As a part of Achieves class of 2019, I can say in retrospect that Achieve was overall a pretty positive experience. Starting from elementary and especially picking up in middle school, work ethic is built in order to prepare students for high school. As a student now taking multiple honors and AP classes in high school, I can say that 8th grade at Achieve prepared me well for high school. I distinctly remember complaining about the work load in 8th grade, but looking back, it was very necessary for preparing me for the amount of work I would start getting in high school (honors biology in 9th grade hit me like a truck but I recovered very quickly compared to students from non-charter middle schools).I would also like to add that Achieve provided some valuable leadership experiences (in their middle school sports teams and NJHS). This experience will be needed if your child is planning on taking on leadership opportunities in high school, which are extremely selective and competitive processes in larger schools. With that said, it cannot be guaranteed that your child will be able to enjoy these positives of Achieve if they do not put in the effort. The staff can only do so much for your child, so it would be irrational to blame the school for the things your child should be doing on their own. Not trying to bring anyone down, but I noticed that some of the bad reviews from students on Google are from people who struggled due to their own problems (lack of work ethic, bad attitude, etc.).Now, moving onto the cons. Achieve is a small school, and with that comes a very sheltered environment. To some, this may be a good thing, and to others, this may be bad. Take it as you like. Personally, I struggled a little when I first entered a high school campus with 6,000+ students, but I wouldnt worry too much because most students will become acclimated to a new environment within the first two months, but I will say that there was definitely a shock factor there. Another point is that especially in middle school, there was a rather toxic culture of competitiveness among students (and their parents). To make it clear, this is not the fault of the school, since most of the impetus for this con comes from students and their parents. I think that some competitiveness is healthy for driving students toward success, but at times it became suffocating. Finally, I feel that teachers at this school are not treated as well as they should be, and out of that arises many problems. What Im pointing at here is the obvious underpayment for the amount of work they put in (which I understand is an issue not unique to, nor is the fault of Achieve, and rather is an issue all teachers are victim to especially in charter schools). Because teachers are underpaid, a few will move to a different school after being offered a higher salary, leading to mild instability in the schools staff. For the teachers who stayed and the ones who just got started, I would like to give a shoutout to all the dedicated teachers who continue to put in their 100% every day at work.Disclaimer: Take everything I said above with a grain of salt. After all, its been a while since I was a student at Achieve, so my experience may not apply to the present. Furthermore, every persons experience is unique to themselves.

Just ok, some teachers and office staff members are wonderful, however Intervention from higher level in issues is missing making it feel like they just don’t care as long as the kids show academic growth. There’s a certain expectation when you’re trusting your kids to spend almost 1/3 of their day away from you hoping that they should be in caring hands. I still don’t feel it here. This has become a general issue with many principals in schools.

After being a Achieve for 9 years (k-8) I can say that Achieve is a amazing school. All of the teachers are very hardworking working and dedicated to each and every students. I am very thankful the my parents sent me to ACA for my education, and I now feel very ready to go to high school this next year and Achieve amazing things~Natalie Pearson (ACA class of 2019)

Achieve Charter Academy is an exemplary institution of higher learning. They provide a superior academic education for all students. My son entered ACA barely reading and is now leaving Kindergarten practically reading at a second grade level. He is also significantly ahead of grade level in math. They have wonderful enrichment programs with quality staff who not only teach but share their love of their craft. It really make a difference in how the students are encouraged to love learning. In addition to their stellar academics, their parent involvement program rocks! I would highly recommend Achieve Charter Academy to any family looking to give their child the best start.

This place is trash! The teachers are horrible! I am a current student here and as our morals say strive for academic excellence we do the opposite of that! All they do is care about their ranking and overall Score not the students who go their! Their are some teachers however that do care such as Mrs.sparks,Mrs.Waldenmeyer,And Mr. Stasa. The students here deserve to learn not make this place a high rank who cares about that care about the future plus all the teachers are white why can’t they have middle eastern or African Americans why only white I mean come on guys come on

Achieve charter academy is actually a pretty good school. Sure it can be a little to strict with the rules but it was a great school. Alot of the negative comments are just written by children trying to be funny(Seriously you can totally see that they are trying to be funny, by putting one star) . Some of the teachers have a really good learning environment such as Ms Christensen. I actually recommend it.Sure I complain a lot, but the memories stick on you maybe since the beginning.

