, they could have called before hand to tell me not to come in but instead they had me fill out paperwork and wait in line for 30 minutes. (I was the 2nd person in line that this happened to by the way) Disrespectful of me and my time, I will never be returning.

As a student, I would like you all to save your time and money and go with a more professionally managed school. If you want inconsistencies, to be nickled and dimed every step of the way come to Mitsu! They’re cheap and GHETTO. RUN!!!

New lady didnt put my appointment in when called this morning. No one to service me. Came back when she supposedly input a new appointment and sat there 20 minutes. Mr. Sato I always come here. Get rid ofthe new lady which she denied i ever called fir tge 1st appointment. Is this not the 20th century? Then why would they not have a relaxer for black hair. Then insult you by making accommodations with offering to buy a box perm. Disheartening and Disturbing . Shame on you!

I enjoy school, my teachers are kind and care about us. Its a really fantastic way to get skin and hair care at a reasonable price while helping a future professional learn their craft. There are levels of professionalism in the students, and that is to be expected. Overall, I am happy with my choice of Esthetics programs at Mitsu Sato. I will come back for services. Learning is what one makes of it.

Knowledgeable, friendly, clean. Practices social distancing, must wear a mask and temperature is taken. 2 visits a week apart and in between time I have been exfoliating on My own. Ive been getting nothing but compliments thanks to The Skin Crew @MitsuSatoHairAcademy! Great job

Overall my experience as a student has been very educational. We are thoroughly taught State Board/ Law and plenty of hands-on opportunities. You as a student learn about skin and relate all other subjects to skin such as chemistry, business and anatomy.

This place is great! I got very badly needed whole head color and cut for $55 plus tip. Salina and the staff were great and the end result has everyone at my job raving about how great it looks. For a school, it is very trending and fun. Highly recommended 👍👍👍👍👍

Tori the student I worked with did an amazing job on my bayalage and haircut. I was so impressed by how knowledgeable this young impressionable woman was on hair cosmetics and styles. The teachers are always there checking up on the students. I loved the atmosphere too. Will definitely be back!

Had a really amazing, calming and relaxing experience. I’ve had a regular facial by Rae and I felt so relaxed and ready for my day. Then I had a chemical peel plus facial, which was the best experience ever. It was done by Rae again, because of her professionalism I keep going back to her. After, I felt like a new woman and my face was glowing that I wore zero make up the whole day. Thank you Mitsu, you are training your students well!!!

Excellent. Students are there to learn and their supervisors are always reviewing as they complete the haircut. If the student is unsure they always go get a supervisor to provide instruction.The owner is a wonderful stylist and teacher. He has assisted students in cutting my hair several times and he is extremely professional and an excellent stylist.

Wonderful staff and wonderful place. Kat completely change my hair and my confidence. She was very kind, talkative, patient, and even let me have a lunch break. We spent 8 hours in that chair and she made every second worth it!!! I love my hair and I love KAT!!

Lindsey S.provided excellent services. Facials and waxing. The client areas are quite cramped. I would suggest 4 areas instead of 6 as that would provide more space for clients as well as students. But, it is a training school. The students are being trained well.

I probably would have not gone here except that a friend had a really stylish short cut and she said she went here. I was quite impressed. The instructor spends time with the customer and hairdresser before the cut is started. The instructor analyzes how the cut should be done, and checks back in as the cut progresses. I had a photo with me and they cut my hair exactly like the photo. It was the best haircut Ive had since my former hair cutter retired. Theres a nice atmosphere at this place. Instructors are kind and nurturing to these students and I think they give first rate. very stylish cuts.

I made my first visit to get waxed. Nicki was my tech and she was fabulous. She made me feel super comfortable and not at all self conscious. She’s a senior student and I could not have been more please. Next time it’s the facial!

Great experience! I was nervous going in, knowing it was a school. However, Ive now gotten a fantastic haircut and color for a fraction of the price it normally costs to get your hair done. I highly recommend it!

Erica was timely. She listens to the customer and attempts to follow the wants of that person. She is cordial but attends to business and does not converse unnecessarily. I wish her the best as she completes her studies.

