Waukesha STEM Academy is a school that has its ups and downs. This is still the best Middle school in the whole Waukesha/Brookfield school district. The academics are very unique because in Math and Science you can move at your own pace. Mr.Brookins, Mr.Osmin, Mr.Sonier, and Mrs. Wofel are the best teachers here at this school. There are social and academic rules that if you follow here at this school you can become very successful.1. Use you Aleks time in Math wisely and try to get your Aleks topics completed and never take “breaks”.2.Get your work done in flex and connect so that you can be able to not have homework at home.3. Complement the teachers and staff even if people consider you uncool.4. It is okay if you sit at the “Nerds” table for lunch because you will end up finding some great friends that have the same interests as you do.5. People here have very inquisitive minds and they can sometimes ask you a lot of random questions, make sure to answer them kindly.6.Take time to consider the future and if you want to be in the engineering/technology field study hard/ take AP classes in High School/Try to get into The Engineering academy at South High School.7.Try to move up in math and science because it will be worth it in the long run.8.At the beginning of each unit here take your work ethnic strongly and try to get your practices done ahead of time. These thinks will benefit in the long run.8. Take the Biology test in 7th grade and try to pass because it will definitely be worth is and in high school you can take AP Prep Chemistry.

I did my student teaching at STEM, and then immediately enrolled my children. They have been at STEM for years and we have had a wonderful experience with all of our children. This is a rigorous program that not only provides children with academic instruction, but also provides students with life skills, such as independence and critical thinking skills. The staff communicate frequently and support students as they learn to manage their time and their projects for themselves.

Before I get started I just want to say most of the 1 Star Reviews are from people who either a) don’t get their work done, b) get in trouble, or c) both. In all honesty, this school is decent. For the most part, the teachers are good, the education quality is good, and the school building is alright. The issue arises in the schedule and the ideas that can be a bit half baked at times. The schedule is god awful, we don’t have normal periods, we have cores which are longer than regular periods. The Pathways/Electives is so much of a mess to understand how it runs I’m gonna spare you the time and not explain it in this review. FLEX and Connect are times where you can make up on work which is a great idea, especially for a middle school. The schedule seems to just change at a moments notice sometimes. My biggest single gripe with this school is the lack of a history and social studies classes, not the best for going into high school.TL:DR - Unique school with some great concepts that are a bit rough around the edges. Get your work done and you’ll be fine.Light to Decent 5.

I think that this is a good school because it gets kids ready for high school unlike other schools. Most of the staff here are great at their job and really cares about their students and their students future. They also help their students intreseted in different career options. I recommend STEM for anybody who cares about their future.

I, personally, like this school. Although it has very little structure and can change schedule almost on a dime, it gives you the freedom to apply whatever interests you into your learning. Most teachers are nice(if you’re actually a good student thats here to actually learn), and some possible opportunities to learn whatever you like. If you are a reasonably trusted student without a history, the teachers will listen to your complaints about other students, and if they don’t it’s most likely a minor problem that you can solve independently. Lots of cool tech that, if you have the money for the materials you CAN actually use(I’m looking at you, reviews below me). However, there’s no air conditioning and lots of.... ‘meh’ people here, but you can find a group of friends where you feel comfortable, they shouldn’t be a problem. And no, the principal didn’t use the school budget for a pickup truck(he used is paycheck though, which comes from the school district.

Waukesha STEM Saratoga Campus is one of the best middle schools any hands-on learners could hope for. Those who apply themselves and actually do work succeed. The teachers regularly go above and beyond the call of duty to help those who are struggling, offering choices, programs, and more to aid those struggling, and advance those already at the level of proficiency. There are some in the review section who have had negative experiences, and while I cannot deny the existence of some faults in the system, there are enough opportunities to remediate their grades, or learn things they missed while they were sick, or on vacation. All of the teachers, as mentioned previously, help engage and expand my educational capacity. The transition is jarring at first, but after my first year I caught the hang of the flow. The school is not designed efficiently, however. I pity the poor sap with the locker on the other end of the school to where most of their classes are. However, the end of year activities are engaging, and fun. This school deserves 5 stars.

