I have been a student at South University, Savannah, since October 2013. I will graduate in June 2016, and I have had the most pleasurable experience here. To read all of the negative reviews shocks me. From my first conversation with an admissions rep, I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. The professors have always been easily accessible and willing to answer any questions or concerns that Ive had. I have had no problem talking to my Financial Aid officer, Adviser, or the Registrars Office. There have been times that I did have to leave a message or send them an e-mail, but they always returned my phone call within a decent amount of time. And if it was an emergency, I went straight to their office and was able to meet with someone. I have met some wonderful classmates, as well as faculty and staff, who will always been connections in my future career. I would, and already do, recommend this school to others. Im not sure why others have had such a horrible experience. But I recommend having a little patience and putting forth an effort without expecting a hand out. I love South University and everyone at this campus! And will possibly enrolling in the MBA program this summer.

I enrolled in Souths online Nurse Practitioner program April 2018. I along with my co-workers and now fellow classmates I meet at clinical sites share the same stories of how we are treated so poorly. My personal experiences have been anywhere from their financial aid department holding my stipend for months and each time coming up with a different reason for them not releasing it. The most current was they have policies and procedures that state they can hold my stipend for months. Well that is a new one, the time prior was because they lost it and did not know how to get it back to me until I threatened to call the OIG and Department of Education, miraculously my money was deposited the next day. Keep in mind South was put on probation in 2017 for predatory loans. The professors just make up whatever they want to do, they will release a rubric then tell you they failed you not based off the rubric but it just was not what they wanted. They leave you unable to fix any issues because when you email them and ask what you can do to make sure your next assignment is what they want, they do not respond. My most recent professor failed my discussion post not because of the quality of work but because she said she did not like the fact I turned it in early. She stated I wont accept any work you do early . Well this was not discussed in any of the course announcements, she never stated that in the syllabus, and it is not a South University policy that students who turn work in early will receive failing grades. I have made multiple attempts to reach out to South and their academic and student affairs. I have told them of these issues and still nothing is done. It seems South is back to its predatory loan scam of take their money and if you cant fail them based off their quality of work and ability to stay on schedule, then just make stuff up to fail them.

No matter what school you go to, school is what you make it. Lets be honest, every school is in the business of educating their student and making money. At the end of the day, it is how bad you want to get your education. As far as South University, I have really enjoyed the experience. The Admission Rep, Finance Counselor, and Academic Counselor have all been great. I have been proactive and when you call, they will respond within the same business day. One thing I did like is my Professor will call you by phone. He checked up on me and see if I had additional questions about the course. I submitted an assignment 3 days earlier. He even gave me the opportunity to allow me to resubmit my assignment before he starts to grade it. Everyone has been great and very responsive. So, far I have had no problems. No professor has never reached out to me other staff members have not reached out to me as much South University staff have. College I believe is about being self sufficient and taking responsibility for yourself. No matter what school you go to, college is a true investment and you utilize your investment, it is going to be up to you. As far as South University, its a great school and the staff is great.

Im a current student. Ive been in 6 months on the 23rd. I have to agree with the others. I feel completely tricked into going. My admissions rep was my buddy in the beginning. He called all the time, and I talked to him as if he was one of my rounds (friend). After I enrolled, I noticed the calls stopped coming. He claimed, I didnt need him due to me excelling in my classes. True, I didnt need him, but dude, you abandoned me. My academic counselor left to pursue his life long dream job (dont blame him). I along with Im sure the rest of my peers, didnt find out until the morning he left via an email from him. I have no complaints about my finance counselor. Hes the best, by far. True, the school has an abundance of shortcomings, but my finance counselor is amazing. Its sad to feel that way about education, but its the true. They make you feel that way. I tell my family all the time, that I want to drop out. Then I wouldnt be setting a good example for anyone, most importantly my future children. Plus, Ill be in debt either way it go. I better get my damn degree, if they know like I know. For profit my ass. I will happily profit from that fat ass lawsuit, Ill slap on their asses, and you can bet that! Everything isnt always what it seems.

I signed up in August 2013. South University is great school. You cant believe everything that you hear, you have to see and live the experience for yourself. When I signed up last year, they have discuss everything in detail to what textbooks will be required for your course. They also will work with you, ask you how your classes are doing and make sure that your needs are met. And if you have any questions, please give them a call or send an email they will work with you to make sure that everything is taken care of. I hear a lot of people say that they are horrible, but the truth is they are not. It depends on who you are working with that give you the overall experience, not the whole student and faculty body. The truth is I am so glad and excited that I have chosen this school because they get you where you need to be in your field of study and the job that you are looking for. I recently graduated from SU and it was the best experience of my life. I have met great people, developing friendships and most of all I am now an South University Graduate!!! I would recommend more people who are going back to school working on their degrees to South U.

