My son attended this school for 1 year and I’m sorry I didn’t pull him out sooner! He started coming home with his clothes torn in the same place every time, on his back by his right shoulder. The teacher and staff NEVER saw how it happened! The first item of clothing to come home ripped was a brand new denim shirt. We also went through 3 winter jackets. I repaired each of the jackets several times until they couldn’t be repaired anymore. The final incident was when he came home with fingerprint shaped bruises on each of his arms. I had several meetings with the teacher, psychologist and principal. All year no one saw anything! Bonnie Heller, the principal, is a weak person who bows down to the teachers and has nothing of substance to say.This school seems to have a ‘one teaching method fits all’ kind of attitude towards our special kids. Every person, including special needs people, has a different learning style. One way of teaching DOES NOT fit all.Since pulling my son out of Rosemary Kennedy, I have met many, many other families who pulled their children out of this school for similar reasons. Their children were coming home with unexplained bruises. I wouldn’t recommend this school to my worst enemy.
My son has attended this school for 6 years and Ive no complaints. Hes graduating this June and Ill miss everyone Ive met there.
Some teachers sound nice, but this school is rampant with negligent behavior from members of the staff. The students, whether there for having problems with or mental health issues are all treated as though they are in a prison/correctional setting. Excessive use of force to restrain students if an altercation arises leaving bruise marks. Inadequate or even borderline dangerously neglegent mediation between students and ability to diffuse situations leading to students down dangerous paths/bouts of depression, rage or even suicidal thoughts. This institution is not preparing these kids to integrate with the community, its treating them like prisoners because they have no faith in them and would rather prepare them for a correctional setting because they dont value the lives of these kids after they leave their care.