1.Worst Principal2.No news letters or scores on time3.Because of lazy principal, teachers became lazy4.Principal doesn’t care for parents concerns5.She supports what ever they do as students should be responsible6. It became worst school because of the principal and teachers who damn care for students7. They don’t teach anything on to of it no teachers8. They don’t even publish proper newsletters on time notifying of upcoming tests or inclass happenings for the upcoming week9. They discuss of what happened the past week10. It’s no more a school

To be honest The 7th grade teachers are really sexist, they only really pay attention to the girls. The new tech teacher at the school is really rude when she doesnt have to be. My child came home very sad just because of the tech teacher. He explained to me that she yelled at him for no reason. Other classmates also agree. The te

This school was very nice and the teachers, students, and other staff created an uplifting environment. Especially teachers like Mrs. Victory (8th grade English teacher) and Mrs. Christensen (7th/8th grade social studies teacher). I learned a lot from them, and many more that taught at that school. Mrs.Victory created a very positive environment for her students and taught life lessons through her actual lessons. She is the reason why ¨To Kill a Mockingbird¨ is my favorite book. Mrs. Christensen is extremely smart and educated, and genuinely cares about her students well being. She not only taught me a lot about the world and America´s history, but she did so in a way that caused her students to enjoy the learning process. She helped improve our argumentative writing skills, and it has helped me in high school. (As she always promised it would) There are many more teachers that are highly qualified, but I cannot name them all or we would be here forever. My only main concern WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT, is that charter schools in general do not provide language courses. This may come across as a minute detail, which is not worth your attention. However, I can assure you that it is. Language courses are an important component as part of your child´s graduation requirements as a highschooler. But, they take up a class in their schedule. In a public school you can easily take care of your language courses and move onto classes that your child is more interested in, in high school. I personally struggled in high school because I did not have the chance to get my language courses done in middle school. I wanted to take more courses geared toward the field I wanted to go into, but this requirement inhibited me from doing so. Please consider this, when enrolling your child into a charter school for middle school. I do want to say though that ACA is a really nice school, and there are lot of nice and fun teachers. They are always looking out for students, making sure that bullying is not okay, and comforting them when they are down. I remember specifically in sixth grade we devoted a huge chunk of the day talking about the consequences of bullying and the fact that it is not okay. In seventh grade the teachers always made sure the students were getting help when they needed it. Mrs. Waldenmeyer (7th grade math teacher) used to stay after school to help struggling students in math before a test. Overall, the middle school is great, and that is my only concern about charter schools as a whole.

(This is my experience, things might have changed but who knows.)This is towards the middle school section at ACA (6-8):This middle school does not have a vast array of electives considering that electives are only 30 minutes long. I believe that electives would be beneficial if the school gave any value towards the classes. The school mainly focuses on math and english. Math would be the only class that has a set concrete curriculum. Science and social studies where every other day, which I thought was rather odd considering that it wouldn’t prepare us towards high school. Most teachers would go off topic a lot, and the teachers are all fairly new and inexperienced. The school does not have the option to take high school classes (ex. Spanish) that makes you ahead in 9th grade.Sports: not taken seriously for those kids that like athletics. When I was in middle school the average game won for soccer and volleyball was 1-2 games.Food: Sometimes served undercooked or overcooked, but it is cheap.Environment: There was a lot of bullying and teacher would usually just shrug it off. The teachers I had used to gossip about disobedient students. Also teachers would provide extra help after school, however it was paid. In public school there is so much aid but everything is non-profit. Teachers would meddle in the students personal life (ex. dating, family problems) If you are scared that you don’t want your 12-14 year old kid to be exposed to drugs/ bullying that isn’t something you can control. If you don’t make them aware of what is occurring in the world/ around them they will be more susceptible into peer pressure. (Drugs are everywhere) I had to learn all those things on my own because this school doesn’t teach sex education. High amounts of racism.Grades: 3.0 grade in Achieve Charter Academy is equivalent to a B in a public schools. The grading scale is extremely easy and if your child is looking to get into a public school (or charter high school) it will be a hard transition if they have these grades: 0.0-3.0. Teacher don’t make the assessments like interims. Some classes would focus on things that aren’t related to the class (ex. In social studies the teacher would focus on writing skills on tests rather than actual social studies).Students: People tend to believe that charter schools are better than public schools, because of rumors or experiences from their childhood. My parents also regret sending me into ACA’s middle school and plan on transferring my brother into the public middle school. This school is mainly for kids that are disobedient and don’t care about school, it teaches values and manners but does it actually teach? If you live in Canton, Northville which have extremely good public schools that teach kids to be independent and aware of the world.Academics: Never taught me about current events like ISIS or politics. I went into high school being oblivious to the world. They taught holocaust in english which is a social studies topic. Kids aren’t taught to do their best work, so most just put random things as answers for homework. When I was in middle school here people had high egos like they were better than public school kids. The education is fairly poor compared to public schools because public schools point you in the direction towards college, have a set curriculum that all of Michigan follows and has experienced teachers that have been working for 10+ years. If you are planning to send you child or if you are a student I would recommend Cantons public school.
