While not for everyone, this charter school is a place of achievement. Youll miss not having a football team, but youll be challenged in so many other ways that it is well worth it. This is a school that takes learning seriously. There is a reason that they consistently outscore other schools throughout the state. Its very much like a traditional prep school without the sticker price.

Both of my children attended FA schools. My son started with the Franklin Academy schools from 1st grade, the year they were established and graduated in their first graduating class. He went on to earn a Bachelors degree at East Carolina University. My daughter also attended Franklin Academy schools, but for high school chose a more athletic environment and larger student body at Wakefield High School. I highly recommend Franklin Academy schools as an alternate to area public schools for the rigorous academics and all around care for its students. The staff is top notch, never had a complaint. Wether its the Arts, Athletics or academics your child most enjoys, you cant go wrong with FA schools!

FAHS is the epitome of an excellent learning opportunity. Sports programs, wonderful arts programs & technology & digital media programs that cannot be matched in the area. All 3 of my children thrived here. FAHS is based around direct instruction, a year round schedule & phenomenal teachers that go above and beyond their job duties. We loved their STEM based opportunities that helped my children be set up for their years in college. Now that my kids are graduated from college I realize how large of an impact FAHS made on their futures and successes along the way. Test scores soared. Of course there were challenges along the way but I can undoubtedly say all my children’s successes were because of FAHS pushing them to be the best they could be.

I attended FAHS for 4 years from freshman to senior year and graduated sucesfully like most, but to be honest this school isnt for everyone, and many of the instructors at this school are less than charming. (Main reason for the 2 stars)In terms of academics, FAHS is as good as any other charter school. However the school requires a senior thesis project amied at preparing students for college. I knew many students who werent interested in pursuing a 4 year degree or would rather have pursued their interests elsewhere but nevertheless, were made to participate in the senior project. The scoring and grading of this project had many complaints from a number of students and I believe it to have been graded inconsistently and incorrectly. The student body is somewhat segmented and divided, most students falling into a sports or music friend group and seldomly interacting with other students. For people who wish to make a variety of open-minded friends, this school is not the place.FAHS also enforces a moderate to strict dress code of polos and khaki pants and while this illiminates bullying and harassment based on ones clothing appearance, ultimately everyone looks depressing and monotonous wearing the same outfit every day. Many of the teachers in this school are great, but many of the great instructors are leaving, which is sad for the future of FAHS.For those who wish to become prestigious doctors or lawyers, care not about their social circle or outward appearance, are willing to give up countless hours through the week for begrudging homework and projects, and able to effectively manage their time, this school is a good choice. However for everyone else, I would recommend Raleigh Charter, which improves on everyone of these aspects for the most part.
