Music prep has been an amazing experience for my son. He was able to learn more about rhythmic guitar playing and learning how to read and play his music with passion. The experience working with the staff at Music Prep gave him the confidence he needed to audition and qualify for state UIL. We have been so pleased with Music Prep and would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to take their music to the next level!

Music Prep has been an excellent experience for my son for the past few years. He originally started with classical guitar, but as his interests evolved, he transitioned to electrical guitar and even writing skills. Regardless of the changes, Music Prep continues to adapt to meet his needs. Once I took my first lesson with John I realized I had been missing many important steps in my playing. He is very good at recognizing good techniques and can help grow any skill level. My guitar skills became much stronger with each one of his classes. I would highly recommend his teaching!

My son has begun his sixth year of taking classical guitar lessons from the staff at Music Prep. He has also participated in the rock guitar summer camps. Both experiences improved my son’s technique and performance skills. He has enjoyed all of his instructors and each one brought a different strength to his classes. Our son loves his guitar lessons with Music Prep! He has been studying with Music Prep instructors for over 3 years and has learned a variety of fun music. His instructors are passionate about music and provide a top-notch curriculum which includes scales, chords, music theory, music reading, and technique at each lesson. Our son looks forward to his lessons and enjoys sharing his latest musical selections with family and friends. We are excited to attend studio concerts in the winter and spring seasons. They went above and beyond in helping my son prepare for auditions for a summer program at Manhattan school of music in New York City. John developed and taught our son through three years of classical guitar in our sons middle school. Our son enjoyed his guitar class so much that he asked to have additional lessons with John on a weekly basis. Our son gained so much confidence in his musical abilities by working with him. Excellent instructors. My son started taking acoustic guitar lessons in middle school and decided to take extra lessons with Music Prep to hone his skills. John is very knowledgeable and excellent instructor. After a year, my son decided to learn electric guitar and is now having lessons with Calvin; another great musician and instructor.

This music school is great to work with, from the musical side to the business side.They use a methodical curriculum that teaches kids to read music, but they are also willing to individualize the songs kids learn. In my experience its hard to find a school that can balance teaching foundational skills with motivating students, so Im super happy we found Music Prep!

Our son has taken guitar lessons from John for several years. While we’ve always appreciated John’s professionalism and very courteous approach, we always left the decision about music lessons to our son who has a lot of respect for John and has thoroughly enjoyed learning from him. I took guitar lessons from Music Prep for years until I had to move away for college. John Montemayor was my middle school teacher and I decided to take lessons with his school after that. Everything I have learned is thanks to John and Jeffrey, who also teaches at Music Prep. Both teachers are excellent in what they do. Because of their help, I played in my top high school ensemble and even in the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Orchestra.
