Fantastic school with wonderful faculty & a culture of learning. Highly recommended based on 4 years of great experiences. We have found the teachers to be the most caring & dedicated. Both kids & parents love it!

Basis is constantly working on improving there sports Teams and adding new options for people to do sports, the HW is hell but the education is well worth it, if you plan on going here then come to school with a productive mindset for it is easy to fall behind in class work and Grades.

I have been attending the school since it started. I am going into my sixth year now, and intend to stay until i graduate. The curriculum is very strenuous and is good preparation for college, that being said it is too much for many students and as a result, many students are forced to leave early. However, all students can get the help that they need, and all have a better chance at success here than at many public middle and high schools.

This is our first year and we are very happy with our decision thus far! As an educator, it is truly a breath of fresh air to see teachers that are not only very knowledgeable but passionate about what they do.That has been our experience with all of our daughters teachers. ( Especially, Science ! Go Mr. A)Students are cultivated to be hard working independent learners. The operative words being hard working. If your family is not fully invested in your childs education this is not the school for you.Educating a child is not one persons responsibility but rather requires a collective work. Success in Basis requires teachers, parents, students and the administration to work together and keep the lines of communication open and consistent.

Basis is a hard school, with no space in the building. I am a tenth grader and from my experience I know that basis has a high turnover, with most teachers leaving after 1-2 years. The Spanish department is a mess, with people my age having 6+ different Spanish teachers over the last 4 years. The other problem is the space, because we have close to 600 kids in this office building and we don’t have enough rooms to have one room per teacher and so during passing period we have all 560 kids and teachers out in the narrow halls. Then some people go the their lockers and make the hallways smaller, making corners and whole stretches of hallway packed full of kids and teachers trying to get to their rooms, making passing period chaotic. The other problem is the homework, because things like the math problem set can take hours to do, and that’s just one class, so when you add in all the extra stuff the workload takes 2-4 hours per day.The things I do appreciate about basis is that many of the staff like the deans and the lunch lady and the (one!!!!!) custodian are nice, the front office staff are helpful, and most of the rules are fair. I also enjoy outside lunch (for highschoolers only).I think if you are planning to send your child to basis you should send them in fifth grade and not as sixth graders to allow them to make their own decision on whether basis is right for them. Another reason to do this is because 5th grade is pretty chill, but it allows you to get used to math homework and the overall basis “style” of doing things.

This school is the absolute BEST school I have ever been too, yes there is a very rigorous curriculum, however in the long run it is so worth it. Sadly I had to move away in 7th grade, but the friends I have made stuck with me through it. I am so very glad I got to go to this school, I would go back if I could. Shoutout to Ms.Todd and Mrs.Beabout!

I have been attending this school since 6th grade, i am now in 10th, the school is great on focusing on our education, and preparing us for college, but the school cant provide a proper gym, there arent any sports, except for cross country and flag football, we do not have an auditorium, so when we have a performance we have to perform at a church down the street, and theres not enough space, teachers have to share rooms with other teachers during class. this school is really stressful, most of the time, but in the long run its worth it, this school prepares you after you graduate high school. this school is providing private school education levels for free! if you want to get a high school experience, this school is not for you, but if you care more about your education, come to BASIS

The teachers are what make this school really sing. This location is great - at the nexus of every Metro line making it easy to attract students from all over DC. The diversity of the student body should be a model for all.

I am in seventh grade and this school is too crazy. This weekend I have to write an essay for logic, do a history project, and write two TIEE/IEE paragraphs for English. Also, we have a huge biology test on Wednesday. There is too much hw, and I think everyone can agree on that. Basis has these stupid award ceremonies every grading period for students who show academic prowess or something dumb like that and all it does is discourage students who to not receive the awards. I am a student who does get these awards so this is not a biased opinion. I can see the effect this discouragement has on students at Basis. The school is also in terrible condition. Barely any of the bathroom doors lock and last year many of the doors would fall off the stalls. The school is too small, and basis says that isn’t their fault, but if you hear complaints for ALL OF YOUR STUDENTS about the capacity in the building maybe you should enroll as many students. Just think about that. Nevertheless, I’ll give you 3 stars because some of our teachers are pretty good and basis let’s me compete and always win against kids from other schools about how much hw and tests they have. Otherwise, this is a school that treats their students like adults in a job. We do not work for you so stop acting like it. Bye 👋

I was a student previously at this school and from my personal experience this is NOT a school you would want to send your child to. In the time I was there the classes were far to difficult for a person transferring in from a different school which makes it near impossible for anyone to join into this school at the beginning of middle or high school. Some of the teachers in this school are incredible but most teachers are unable to provide tutoring or measures for someone who is transferring into the school to get adjusted to the core curriculum. The principles themselves are also terrible, before I left this school I was physically dragged into school on a Monday morning in front of my parents after an altercation between me and another student occurred the previous week, this was a non physical argument between both of us. The principles also are prone to threatening people, as they did with me by saying they would get me arrested. The only way I could fix this situation was by leaving this school and moving to a different school, which was a lot more supportive and encouraging of my future. In conclusion, do not come to this school, I went for a year and a half and in my experience, its simply not worth it. The education standards, teaching requirements, and responsibility of the principles in this school are all sub par compared to other schools, I was in 8th grade when I left and during my time I could clearly see how people in their final years of high school had no plans for colleges or universities. If you are looking for a school that cares about your education and the friendships you make then look for schools such as School Without Walls or BISW.(By moving to my new school I was able to have a larger access to colleges and universities around the world, now I am moving to the UK for Kings College.)If the principles from 2012 are still there I hope they know who this is and how much I have succeeded from not being at their school which they have evidently neglected, without Basis I was able to achieve so much more in life.

I hate this school im in 8th grade if i want to pass i have to cancel everything with my friends, their training us to be machines and office workers, also alot of the 8th grade teachers dont teach us things well need to use to pass the comps. this school only cares about the schools reputation not the students mental health, the school puts so much work onto their students and then blame the student for having bad mental health instead of looking inside the school and trying to help the students and give them less work.

Basis DC is a school widely known for its academic achievements and scholarships. However, it is also widely known throughout the student world as an incredibly intense, harsh, and stressful school that prevents all chance of having any sort of fun outside of school from 6th-8th grade. The middle school is deleterious towards mental health, and for many students, it is a school of bullying, intolerance, and general negativity. The high school is ok tho lol

I have been a student at this school of 3 years now and the school is very an I mean very stressful.. They give your up to 6 hours of homework plus a bunch of test each week some of the teachers are very kind and will help you with anything you need but others do not provide after school help or just dont teach well in general I suggest not coming too this school unless you are someone who is mentally and physically up for a challenging and stressful academic. If you are not up for a very challenging academic I do not suggest coming here. After each grading period they hold an award ceremony for students who have been successful an earned a high average to me the award ceremonies are humiliating because those who do not get an award the staff basically says Your Stupied maybe this gives students motivation to get better grades in my opinion it doesnt help it just hurts. At the end of the year there is a test basis made called the comp which counts as 50% of your entire grade. Not passing them means your have summer school which basically is retaking it if you fail again you have to repeat the grade to me the only thing that should count is failing a class not the comp as its only a a stupid test the school made.Thats my opinion on the school and just how hard it is.

School is to fast. A test every week. A quiz every Friday. And what makes this school horrible is the lack of resources and too many consequences reguarding to a CJ. This school should have recommendations for students that dont tolerate the work effort for this school. One of my many choices is School without walls @ Francis Stevens.
