My name is David Meyer and I am one of the first American’s to ever earn a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have taught hundreds of seminars and trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools all around the world. I take every chance I get to recommend and to train at Rocha Jiu Jitsu. Professor Eduardo is a true master. His knowledge and ability to teach is simply the best you can find, and he also builds true internal and external strength in his students. It is unusual to find someone who can teach such a great class, and can also win world championships himself. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is serious about wanting to improve themselves and learn BJJ.

Ive been training with Eduardo since 2012 so this review has been a long time coming. Before I trained with him I trained at several other places. When you start your Jiu Jitsu journey youll hear a lot of myths like lower belts never tap higher belts. Eduardo has alway told the truth straight up. I remember back in the day I went to the Northern California ADCC trials to watch my, at that time, instructor compete. That was the first time I ever saw a lower belt beat a higher belt. The purple belt who beat my black belt instructor was one of Eduardos students. When I started training with Eduardo I was shocked at how he would kill everyone with the basics. I remember the first time I rolled with him he told me, You know what to do when you have space but you dont know what to do when I take it all away from you. Any compliment he ever gave me was mixed with something that I was doing wrong and how I could improve. It was his way of making me better and I can say now that it really did help me. Thanks to Eduardo whenever I train somewhere else while Im traveling Im always able to hang with anyone on the mat. I know if my father was alive today he would be grateful for how tough Jiu Jitsu has made me under the guidance of Eduardo.

I thoroughly researched Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training centers in the East Bay and Ribeiro came out on top for me. Eduardo is trained by the best, is a repeat Master World Champion, and is directly involved in the training. I have taken a number of private lessons and the instruction is excellent, clear, precise, and fun. I highly recommend it. Its pretty amazing to be this lucky to have this level of access in Oakland -- very fortunate.

The instructors and students at Rocha Jiu Jitsu are all friendly and courteous. I personally am not gifted in jiu jitsu or grappling by any measure, so it was great that the instructors were very helpful when I wasnt getting it. I think the fundamentals class in particular is exactly the type of class that every white belt should be taking. Overall, great place to train.

I was visiting San Francisco and decided to look for a school there. I found the school or Eduardo Rocha a 5th degree blackbelt and long member of Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu. I attended a class and booked a private class. Had great help with my guard passing game and using the right pressure and mobility. I can advise anybody to go visit this school, Eduardo is a real fun and respectful guy and he has been doing bjj for an eternity both in the states as well as in Brazil. Thanks for having me!

This is a great academy with top level instruction. I started training here about six months ago as a blue belt with some gaps in my game and feeling plateaued. I really felt myself improve once I started training here. What I enjoy most is the very technical instruction. Eduardo has learned from and trained with the best. He has cultivated a training environment that is very welcoming, and the rest of the students are very respectful and great to work with, offering sound advice and technique help when needed. Rolling with one of Eduardos brown or black belt students is a humbling experience and a testament to the quality of instruction. I tried several BJJ gyms in the bay area and am glad to have ended up here.

Ive been training at the Rocha academy for 4 years now, and its one of the best decisions Ive ever made. Eduardos instruction is very technical and precise, and he always answers his students questions with enthusiasm. The workout is more demanding than Ive seen in other schools, but the vibe from Eduardo and the other students (and the other instructors) is always positive, with everybody encouraged to give their very best and to help others along. If youre serious about learning Jiu Jitsu and youre willing to put in some serious (mental and physical) effort, then this is the school for you.

Strengthens Mind and Body (and its FUN!)The instruction is clear, the classes are well structured, and the environment is welcoming and professional. Great for all levels! My detail-oriented brain craves to know the “why” behind every move, so it’s wonderful that the teachers are very specific from the onset. Many of the students are training to compete and they’re in class several times per week. For the first couple of weeks, I had pre-class butterflies, but I kept coming back because the people are genuine, helpful and friendly. I’ve been at the gym for more than a year now. While I might still wheeze and struggle during the basic conditioning workouts, I am getting stronger and learning a ton! I’m a 5 ft. tall, 100 lb. adult female with a background in dance, but zero martial arts experience. I was initially scared to join, as I have asthma and autoimmune issues, but through this gym and the encouragement of the teachers and students, I’ve learned that my body is capable of more than I thought! I’m thankful for the opportunity. If you’re considering whether to join, please do! You’ll be learning from the best: Eduardo Rocha is a four-time Master World Champion (IBJJF).

I contemplated for a over a year whether I should come learn BJJ here with Eduardo. Ive been training almost two years now, and till this day it bugs me that I wasted time contemplating for that long because thats a year of knowledge that I lost. Eduardo way of teaching is amazing. His attention to detail, his repetition for perfect technique, the way he motivates you and the class to keep pushing and to improve is fenominal. The place is full of great people thatll make you feel welcome. So, if youre reading this review wondering if you should go, GO! Dont make the mistake I made, get your BJJ knowledge on!

Rocha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an amazing school with world class instructors. After spending time searching and researching a few schools, we came across this one. My daughter started BJJ here a year and a half ago and since then her confidence, athleticism and problem solving abilities have greatly improved. Her instructors put time and energy into each student giving them the confidence and skill they need to compete at any level.Due to the atmosphere and team spirit, my older daughters and I started training here as well. They offer top notch kids, adult beginners, adults advanced, kickboxing and women’s classes. As a woman and mother it can be intimidating to start something new but the women’s class on Sunday will make you feel comfortable and confident and is a judgment free zone. Overall this school isn’t just a training facility, it’s a family environment!