This is the best school in the Midwest for Hair Art. The owner is a famous hairstylist and he is always around to help the students. This school is where all the top salons recruit from. If you want a great service or want to be a great stylist, this is the only school in the KC area that can accommodate you. Mitsu is the best known hairstylist in the Metro.

I have gone to the salon for two years. I go there for a color touch up and the color always turns out just beautiful.

Always have a great experience here! Ive had everything from highlights, keratin treatments, and facials, to my latest, the eyelash lift and tint. LOVE! Its much kinder to the lashes than extensions and they look incredible. Recommend this place and almost all of their services.

Amazing school! Mitsu is the Sassoon of our time! Such a talented man! It is a hair school give the students a break. Some are basically stylists before they start school, they rock it from the start and are going just to be able to get certified. Others are learning as they go through the program and every client is a learning experience. So be kind. These are students trying to become a knowledgeable and skilled stylist. Without you they would not be able to grow as a professional! So constructive criticism only 😁😁

The service is great, the aesthetician very nice, but I ( wax area) looked like a plucked chicken, with feathers still left. The supervisor was not available to review after student finished, they should make mandatory! I dont make a big fuss but when I got home wasnt happy, also FYI they use baby powder for dryness when waxing, which is a huge NO NO with a lawsuit going around about talcum powder, I freak out then I see it, and she puts it all over your vaginal area !

I have been going to Mitsu Sato Hair Academy for a couple of years.I started because of the price value but now its because everyone is very professional and I like knowing my entire experience is carefully checked and re-checked by the student and then by Mitsu. Since the stylists are students, it does take a little longer than a regular salon so take a magazine or book and take advantage of some time for yourself. I really like the new electronic scheduling system that sends a text and email! I also really like the cleanliness of the industrial decor. My only suggestion is to allow adding the tip on the debit/credit card versus having to carry cash separately, otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.

Last week i went into Mitsu Sato Hair Academy for a facial. The facial i received was honestly incredible. Today i caught myself just rubbing my cheeks because of how smooth my face is.. Ive always wanted smooth, glowy skin and that is just what this facial did to my face! i have very sensitive skin and its easily irritable but the products that were used didnt irritate my skin at all. Which was a relief for me because i was a bit nervous before we started. There was just enough vitamin C that it did the job but not make my face burn. There were also natural essential oils in the product and you can tell when the product is natural because it does not burn. Along with the facial i received a foot message that felt AMAZING! Being a professional model it is critical that my skin looks good.. all the time. If not i could potentially lose clients. I would recommend this salon to someone who is stressed out and has sensitive skin like myself. Will definitely be back for a second one!

It was nice to have 3 different people all take a look at my hair and consult with my stylist before he was finished. I felt confident that I wouldn’t be leaving without approval from my stylist’s supervisors! Atmosphere was nice and I never felt like my hair was a “learning experience.” Just because it’s a school doesn’t mean these stylists aren’t well prepared. 👍🏼

Great hair coloring experience. I will go back for another color. As for the cut, she did a okay job. I was thankful the teacher was there to fix any mistakes that might’ve occurred. That was reassuring. Also Just remember that with it being a school it might take longer than your normal haircut and color. Overall it was a nice experience.

I was going to give this review 5 stars till I went to pay. I was told it would be $155 to lighten my hair. I arrived at 9:45am and did not leave till after 7pm. They had to remove the color they used because it was green when it was supposed to be gray. Then an instructor told the student to put in low lights for which she wanted to charge me. She never told me it would be $45 for 10 foils of low lights. When I told the instructor I was not quoted $155 before I went to pay and I would not pay that. She told me Im not welcome to go back there. I student yesebella was awesome. The other 2 instructors I delt with here good minus not telling me prices.it was the buisness partner/one of the owners and her bad attitude that lost me as a customer.

Its been years since I was a student but i know as the years have past its only gotten better. The instructors care to give each student individual time together, the prices for services are reasonable. Mitsu would teach the haircuts himself once a week. Always happy to awnser questions.

