This is just my opinion but this school is corrupt. I have been here for several grades and the only thing that has changed is the mood and teachers. I feel ashamed going to a school where teachers are overloaded with work and dont get to enjoy lunch like us. Instead, the principal likes to care about money instead of out mental health. I wish this school would change and would be a better place. I simply feel dissatisfied with the amount of corruption and abuse going on, especially drug use among some students along with bullying and teachers not giving a heck about it, instead claiming to tell them again but denying the fact they saw anything. I hope that education gets better and the school gets better too

Terrible school! They dont have ANY Provisions for split households, they favor whichever parent they like more and they do NOT like being questioned about their ineffective policies.

I wouldnt recommend this school because the way they manage their students and education is disgustingly bad, dont even get me started on the food, the deans and the teachers are so selfish, All the dean does is yell at ask for a mask they dont even check us for id anymore and when a student came to them for help they didnt even help.

After hearing of great experiences from multiple neighbors, we toured the school and agreed that it has a fantastic curriculum based on children building self-confidence, finding their strengths, and becoming a leader in those strengths. We couldnt be happier. Theyre also doing their very best during a difficult time in our world with a hybrid system.

Their motto: Its more important to be morally correct than factually correct. This school used to be decent and had a good curriculum for humanities courses. Now the science education is improving in breadth and depth while the humanities are suffering. Kids learning here can hardly spell and have poor grammar. The homework load is unrealistically light compared to what theyll face in college. The teachers here are young, inexperienced, and arrogant. Theyre more concerned with activism than education. The kids will be hyperaware of social situations to the point of suffocation but wont know how to spell suffocation.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE, this school just focuses on there reputation, they do not care about there students mental health. The teachers focus more on students behavior than there education. There grading system is horrible, if you experience bullying the staff will do absolutely nothing, if you are failing classes you will be judged. You cannot express yourself or you will also be judged. If you are thinking of joining this school PLEASE read the reviews!!

Great school just didn’t give us a snow day that we deserved it was a 99% chance of a snow day at the end of the day and apparently a late start means it’s not dangerous to drive on an icy road

This school is absolutely ridiculous. They take nothing seriously. Going to a new school now, i realized how restricted this school was, its like a prison. They dont care about how the students feel. The math department is terrible, had at least 8 math teachers in 2-3 years. They dont have enough class rooms for teachers. Lunch rooms are way over crowded as you are not allowed to eat in any other area of the building. If you have to use the restroom during lunch, you must give them your things as a guarantee youll come back. Teachers have to use their lunch breaks to guard the doors. When lunch is over, youre not allowed to walk to class in the halls, you have to walk around the building and go in through the back doors, while guards are watching over you of course. You are on full lock down. They have no trust in their students. The trust system is as if we were juvenile delinquents. The students are immature and pick on you constantly, if you report it. Nothing will get done about it. If you want your child to be mentally stable throughout high school, do not sent them here. They only care about the label the school has, not the students.

