This is the best BJJ/ Muay Thai gym I have ever been to. The staff are professional, patient, and very reasonable. I tore a pec muscle and can no longer train until after surgery/ recovery, they communicated well with me in sorting everything out. I wish I didnt have to move but I will continue to train at Gracie Barra until I can train no longer. Thank you Gracie Barra at the Woodlands Staff.

I joined here 2 weeks ago to change my life and my habits. After my mom passed away from cancer I started drinking heavily and smoking 2 packs a day. I quit drinking and smoking completely last month and began working out again. I wanted to find a MMA gym and start training so I came here to sign up. I cant say enough great things about how good my experience has been. Coach Alex Morono is outstanding at what he does and he truly cares about helping you advance. The other coaches are amazing as well. I have learned alot in 2 weeks. If your new to BJJ or MMA like I am this place is for you. The advanced guys on your team take pride in helping you learn and teaching you techniques. Im happy I walked in the front doors of this place and signed up. Im proud to be here. Never give up, your brightest day might be tomorrow. Godspeed

My teens have been attending Jiu Jitsu classes for over 2 years now and they love it. The classes are well organized yet fun with games at the end. Ive noticed that both of my sons display greater self-confidence after training in jiu jitsu. And its great physical exercise for them, this is where they learned how to do cartwheels.

An exceptional place with wonderful coaches. My kids have been working at this Gym for over a year now. No doubt that Janice and Alex (owners) know what theyre doing. They have also surrounded my kids with the best coaching minds. They have also accepted them into their BJJ family. It isnt just BJJ here, it is a family of Jiu-Jitsu professionals teaching one another not only how to be good at BJJ, but how to be good at life. Highly recommended...

My son (4y) just started about 3 weeks ago. They are amazing with the kids and really do a great job teaching them and enforcing attentiveness. It is his first sport/activity to participate in and I was nervous at first but everyone there is so friendly and knowledgeable. I think it is going to be a great year!

I highly recommend Gracie Barra the Woodlands because of coach Alex Morono. He’s tough but fair. He’s very observant of each student and give actionable feedback during each class. His encouragement and specific feedback motivates the students because it’s usually very specific to them. When the students works hard, he comments them right away. The class is very well structured when coach Alex Morono is on the mat.No other coach there comes close to being as effective at teaching the kid class.

The greatest martial arts gym with the best instructors / professional mma fighters. Our family is here almost every day. We are very lucky to have this place in The Woodlands! Highly recommended!

Wonderful staff! Wonderful discipline and training that the kids receive. Im so happy that my daughter attends this Gracie Barra location. She enjoys herself each time shes there and is doing very well in the classes too. Id recommend this to every parent with a little girl. It is highly important that our daughters learn to defend themselves and gain the self-confidence to stand up for themselves in rough times. I cant say enough good things about this place!

Joined the gym about a year ago when I was going through a rough time in my life. It turned out to be the best thing Ive done for myself in decades. The coaches, staff, and other athletes welcomed me like a family. I can only speak first hand about the Muay Thai/Kickboxing program but from seeing the BJJ classes, it is a first rate school for both. Alex, Matt, Jake, Carlos, and Joel are not only experts in training competitors but LOVE what they do. They live and breath mixed martial arts. I look forward to showing up to train and wish I had time to go more often. Check this place out you wont regret it.

My (almost) 11 y/o son has been training here for just shy of 2 years now. We are uniformly pleased with every major aspect of the program. Coaching and culture define any serious sports program, and the coaches here consistently demonstrate maturity, balance and genuine respect for others (i.e. they care about the students). Theres ample bandwidth to accommodate those who want to train intensely, compete, etc., and those who prefer to push themselves more moderately. Egos and foul mouths seem to get exercised somewhere else - a great culture, especially given how many serious fighters train and teach here.

Good vs. great coach.Coach Alex Morono is amazing at teaching Kid BJJ. I take my son here 2-3 times a week for a few months now and heres a few reasons why Alex is a great coach.1. Alex knows all the kids in class by name (30-40 kids!). Its no accident, he clearly put in a lot of effort to do this.2. He gives immediate and meaningful feedback to the kids. He provide positive reinforcement to the kids by name for specific things during training. He can do this because he observe all the students very closely. This is also why he is great at pairing kids at similar level during the king of the hill practice.3. Tough but fair. Its a huge class with lots of kids but Alex and the other coaches did a fantastic job at redirecting their energy and focus. The expectation they set for the students are very clear. On the days when Alex is not teaching, I definitely feel like my son isnt learning as much. This is my experience for the Kid BJJ program. Ive actually never spoken to Alex nor attend their other programs. Im just a dad wanting the best his son and putting this out there in case it helps anyone decides.Good luck