I brought my daughter here for our second time for a cut and color right before school started. She is 11 years old and requested to go here.My daughter is bi-racial And has corkscrew curly hair, lots of hair, and really thick!We have In the past wentbto other places and it has been a huge let down. We often get terrible treatment and don’t feel very welcomed.So it makes my daughter feel terrible that stylists see her hair and automatically feel upset about the time it will take. We were welcomed here with smiling faces and eagerness to learn all about her hair type!My daughter felt so awesome that she had so many people willing to make her feel and look amazing! Shelby went out of her way to make sure she was happy, comfortable, and had plenty of rice krispy treats:)Another instructor actually went and bought a deep conditioner and gave us this service for FREE!!!!! This was just an amazing experience, there should be more places that are willing to embrace different hair types and cultures!We will be back soon!

I wanted to find a cheap option to get my wedding partys hair done. I was really excited to find Mitsu Sato because they book appointments on Saturdays and have a really cheap hair and make up deal. Unfortunately, this ended up being a huge pain in the butt and something I regret about my wedding day. Hair took forever. My stylist took 2.5 hours to do my hair and my hair is neither excessively long nor thick. A few girls decided to get their make up done at Mitsu Sato and we ended up having to redo every single one of them. Im a down to Earth person and not that into make up, but geez. They looked like clowns. Less than an hour after getting our hair done, both of the flower girls hair dos came undone and mine was falling out of its do. They used really wide bobby pins, so there wasnt much keeping gravity from pulling everything down. Girls were seated to get their hair done and then told to move. The whole thing added more stress to the day. Because it took so much time, I was unable to have any pictures taken before the wedding including a reveal with my now husband. To say the whole hair experience was a bummer is an understatement.

They do wonders on my color. Great at cutting. Talented students! Love the spa and the prices! The professionalism in the spa is just as incredible if not more than going to another spa! Cant beat the price of the school!

Easy scheduling, great prices, great customer service. I had my legs waxed. The only warning I have is that instructors will pop in the treatment room without knocking or asking permission. While it is a school, basic professionalism should be practiced.

I have received many great hair cuts here. It seems that there is an increase in rescheduling. Sometimes the changes only involve who will be doing your cut, but now I see changes in the time of day or even day of week. My daughter, a former client, had these scheduling issues and ended with someone who did a poor job on her hair, and had to return to have an instructor correct it. This involved having her hair cut much shorter than she desired. As for me, 4 of my last 5 appointments have been with people I was not scheduled with. Students are often lare. I have been sitting here for 30 minutes, and not one student has arrived .

We have had great experiences at Mitsu-Sato Salon. The stylists are students so keep that in mind but the teachers and prices are very good.

Really friendly and well supervision of students doing work. They have always done well on my hair.They just Never answer the phone or call back quickly or same day.

Sometimes they seem to be disorganized & not prepared for your appointment when you arrive or you have to wait a long time for your appointment. However, the students & services are excellent. Seem to use high quality products & my skin looks great after everytime Ive been. Very relaxing & you wouldnt know they were students.

I had a facial and it was wonderful! The student was very nice and my face was so soft after the facial. She also did a neck and shoulder massage too.

I was very nervous about getting my hair cut. I have had bad experiences! Decided to give this place a shot and was very satisfied! Mickey was my hairdresser and she was amazing. The dude who did my hair, not only was he gorgeously fabulous in every way, but he also looked like Aminé. The stores overall atmosphere was stunning, a bit scary, but stunning. Plus, cheap prices.

Went in for a conditioning treatment on my fried hair and Roseanne told me I had the wrong haircut for my thin hair so gave me a wonderful new cut that solved my frizzy problem. She was very informative and really knows her stuff! Also, recommended product that will thicken my hair so Im excited to try that.

As a parent of a student, this was the most disturbing experience imaginable. Not only was the owner disrespectful, inappropriate and unprofessional to my daughter and other students, he does not deliver on his promise of delivering a good education. The instructors left halfway through her program, leaving us no choice but to find a different school. Also, I did not spend nearly $15,000 for my daughter to spend the day at a laundromat putting her own money into the machines and using her own car to get there. (The ancient washing machine at the school stopped working.) The whole experience resulted in our daughter experiencing tremendous anxiety and put her behind in reaching her career goals. If you are looking for a cosmetology school, mark this one off your list.

