I studied with Huan for several years prior to the pandemic. Hes an amazing teacher--patient, persistent, and extremely knowledgeable. I really came away from every class with some insight about Tai Chi and ways to focus and strengthen my practice that I didnt have when I arrived. Theres also a strong sense of community in his classes. People really try to help each other.

I studied Tai Chi and Qi Gong for about 7 years before finding Huan - I was looking for a new teacher and my brother, whos a serious student of Aikido and Judo, advised me to check him out. Ive only been with him for a few months but all I can say is wow! - my last teacher was pretty good but this is something entirely different. His level of skill and knowledge is like nothing Ive seen before - and, unlike many martial arts teachers, his expertise is coupled with an openness and goodwill that really manifest the spiritual aspect of the teaching.

Once COVID hit and my regular Tai Chi class was cancelled, I began to look for another option to continue my studies. After lots of research, I came across Huans Tai Chi. We did an online meeting over video chat and I was impressed with his very deep knowledge of Chen Tai Chi. I decided to try to a few private lessons over Zoom. Very quickly I realized that I needed to study with Huan. After several months of classes, my Tai Chi practiced and understanding of its principles has become much stronger. I look forward to studying with Huan for many years. His level of details and understanding is immense and I feel like Ive just scratched the surface of he has to offer. For serious students, I cant recommend him enough.

Huan is an excellent instructor. For classes, he not only teaches the individual movements in great detail, but also discusses how the moves feel in the body, and the martial arts uses. In private lessons, he is able to gauge what the student understands (or not) and provide the appropriate next steps. I feel very lucky to have him as my teacher.

Ive been learning Yang-style tai chi from Huan for over 4 years, and will continue for as long as I have the opportunity. Huan is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about tai chi (as well as some other Chinese martial arts like Tong Bei and Bagua). He is also a patient and encouraging teacher who wants his students to achieve their goals -- whether that is improved health and fitness, martial arts training, relaxation, or some combination of everything. He teaches the traditional, authentic tai chi forms and techniques, emphasizing the underlying principles and martial applications (which are helpful for context and deeper understanding even if youre not planning to get in any fights!). I started taking classes from Huan mainly to relieve muscle tension, but Ive gotten so much more out of it: the martial, physiological, and cultural aspects have been fascinating and rewarding. Somehow I learn something new and improve my technique every class, even if were reviewing a basic move Ive done a thousand times.I should add that during covid, Huan has made a surprisingly effective switch to online classes. I didnt imagine that online tai chi lessons could work well, and of course the ability to feel how things work with a partner is missing, but Huan is good at seeing and correcting our mistakes through Zoom, and he uses breakout rooms and other videoconference features to capture quite a bit of the in-person class experience. If youre thinking about trying tai chi but are skeptical about doing it online, I would give it a try anyway rather than wait.

Coming from a big traditional Kung Fu school where I spent several years and practiced similar styles, I was extremely surprised to find someone as open-minded and knowledgeable as Huan.He is an open book when it comes to history, health and martial aspects of internal styles, and never saw him avoiding to answer a question of any type. While it might take a while to adjust to the relaxed rhythm of the classes, it is up to the student to make the most out of the time in class and, luckily, Huan gladly helps and encourages to keep studying any detail from all the things he teaches. In general an excellent experience, that probably gets even better over time.

I started with Huan to get back in shape. I have dabbled in martial arts before. Huans classes are excellent for form. He teaches authentic Yang Tai Chi. He is a patient instructor and goes well beyond teaching the Tai Chi form, demonstrating, practicing and explaining how movements relate to applications for self-defense. I have increased my health, mobility and skill through his classes - 5 Stars!

After taking classes with other tai chi instructors in the past, I began studying with Huan about a year ago. He is an extraordinary teacher, and tailors his instruction very effectively to students skills and abilities. As Ive progressed, he continues to introduce new levels of complexity, keeping me consistently challenged and engaged. He is deeply steeped in the culture, history, and philosophy of Chinese martial arts and provides a firm conceptual foundation that enables me to appreciate the principles behind the movements. I feel lucky to have found such an amazing teacher in the Boston area!

Huan is a wonderful teacher-rigorous about learning all the positions correctly but also very patient. Great with beginners but still challenging for people who have studied tai chi for years.

My S.O. and I have taken Tai Chi lessons with several teachers in the Boston area over the years. Huan is the best by far. His knowledge of Tai Chi is incredibly deep and detailed, having studied it since chilldhood. He provides patient, clear, detailed instruction so that you know youre gaining a genuine feel for, as well as knowledge, of Tai Chi. I always leave class feeling invigorated, relaxed, and grateful for having such a wonderful teacher available in Cambridge. If youre considering Tai Chi classes, take them with Huan - he is really an outstanding teacher and the best around.