As a former student, please listen to me. If you want your student to succeed in the future, do not let them go to The Academy. I was one of the top students in my class, I worked hard, I helped others, I pushed to go beyond my limits, and I accepted and tried to correct my faults at times. However, when attending my college orientation recently, I realized that none of that matters. It does not matter that I took any AP courses, honors classes, college classes, participated in extracurricular activities, etc. If you cannot use the skills that were never properly taught or supported by The Academy to pass a placement exam with exceptional skill, you will get laughed at and told youre not good enough to be in your major. And Ill be honest, I am shocked that Im able to attend my university, as I received no scholarships. That being said, it doesnt matter if your child is one of the tops in their class, if they dont score above 1260 on their SAT (or equivalent on the ACT) they will not get any scholarships if they are planning on attending a big institution. And that was something that was news to me until a few months ago. While I am certain many students may have been told or experienced differently than me, it’s not fair for students like me that are not given an honest discussion about the requirements for college acceptance and achievement. But, beyond the AP tests, scores, the SAT, and a lackluster and useless curriculum, The Academy has set itself up for failure in many other ways. Much of my high school career and my peers was filled with inconsistency and lack of effort in their educators. If we didnt lose an entire department of teachers one year, we had a few awful ones that caused issues with students passing their classes or staying sane. Finding a new teacher for every subject, every year, for many reasons, is harmful to the students and the parents involved. Not only is the school creating a bad reputation for themselves, but theyre also ruining the foundation the school has built with their older and newer staff and administrative team. The Academy has a serious problem with drug use amongst students. It can be expected at every school some students may smoke marijuana, do other recreational drugs or inhalant devices: Vapes, Juuls, and Novas, to name a few. Yet, there was not a class period that a student was not hiding a device in their sleeve to smoke during class or stories of teachers that discussed their habits of drug use outside of the school with students went around. The most done about this was installing nicotine detectors. Truthfully, sensors didnt stop the peer pressure and secret ways of participating in drug use during lunch and class periods. One good example of student conflict at the school, was the countless fights, arguments, confrontations, exclusions, bullying and harassment that occurred between students and sometimes with teachers. It was often difficult for many to express their political and social opinions because of fear of bullying or receiving punishment for doing so. But, high school seems like an appropriate time to start developing and kindly sharing those points of view. In my opinion, that is not a very safe place to be.Finally, The Academy claims to be a safe, helpful, college-prep school that does not have a bunch of students, rather a family. But, I beg to differ. If you want a consistent school that will teach a practical and beneficial curriculum, with a stable set of educators, do not let your student go here. If you want your student to be safe in sharing their opinions, identity or thoughts, without punishment or harassment, do not let them go here. If you want your student to be encouraged not to do drugs and not suffer socially for choosing not to participate in toxic behavior, do not let them go here. If you want your student to go to college without apprehension about testing, scholarships, and a sense of self and security in their ability, do not let them go here.Thank you and I rest my case.

Ive gone to this school since kindergarten as my parents will not let me go to another school, and the experience has been fine. Ive met a few amazing friends, but all in all the people suck. If you report bullying, or even people telling you to commit suicide, the staff will take it into consideration and do nothing will be done about it. The school cares about its label and reputation than it does its students mental health and compatibility with the subjects. For as long as Ive gone here the staff has only cared about pushing students to think endlessly about college, even in early, early years. This school has made my life hell. The trust in students is very very minimal and they will let people be openly shamed and dismiss it as being rude Personally, I have had mental health issues for a long time and the school does nothing to help with it, going as far as deny serious allegations that students make. The school does nothing about its students, who are horrible and will only shame you if you arent a cookie cutter. If you arent a college-ready student the school dismisses you without any help and does nothing to help you improve, so that youre just stuck with endlessly bad grades and no understanding of the subject youre learning about.I shouldnt think that students like myself should dread going to school because they know they wont learn anything, be harshly criticized by their peers and have nothing to do about it, and scared that the bad feelings and things that happen to them will never end. Though they do hire some teachers that do genuinely seem to care for their students and improve their skills, it does not make up for the fact that they wont improve their system. Heightening the security was a good decision, but they still refuse to do anything about students with poor mental health. Though counselors do take time to listen, any minute youre out of class is a minute wasted to the staff. If your child is unique or has any personality at all, do not send them to this school.

Student(s) receive stars on all his classwork (and homework) even though when it comes home it is incorrect; the student didnt follow the directions at all, or it is left blank. I am not understanding how this is helping children learn. I feel like this is setting them up for failure in the next grade and in any other school that doesnt baby 9yr olds and 10 yr olds. When they learn their math facts wrong is it just up to the next teacher to correct them or at home with the parents? We dont get any backup because the teacher/school is not requiring the same attention, effort, or practice from the student. Its just an argument at home and the child being basically home schooled while we pay for lunches (which arent that nutritious-a whole other story), uniforms, some type of yearly fee, and asked to financially support the school (fundraisers) about twice each month for the entire school year. AB Honor roll but repeatedly for a full semester had homework completely wrong, writing worse than the grade before, comprehension scarce and spelling momentary failed and got to retake failed exam/tests/quizzes that are factored into his grade and performance/effectiveness of the teacher. Forget the grade these are all signs that this student needs the Personal Attention the other review talked about. To top it off none of these facts: failed exams, writing, slack in reading comprehension, spelling, math, etc. were brought to our attention. Even with failed tests, every parent teacher conference was dont worry, hes doing great! I dont penalize the students for failing/getting a bad grade the first time. Grades are to let the student eventually know and the parents know how well the student understands it is not a Bestity contest or raffle for prizes.