This school is utter trash. Staff are Disrespectful, hostile, and are just plain mean. We have gone through 3 different band teachers over the last 3 years. 90% of the staff is arguing and disrespectful. 10% of the staff is nice and respectful. This school does offer a lot of engineering and hands-on projects. The kids that go to this school are also disrespectful and a majority of the time bullying or being bullied. The 8th graders of the 2017-2018 are the last hope for this school. The elephant in the room is the principal. He abuses his power and if often listening to staff instead of students. I find myself being yelled at for no reason 90% of the time. Seriously DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL!!!!!I went back to this school during a break and it was a complete mess, half of the teachers didn’t do jack to stop bullying and kids screaming their heads off.

My son has attended this school for all 3yrs and now is moving on to high school. I have positive and negative thoughts on his time there. Unfortunately, more seem to be negative. As far as his education, it was okay. I feel that if you have a child who works hard, but is still just a average student despite their efforts, they may be lost in the crowd. The philosophy that some of the staff has is for students to ask their peers first and then ask the staff. I disagree with that. Also, it looked like at times the staff was pushing their own personal agenda on students.(ie; presidential election and the national walkout)The discipline, in my opinion is lacking. Bullying of students and harassment of female students was noticed throughout the year by my son. Not much seemed to be done about it. I felt the school counselor was, to use the schools dialogue, less than proficient. If you have a child that needs to see the school nurse, have no worries, Ms. April is incredible! The last thing I have to say is, all the people who write reviews and mention the negative reviews are by bad students, so be it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I wish I had more positive things to say, but I do hope this helps you to make a decision on the right school for your child.

Some things you should know about middle school is if you have your mind set on one college you should do whatever academically that will improve you chances of getting into that specific college.Math: By 8th grade you should be in Algebra 2Science: By 8th grade you should be in Biology any you should take it early.Literacy: You should be in a 9th grade level english class by 7th gradeThen if you want to be in a technology carrier path you should go to Waukesha Engineering Preparatory Academy.I hope that this will help, I prefer to remain anonymous.

I am a STEM graduate that found this school to be outstanding. Those who excel in academics are enabled to do so by the knowledgeable staff and challenging courses/standards. I found that those who struggled were always given the personalized attention they needed; they would only go through school failing because either their mindsets prevented them from making progress, or they, for whatever reason, didnt advocate for the betterment of their learning. The only bad experiences I had at this school were ones I inflicted upon myself because of a negative mindset. Though the framework was always in flux, by the end of my 8th grade year, I had deep connections with quite a few teachers.I also learned about independence. Once you establish your grounds and prove that you are responsible, self-reliant, and hardworking, you are enabled to do things that most would not see in a typical middle school. The best opportunities in this school are ones that you earn by being respectful and doing the best that you can. For example, a biology class is offered to students that have proven themselves to be responsible, respectful, and capable of learning, among others. Opportunities that you may have never been privy to will appear once you have found your center in STEMs ever-changing environments. I would not have been a member of the Youth Advisory Council, a board of middle and high school students that promote and spread the word about personalized learning to school boards, out-of-state students, and principals, if it werent for STEM. However, I would never have been given the opportunity unless I worked towards building my character, doing well in academics, and having a flexible state of mind (which is always encouraged by staff).STEM also has flexible learning spaces; there are no desks in rows (at all). The setup that STEM has makes it easier for collaboration and innovation to take place. In addition, the chairs, couches, and seating arrangements are very comfortable. When I came into STEM as a 6th grader, it was a hard transition from having practically no homework to having math problems, essays/stories to write, books to read, and science activities to complete on a weekly basis. Having STEaM, a project-based class that focused in on science, technology, engineering, and/or math, on top of that was a little rough at first. Rather than getting mad at the school, I looked to myself and made changes to the way I managed my life. By the time I graduated, I would finish homework with hours to spare and time to interact with my family, do sports, and things I enjoyed. As a result of that, I ended up being more prepared for high school than I ever would have dreamed; I watched other freshman struggle to maintain their workloads because of a lack of self-sufficiency, time management skills, organization, and the like, and though the transition period was tricky for me (as it is for many), I was able to adjust quickly to high school because of the skills I acquired at STEM (that I would not have gotten if it werent for the higher expectations I set for myself and that the teachers coincided with).STEM is a great place to learn, and the challenges you may encounter can be worked through; that mindset is what prepares you for high school: not a history or geography class.Personally, I enjoyed this school more than I can explain, and I cannot begin to express my gratitude to all of the teachers that challenged me, helped me, stood by me, helped to write personalized curriculum, and allowed me to be independent.