Lots of knowledge on BJJ with the staff but not a lot of knowledge on how to handle a large group of children. If your child is new expect them to be very overlooked unless you are friends with a professor. We had a horrible experience with my son here and there were two boys that are close to a professor who bullied him unmercifully during class including saying TO the professor(who did nothing) that they were going to beat him up and the one boy actually hit my son in the face with his fist. They are 4. A bit much. At one point that boy and his brother who was a head taller than my son started to ping pong my son between them as another boy laughed. All 3 went on to receive a stripe at the end of class(their first apparently where they were welcome in a way my son was not) as my son bled. It ruined BJJ for him as there were no professors to help and look after the kids even after I made them aware of the threats at the beginning of class where I was laughed at over them and told the boy threatening others is only 4. So is my son but he is more disciplined than to act that way. It was horrible especially for the price. They bring shame to the GB name and dont seem very familiar with their own code of conduct. Hard to tell your child youre supposed to wrestle around and be a little rough then they are being bullied and beaten up right on the mats and nobody says anything so he thinks he should just take it. We never had an issue in any other sports he has done from soccer to gymnastics or his fitness classes. So disappointed. Save your time and go somewhere that sees all children equally!

Ok you want a unbiased review? Here’s mine. Gracie Barra The Woodlands hands down has very compassionate Coaches. They have structured technique, discipline and extreme knowledge about the sport. We’ve been members for a few months now and my children are in Muay Thai and BJJ. They LOVE it. I believe some of these negative reviews are completely unfair. First off children are going to do things that are the silliest...they are children. Although my children have not experienced bullying here on the mats I’m not one to rule it out but I can and assure anyone that it will be dealt with accordingly and isn’t tolerated. There’s been several cases where coaches are instructing and are constantly explaining how to deal with a bully. GB coaches do not reward Bad behavior on or off the mats. These children earn each and every stripe and they work extremely hard for them.We are like a big family at GB The woodlands and I support the coaches because they’ve illuminated both of my children’s confidence from the shadows. These coaches deserve all the praise, their efforts and compassion in what they do is greater than 5 stars. The adult class is pretty intense (all savages lol) it’s something you can learn and take with you for the rest of your lives...and they are like a group of big brothers and sisters who love training and respect one another. People please don’t let a negative review sway you from trying this place out. It’s worth your right learning how to defend yourself.:)

Very professional yet friendly environment, for all ages, skills and experiences. Kids classes are amazing, with strong focus on discipline, technique and respect. Kids and adults do extremely well in competitions. For adults, BJJ is high-level too, there are judo, wrestling, muay thai and MMA classes, all top level as well. Head coah is an UFC fighter (Alex Morono), who teaches personally all ages, on a daily basis.

Classes arent that individual, meaning its one big group exercise. If thats your cup of tea, then this place will be good for you. Coaches are eh, same with the more senior members. The instructors show you a move, then you spend the next 30 minutes rolling.Price: not bad, its lower than krav maga on 45, but they tell you that its a monthly payment that DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY RENEW . 2 months later, Im still being charged even though I never signed up for any month besides december.

If youre looking for a place to workout try Gracie Barra, The Woodlands. The first time I walked in, I was welcomed like an old friend, and given the opportunity to check out the gym, ask twenty questions, and even try a class free of charge. The workouts push your limits, but after only 10 workouts, between the cagefighting crossfit and kickboxing taught by fellow fighters of the gym, I dropped 2 dress sizes. Like I said the workouts will push you, but the trainers/instructors will meet you where youre at and help you excel to your personal best. Anoher perk are the small class sizes and individual attention youre able to receive by the instructors during your time there. Try Gracie Barra, The Woodlands, where they treat you like family.

Come for the training, stay for the family atmosphere! Look no further if you want to get in the best shape of your life, learn to defend yourself no matter what age/size you are, make the best and most trustworthy friends, and have fun while doing it! This is why I train here, and invite you to as well. Some gyms portray a muscle-head, egotistical, atmosphere...but not here. This gym has a great mix between super-positive and energetic to very cool and laid back personalities, and it makes training so much fun. The gym offers about every kind of class youd want, from (of course) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, to Muay Thai kickboxing, to cardio classes and crossfit, as well as many levels of kids/teens classes. My advice for anyone who is on the fence about starting up, is not to wait. Theres only one way to know if youll like it, so come in and try a class. Its free, no obligations, and theres no hazing. Ill bet you look back and wish you wouldve started sooner. Believe me, after many years its my only regret!
