After reading reviews I was skeptical. My child is rounding the curve to completing kindergarten and I feel its my duty to share my experience. Starting with my main concern, I was worried that she wouldnt be challenged. They dont have time for naps, as I so fondly remember in my youth. They do spelling tests, and memorize poems, (some of them are quite deep). They learn Singapore math to prepare them to think algabreically, geography and history, reading on their own, components of a story, handwriting. They have optional computer lessons like games that they can do at home, daily at home reading assignments. They have art and music. My daughter can tell me about classical pieces. She is able to exercise 3 times a day: 2 recesses and PE. She likes the food and maintains a healthy weight. The artwork in the halls are gorgeous replicas of works found in places like the Louvre in Paris. They have so many interests to explore. They have taken her farther than I could have. Her teachers are encouraging, gentle, fair, and seem to be up to date with modern parenting books. They practice respect and dignity in their class. I want to sincerely thank Ms. Westbrook, Ms. Muñoz, and all the kindergarten teachers that have been a part of her life, and all the staff for being a part of this amazing community. Im sure I also speak for many other parents when I say I noticed your efforts. Thank you for your devotion, love, knowledge, and care in your methods.

If you are thinking about sending your children to this school, please do your research. While I cannot go into much detail at the moment, what I can say is that I have recently retained an attorney, and will be holding this school responsible for the injustices perpetrated against my children. Do not send your children here. If they already attend, keep a closer eye on what is going on. Sickening.

I am completely satisfied with the education my daughter is receiving from this school. All her teachers have been amazing. We are not in the inner circle like it has been addressed in the reviews, but we have still had a great experience. I would consider myself kind of an outsider when it comes to the involvement of the school, but my daughter is still doing so well at Founders regardless of my involvement. With that being said, I do appreciate and love how much all the parents come together and help out. It is very much appreciated and I love em for it! Thanks to all of you that help to make this school greater every year!

Founders doesnt just teach reading/writing/arithmetic. They teach about responsible citizenship, values, work ethic, discipline in studies-- and there is a very strong emphasis on social studies and world culture. Very excellent education, starting even in Kindergarten. No frills education but they have excellent resources where they are needed. My son struggled when he started last year but he learned that hard work pays off, and he ended the year on the Headmasters List. We love this school and are so happy we took a leap of faith in enrolling our two children here.

I have written this review over and over in my head since pulling my child in Feb’ 18.The first year he attended was fantastic. His third grade teacher set the bar of what a teacher should be.The second year failed in comparison. His teacher refused to communicate in an appropriate amount of time, often times taking a month to respond. My son was having issues specifically in math and she never offered tutoring. I found out later from the assistant headmaster that she does a group tutoring session every morning and he wasn’t sure why she never offered it to us. She was supposed to reach out and contact us and went 10 weeks before I said something to the headmaster. During those 10 wks I hired a private tutoring to help my son. My son ended up failing math that semester and when I went to the head master and begged for help for my son he was condescending and ultimately opted to change my son’s grade to a passing grade instead of helping him.The nurse at this school is wreckless and dangerous. She didn’t follow an asthma action plan and landed a kid in the hospital for a week. My son had an allergic reaction playing in the back field while at school. Instead of calling me like he begged her to she applied calamine lotion to his skin even when he said no and told her he couldn’t have that because of his sensitive skin and to call me. My son was 9 and old enough to advocate for himself and she dismissed him. He also dislocated his knee in PE while at school and she didn’t realize he was injured (even though he was crying) and had him walk on it for nearly 3 hrs before calling me. Other parents have brought up broken bones that she missed and much much more. The nurse was never even disciplined. The school has a clique-type atmosphere among the parents and once you complain or bring anything up the pretty much blacklist you and tell you to leave.I would not recommend this school and urge you to look past all the “positive” reviews which are mostly written by the school’s inner circle.

We started with Founders the first year the opened (2016-2017 school year). The curriculum follows the tried and true classical model which can take some getting used to for many who transfer from a traditional public school. They also don’t just focus on academics, instead teaching the whole student and building character in the process. The first year we felt a little out of the loop and didn’t know anyone, but in our second year I started volunteering my time (there are TONS of opportunities to volunteer) and attending all events; I got to know more parents and teachers and see how things work on a daily basis. If you want to be involved, volunteering is the way to do it! Also, I got to witness first hand how amazing our students are!! The middle school teachers eat lunch with the students and when lunch is over, they take turns working together to clean up! And the character-building lessons don’t just start in middle school; they begin laying the foundation in kindergarten. For the 2018-2019 Founders will be k through 9th, adding a grade each year until they are k-12. The upper school building is being built now in order to accommodate the expanding grades. The application process starts sometime in January for the upcoming year. A lottery is held to randomly select students to fill seats. All grades end up with a waiting list after this lottery takes place. Existing students do not have to apply for the lottery as they simply re-enroll each December to hold a seat. If you are a fan of the classical method of education and live in the area; I highly recommend Founders.

My wife was talking to a lady on the phone to see the process for our kids because only one child got Accepted out of 4 children. Well talking to her she (the staff) was trying to talk to somebody else in the office. Very rude staff. My children will not be going here after all. If she didn’t like her job maybe she should find a new one!

Updated review:Classical education with a modern outlook. Challenging for the brighter child. Awaiting to see if they can adjust to those that excel and that seek higher challenges. First 3 years with 2 kids have gone well. We have come from public and private schools and I feel we are more objective as a result.Average students will struggle without extra study. Added special needs learning track has improved but does lack the full resources of school districts. They work with Hillsdale College on curriculum. High School level Latin in grades 7 to 9; quite challenging. Math track has full calculus by 12th grade. Literature studies 1 to 2 years ahead of most schools.Change in headmaster January 2019 with Mr. Ortiz. As such I would ignore less recent reviews as school has improved on all fronts. Endeavoring to bring joy and excellence daily; and it shows.Sports have been added but hoping to see separate middle school and high school teams. Volleyball, flag football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball and cross country teams with almost universal success (district, regional and state rankings).Addressing some negative reviews:1. Racism or bias has NEVER been tolerated.2. I do agree some teachers have fallen below their tough standards but they also dont last as a result.3. Accusations of parent clicks are silly. Children are measured by their individual merits including character and parents have no influence.4. Lawnmower and helicopter parents will struggle here. You may get a tough teacher just like anywhere else. No teacher is perfect.5. Discipline problems are addressed quickly. What might be tolerated elsewhere, wont be here. Demerits lead to lunch detentions. Suspensions can lead to expulsions as disrespect, bullying and gross misconduct have zero tolerance.6. Admission is based on random lottery overseen by state. While getting one child in does increase odds of the rest getting in, each class has a cap and an empty slot must exist for each child.