My daughter, wife and I have all gone in on separate occasions and been pleased each time. The students are learning and have varying skill levels but the instructors make sure you walk out satisfied. I highly recommend!!

I got a great haircut here. I was lucky that Mitsu was there to check and improve the cut i received. He helped the student to understand what and why he made certain cuts. I jave super thick hair so the way he thinned it by cutting into the hair was wonderful. I wish more stylists knew that trick. Be warned a haircut will take longer then a normal place, because they have to get everything approved. Cant beat the price!

Roseanna gives super duper amazing haircut. If you are an Asian guy like me, who is traumatized by so, so many hair dressers in the US, look no further. Contrast to so many other places where I walked out like a Asian gang member, I walked out of Mitsu Sato clean, polished, and feeling satisfied.

As an instructor at Mitsu Sato Hair Academy we offer the most hands-on and dedicated staff for our students. We strive to meet the needs of every individual and give the best education possible. I am proud to be a member of the Mitsu Sato Hair Academy staff.

As a graduated student from the school, I was VERY disappointed to learn that I did not receive what I was led to believe I was getting from my education here. When looking at the schools, I chose this one because I was told by the school and the owner that I would be Sassoon trained and certified. After graduation, my wife created a bio for me on our business page stating I was Sassoon certified which Mitsu was quick to debunk and say I am, in fact, not Sassoon certified. Why pay the higher tuition costs the school charges if there is nothing that sets them apart? It is a HORRIBLE business practice to say one thing just to get you and your money in the door. With a Paul Mitchell School just a few blocks from there and costing about $2,000 to $3000 less, I think some changes need to be made in their marketing strategy or lower the tuition cost because of the misleading education promises.

While attending Mitsu sato Hair academy I was taught current trends but also was educated on the basic foundations of doing hair. I love the atmosphere at the academy, it very much feels like a real salon. What I love the most is the fact that attend the academy you are part of a family. The instructors are amazing and extremely dedicated to creating excellent hair stylists.

I was scared at first to have a student cut my hair but I was extremely satisfied by the results. They read books and trains on dolls first before they are ready to cut human hair so there is nothing to worry about. They are extremely professional and great at what they do! Check it out!

They washed my hair before she cut my hair. This sweet girl (I dont remember her name from 2 months ago ish) with a very subtle stutter became my one day buddy that day and listened to her instructor when he made sure she was doing it correctly. She deserves a job in a salon and gets 5 stars from me and so does the beauty school. I felt very welcome with the friendliness and how they treated me too. Im actually fixing to head over there today for my next hair cut! Gotta wash this mop bed head so they can work with clean hair ;-)

Not worth the money for a facial. It was only 35 minutes, did not do any steam, extractions or skin analysis. No teacher came to check. All she did was wash my face, do a mask (with no steam so it did nothing other than sit on top of my skin) and put some lotion on my face. Also there is no way to review the students so they have no way of knowing what to improve. Wont do that again.

The most unprofessional place I’ve ever been too in my entire life. Rude staff and unwelcoming environment/ atmosphere. I would never go here again and would NOT recommend it to any of my friends or family.

I got my hair cut and the girl who did mine did a good job. I then had my 7yr old grandson get his hair cut and the girl that did his was impatient. She did not put a towel around his neck, so he had hair down his back and on his neck. When she used the hair dryer to blow the hair off she had it on high heat. She nicked his ear and when he was bleeding she did not apologize, just told him if he wouldnt sit still that was what would happen. He also did not get a hair wash with the cut. She was not going to have the cut checked by the floor person and told me the guy at the checkout would look at it. When I asked him about it he said she said it had been checked. I insisted that the floor person come and check it. She cleaned it up and was very kind to him. He was practically in tears the entire time. I will not take any of my grandchildren there, and for sure will not recommend the academy to anyone again. I probably will not come back either.

