My son has been learning piano with Dr. Malan for more than 3 years. Dr. Malan is a passionate and highly skilled piano teacher. He not only teaches the piano skills, but also how to understand and appreciate music. My son has improved a lot since he started learning piano with him. Every time before Music level exam, he always spends extra time with my son and make sure he can put his best and pass the test. He is also a very funny and energetic person. You will never get bored during his class. All in all, he is the best piano teacher and we are lucky to have him teach my son.

Of all the piano teachers I have had the pleasure of serving as a piano technician Dr. Malans knowledge of the traditional piano repertoire is unsurpassed. What distinguishes him though is his humanity and enthusiasm. Where others see only music Dr. Malan sees the human heart and soul--the tragic, the comic, the enduring. This attribute in my opinion is what separates him from the assembly line of music teachers in Tallahassee. I have witnessed the process and the product over many years and recitals. Tallahassee is lucky to have him.

This is one of the best studios in the country!!! Hands down!!! Dr. Malan has an understanding of every musical genre a pianist could be involved in. I studied with him from Middle School through High school and he prepared me for college and beyond. I currently am a professional pianist and Music director in NYC. I couldnt have done this without the dedication and expertise of Dr. Malan.

I have known Dr. Malán and his work as a musician and a piano teacher for over twenty years. Dr. Malan’s exceptional abilities as a pianist and as an educator, his dynamic energetic personality, his unique character, his knowledge and experience, makes a combination that is hardly surpassed and highly distinguishes him from the rest. From what I know and I already hear from many parents who have or did have children studying with him, I convincingly and openly can say echoing many of his customers, that Dr. Malán is the best piano teacher in town, and his piano studio is the top option to get a serious, competitive, and well rounded music and piano instruction in Tallahassee, period.

My experience with Dr. Ruben Malan is the reason why I have continued into the FSU College of Music pursuing a degree in Choral Music Education, all the while continuing my piano training. When it comes to instructors, few match the wealth of knowledge that Dr. Malan possesses. He is extremely well-read in many different approaches to technique, and his attention to subtle nuance in musicality and style is nothing short of inspiring. He has proven his phenomenal teaching ability with all ages and all skill levels, and more importantly than anything, has the student’s best interest at heart. He is not content to simply teach notes. He will train his students to be musicians, in every sense of the word; he, by exposing his students to true art can have a true impact on their development, not only as artists, but as human beings. He teaches empathy, musical sensitivity, and discipline, attention to detail, pride in doing a job to the best of your ability, and love of the instrument. I would not, by any means, be the same person without his instruction, and even today, I am still so extremely grateful for his presence in my life. Thanks Dr. Malan for being my coach, mentor, and true friend.

I am an actress, singer and dancer living in Los Angeles. I took classes with Dr. Malan for about 5 years and my younger brother has been with him for 7 years. In my time with him Dr. Malan not only helped me grow as an artist but as a person. His passion for the arts is inspirational. His professionalism is impeccable. He helped me cultivate the artist inside of me and taught me the true power that lies within music and how we as artists have a gift of affecting others and making an impact on their lives. The piano is such a beautiful instrument that not only can make an impact mentally, but emotionally, and spiritually. Dr. Malan truly loves what he does and always strives to see his students improve. His piano technique is unmatchable and he works with all age ranges as well as all levels of experience. Dr. Malan will push you to where you need to go and will accept no less than your best! If you are looking for a quality and professionalism look no more. Dr. Malan embodies an instructor and a fellow artist that does not only teach but inspires others to explore art through music.

Dr. Malan is a highly skilled, well-learned pianist. He is an excellent performer and top teacher. He is able to relate to kids and teach them the proper techniques in piano playing. He is passionate about teaching his students so they reach their highest potentials. I have seen his students mature into great pianists. They have won numerous top awards in either local, regional, and state competition. One example is my daughter. She has learned from Dr. Malan from a kindergardner to a great artist. If you are serious about learning the piano with someone who is a high achiever, Dr. Malan is the teacher for you. I have recommended him to many.He is also a great performer! He is the best!Nadia

At a more than ripe age I started piano lessons with Dr. Malan. He almost immediately taught me where middle C could be found, and before my first lesson was over I could even find D. Pretty soon, thrillingly, I could tell the black keys from the white. From thence we went on to this and that, and before I knew it I had a touch of Chopin in my fingers. I could scacely believe it. What a thrill! And all, I assure you, to the credit of Dr. Malan, who with such good humor, patience, care, and respect for even my fumbly-fingers has opened an entire world to my reckoning. To have gained such an entry into the world of music he knows and loves so well has joyfully enlightened my elder age (only a year, now, short of 80!). That I write this in praise of Dr. Malan falls very short of the thanks I owe him, but at least it permits me the pleasure of acknowledging him as a brilliant pianist, and a wonderful teacher. Whether you already play or are just beginning, with Dr. Malan you will not go wrong. You will have some fun, as well: He may even show you a step or two of the Tango....at which he is also, of course, marvelous!P.S. And otherwise, by the way, if you are inclined to a bit of a party, and have a piano lurking about, you may even be able to delight your friends by negotiating with Dr. Malan to come play for you in your home. He has a charming ability not only to play selected pieces, but to describe their context and meaning in both an enlightening and entertainimg manner. He has done this for us a time or two, and our guests have unfailingly loved it.

My 9-yr old son has been taking lessons from Dr. Malan for the last 1 year or so. He had started learning piano about 2 years prior to starting with Malan, but has improved tremendously in the last 1 year under Dr. Malans guidance.Dr. Malan is very experienced in teaching piano and his teaching style includes a good amount of music theory along with playing, and he pays a remarkable amount of attention to the playing techniques like hand position, finger position, wrist movement, articulation.Dr. Malan was referred to me by one of my friend whose daughter has been Malan’s piano student for more than 4 years. I am really glad that we found Malan and what he is doing for my sons music skills is far beyond my expectations.
