I’m glad I found Excelsior for my daughter. They partnered with me at every turn to make this year a success for her. They are caring and capable. All praises and no complaints..recommended.

My son was in junior high when he had a great experience with the summer program at Excelsior Academy. Previously, he had struggled with the pressures of public middle school in Katy, but was able to find his confidence that helped to build his self-esteem with the help of caring teachers and leaders who invested personally in the lives of the students during his summer experience at Excelsior. If we had lived closer to the school, we would have placed our son in the regular academic school year program, but it was not convenient at the time. His experience at Excelsior was a personal one and my son continues to speak highly of the friends he met, the teachers, and of AJ who all demonstrated personal interest in his well-being and academic interests while at the school. I highly recommend Excelsior to anyone who desires a small group and differentiated learning environment.

Excelsior was lots of help towards helping my son with his disability. He learned more in one semester than he did in 5 years of public school. Excelsior not only helped him learn on all materials but also with being more social. It was the best decision I have ever made!!

I was stressed out during Winter 2014 looking for a school for my daughter. My daughter is 7 years old and formerly attended a school in HISD. The school said they could help her in special education. She was diagnosed with ADHD, had trouble with reading and the school said that she would benefit from a 1:1 setting with behavior modification. The school said that she was not at her academic level and moved her to a behavioral class that was only boys from ages 8 to 11. This was not a conducive environment and my daughter was doing worse; she was stressed out, not learning and remained behind. As a mother, I found Excelsior Academy and saw a difference in the first day of class. She was placed in a class where she felt like she belonged. My daughter is benefiting from individualized attention at Excelsior; the teacher and the staff show they care about their students. They also worked hard to get my daughter on grade level. My daughter is finally happy to go to school each morning. As a parent, I made the monetary and time sacrifice to help my daughter to put her in a private school. It is worth the drive from central Houston to Sugar Land. The tuition is worth every penny.

I had looked into Excelsior back when it first started, deciding against it, only because there were only two students and one teacher. My son needed a little more socialization, as we had home-schooled throughout most of his school years, as he was very non-compliant in public school. We went to another school for a couple of years, then looked back at Excelsior, who had grown to around 10 students and 2 teachers. I moved him there. Since moving him, my son has really taken off in his education. He works on IXL at his own pace, and also at home, and he does classwork at school. His handwriting has greatly improved in the past year. He actually wants to go to school now, and in the 7th grade, was testing into the 9th grade. His teachers are very attentive to his special needs and know how to handle him. The school has gone through several teachers since we have been here, but I see that as the director has very high expectations of his staff, and promptly removes them if they do not work out. He has very high aspirations for this school, and is well on his way to making Excelsior a fun place of childrens education. He tries various ideas to motivate the children, and thats not easy. Each child has a different high value treat for which he/she will work very hard to obtain. Each child is placed into his/her own grade, but works at his own pace, and is also challenged by his teachers to come up to their grade level and beyond. Right now, they have several rooms rented at the Fame Well Montessori School, and space rented at a Montessori School in Katy, if needed, but as the school grows, I see them expanding into their own building, which would be great for the image of the school. Make no mistake about the image of the school, though. This school has been the best thing that has happened to my son since pre-school, and I highly recommend any person who is sick of the boxed treatment of their child in public school to give Excelsior a try.6/3/18My son has been going to Excelsior Academy for 2 years now. He just graduated and will be moving to a high school, but I wanted to reflect on his 2 years there. Excelsior has been the best move I have ever made for him. It was rough at first because of some change in staff and the getting used to a classroom with all ages, but now the staff is a perfect balance, and he eventually adjusted with the help of the teachers and the administrator. The whole “flavor” of the school is very different from public school, but from his testing scores, this school obviously works well. When you walk in, the students are in various forms of study, or they are on the playground interacting with each other, but whatever they are doing, it is much more relaxed and they are a family. There are several forms of disability in the classroom, and the teachers work very well with the students to make the classroom mesh together. The school’s attitude is based on acceptance and approval of and by all the students and teachers. There are more field trips than in a public school, and they work once a month in a local church’s garden who provides food to the shelters. It helps the students to understand service to their fellow human. It was a great experience for my son. If you can get over the “public school” image and give Excelsior a try, I think you will find your child will blossom, and he or she will eventually become much more settled at home. I know mine did and he was severe adhd.

This school is NOT what it claims to be. My son has attended this school since fall 2015. Since he has been there, we have seen 3 principles and 5 teachers leave. I will also add that there have not been any Special Education Certified teachers that are employed there, as the director has stated on his website. In fact, the only certified teacher that is currently listed, is actually a substitute teacher, that works for Fort Bend ISD. The other teachers are not actually teachers at all. I did extensive research and background searches, on each person that came through, since my son was exposed to a large teacher turn over, and it had me very concerned. I also dissected the Excelsior Academy website, to find lie after lie. One of the most obvious lies, being TWO locations...There is only ONE location, which is only two small, dirty, classrooms, which the director leases from the Fame Well Montessori on Settlers Way. The other Katy location is nonexistent (But is another Montessori location, owned by the same owners of Fame Well) and is listed on the Excelsior website, to fluff the size of this establishment. No business is conducted there, regarding Excelsior Academy. There is no special or even set Curriculum, much less one that is “accredited curriculum”, for any public or private institution. The director has no background in teaching at all, much less, kids with special needs or learning differences. The children, all of (about 10 max total) are not progressing, as myself, and other parents have learned this year. I have also been made aware that the “director” is attempting to black list us, and other families from other Alternative schools! We have also learned that the IOWA test, that was supposed to have been given in the beginning of May, has NEVER been turned into the testing center to be graded, which makes me wonder why the “director” has been sending us emails, that the testing center is running behind??? It is quite possible that he is doctoring the results before he sends them in, to make it look as though, children are preforming at a higher level than they actually are. Last year’s test showed my son excelling in math, yet after evaluation from other institutions, he is indeed at third grade level, in math. He is going to 5th grade! I have also learned that I was labeled a “problem parent” when I began to ask questions about the odd and suspicious practices, I was seeing from the staff. I also find it very strange and inappropriate that the “director” requests children to stay after school, to play video games in his office! When I declined this for my son, I was pressured from the “director and teachers” to allow me to leave my son after school, to play games with the “director” “This would be good for my son socially” is what they told my husband and I. VERY INAPPROPRIATE and DISTURBING BEHAVIOR!The director charges everyone different rates for tuition, and makes the majority sign a 12-month contract. The children are allowed to play video games (many inappropriate such as Call of Duty) during learning time, and what I have gathered from my son and other children there, is that this what they had been doing for the last 2 months of school! This is just simply NOT A REAL SCHOOL. There are so many disturbing issues with this school, there are simply too many to list! The owner has found a niche, taking advantage of desperate parents with children falling beneath the cracks in the public-school system. Do NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE. This is just high priced babysitting. Your kids will be two years behind like my son and you will be out $20,000. Look at other alternative schools like Knile, Briarwood, or the Joy School. They cost more but your child will be in a clean environment and actually learning!