MitsuSato Hair Academy is unique because unlike other schools you have the constant training and watchful eye of Mitsu himself. come to this school if you want to make hairdressing more than your career. it is a passion and an art here because we Know each concept and are constantly learning new ones.

Had a great experience with a senior stylist Andréa V. She listened to my concerns and showed me various options to attain the look I wanted. She then talked about various approaches she was thinking about to accomplish it. By that time, I started feeling like I was gaining trust in her skill level. She spent time with the instructor going over her thoughts and a decision was made. Throughout my treatment, she continued to check in with me, the instructor was friendly and very helpful and supportive to the student. She offered her some input that Andréa took graciously.Overall, Andréa will be a great stylist when she starts her career. She is extremely careful, attentive to detail, has a good understanding on how to achieve results and very sweet.I would have given this a 5 star rating but Mitsu still needs to figure out a way for us customers to tip the students with our debit or credit cards. Either that or have an ATM installed! Bring cash y’all for the tip.

I attended MSHA in 2017 and let me tell you, hair school is crazy. Just ask the person who does your hair. It’s full of so many dynamic alpha type personalities that don’t always play nice together. I had never even touched a curling iron let alone seen one in action. But I wanted to be the best barber I could possibly be so I started that long journey with learning the highest form of hair cutting that exists today. The Sassoon method. It really is beautiful. It’s been one of the most challenging things I’ve set out to master. You have to be good with geometry, you will be correlating the way something lays based upon three or more complex angles; the angle of the section of hair youre cutting, the angle you direct that section away from the scalp, and the X-Y axis of the hand holding your scissors. Sounds crazy right? You have to be able to measure by sight and touch, separately at times. You have to really learn how to sculpt in 3 dimensional space using a medium completely alien to anything you’ve ever worked with before. That’s just cutting. Then there’s color which takes a great deal of chemistry and even more pure artistry. You have to understand color theory, because you will have to figure out things like what color can i mix to put over the color of this hair to turn it into another different color entirely. Get used to watching old Bob Ross videos in the wee hours of the night. Because you’ll never sleep for a year. You’ll be stressing about how Suzy’s hair turned out this afternoon. What you could’ve done better. What you’ll do differently next time. And oh yeah, I have to do service X tomorrow and I’m kinda lost on what I’m doing so I better watch some tutorial videos.This is just a simple glimpse into a tiny fraction of 10 minutes of the life of a stylist. All of this takes place under the watchful eye of a paying customer. That has no idea if you’re even capable of doing what is asked of you. So much stressI got a job with a salon my 2nd week of school. I left school every day and put another 8 hours in playing water boy and doubling my learning experience. I’d practice things people showed me at work when I was in school. I attended every class I could outside of school. I replaced my student kit with the best equipment i could get. My salon put me through level 1 stylist classes with Aveda. I had a pretty good head start and it was still terrifyingly difficult. At times I wanted to give up. But I always began with the end in mind and stayed the course.I jumped at every opportunity thrown at me. I styled hair for six fashion shows and photo shoots. I worked Kansas City Fashion week for an entire weekend with my school and Aveda. I made lasting relationships with salon owners, models, designers, and photographers. I could do photoshoot work today but I’m so busy.I graduated and began checking out different salon environments but I ultimately wanted to continue pursuing barbering. I’ve been focusing on men’s hair for almost two years now becoming dual licensed in barbering and cosmetology. I work for a high end barber shop downtown. I still do women’s hair in my spare time.I do hair and I love it. I’m making more money than I have for the better part of a decade. I’m pursuing my next goals of education and ultimately ownership.I’m a success story. I eat, sleep, and breathe hair. Those of us that carried into the workforce, we have a bond, we’re war buddies. I love watching their careers take off. It’s a long long long long long road. Wear comfortable shoes! If you want it bad enough there’s plenty of work out here for all of us! Most salons struggle to keep their chairs filled with stylists. There’s literally endless opportunities out here in any direction you want to go. All the way to the top if you want. You just HAVE to get that license first!I wouldn’t be where I am today going in the direction I’m going if Mitsu and Roseanna and all my instructors didn’t believe I could do it before I actually realized I could. MSHA was the first step of a life long walk down the most amazing road.