South University is an amazing school that is built for adults and designed to provide us with limitless potential. I can honestly see this University opening a Osteopathic Medical School one day. They develop students in such a manner that they would have an amazing pool of applicants for the first class. If you are considering post-secondary education, you should highly consider South University. I dont know how they do it, but they recruit and retain some of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure to learn from.

One of the worst schools in the area. The only thing good about this school is the registrar Tasha Richardson she is a kind person and will go above and beyond to help students and Dr. FOSTER the head of general education she really cares and pushes the students..I was permanently dismissed from this school because I had to withdraw due to multiple deaths in my family. Even after providing documents and filling out the appeal and providing sufficient proof it wasnt an excusable reason. They took my military benefits and then reported to the VA I had withdrew so they are not only a poor ethical school but common thieves as well. Beware of this school!!!

Terrible University. I have attended a number of universities both as a student and an employee. For those of you who are aware of the horrible track record for the Art Institute schools, it will not surprise you that South University is owned by the same company. South University is one of many universities owned by a company that operates out of Pennsylvania. Their primary focus is enrolling students and taking their money, just like any other business. I spoke personally to the head of admissions for South University online. The first problem is that he did not even work at South University. He he (along with the other South University online admissions reps) works in PA, and has no physical contact with the school. He was basically useless. He could not answer any of the questions I had about student population, job placement, and graduation rate. After researching it for myself, I found out that most of those areas are awful. Truly a poor quality school looking to take advantage of students. Pass on this university.

I asked about tuition costs for their online programs because nowhere on their website or their college catalog are there any sections about tuition costs for any program whatsoever. I chatted with someone via their website & they told me that someone would have to contact me to tell me the costs. This is the first university ive ever seen that does not have tuition costs listed on their website or catalog. If theyre not going to list it on their site or make it difficult to obtain then im pretty sure its ridiculously expensive. I thought South U became a non-profit university? It sure doesnt act like one..Edit: So they finally put tuition costs in their online catalog for public viewing & I’m pretty surprised at how affordable most of their online masters programs are. Why wouldn’t you want those rare affordable degree costs advertised on your website?! I’m now including South to grad schools I will be applying to! 😄

Enjoyed it for a minute, even got on dean list a couple times. I made great grades until a couple classes before my real core classes. The cost of tuition was my biggest pressure I had to take out private loans and other loans to cover and still owed money for the quarter. I wanted that PTA too but couldnt focus like I needed to. Once you retake a class you have to pass with a 95 or better after that no more retakes and your done. My initial admission with a Ms. Perez seem promising and hopeful but a little pressuring, I mean of course I want a career I can be proud of and do something I like and get paid well to do it. She made it seem like it wouldnt be so costly but that change when I found out they dont except federal aid. The instructors were great and Dr. Winkler did not play no games.Wish I could give it another try but now I have to take what I can get to pay these student loans with no degree 😣😞😳

I attended this institution from fall 2015-late spring 2017; which ends up being about 20 months. I owe this institution, who (might I add, had me in classes not pertaining to my degree on several occasions and could never give me straight forward answers as to why such classes were necessary. I switched majors halfway through and was told there was a slight increase in cost vs. length of the course since some classes had to be added in that were not previously necessary. I was never quoted exactly what the cost would be during my time there/per semester. I felt like I was continuously getting the run around, and I started having some issues reaching my student coordinator/admissions counselor; so I wound up dropping out of South University and even after making several phone calls regarding further explanation to the issues I had with how they billed my FAFSA account but of course never got answers, just unending harassing phone calls, incessant emails about re-enrollment at South University. My loans are now with Navient, and I had them break down what was billed to my FAFSA during my time at South (Late 2015-Mid 2017) and it was given to me as follows:Spring 2016: $3,000Fall 2016: $4,100.30Spring 2017: $13,293.72Fall 2017: $22, 349.82 (***BILLED AFTER I HAD ALREADY DROPPED OUT! Totaling: $42,743.82) *Such a TREMENDOUS increase in previous FAFSA funding. The cherry on top? I obtained an Associates Degree in 2015 with a private institution-and walked away owing them: $24,655.11.So please, tell me how you, as an institution expect me (and my husband who has AN ABUNDANCE of STUDENT LOAN DEBT FROM SOUTH UNIVERSITY and also did not obtain a degree (estimated: $60,000+) THANKS TO SOUTH UNIVERSITY) to pay this insane amount of fraudulent debt?!The answer is simple: Its going to litigation, and you all will be sued for eradication of these debts and pain and suffering for the student loan repayments we have already made IN ADDITION to the pain and suffering of the destruction to our credit. I recommend you contact me at YOUR VERY EARLIEST convenience.

Great school. Great online program. I must say that at first, the sales person was very good at convincing me to sign up. It was not a good time for me to start school but she was too good. She was kinda pushy and persistent but I am sooooo thankful she did. I kept putting off start school again for years. Now im in a doing very well with As and Bs. I get all my calls returned and changes to my program has not been a problem. Even when I am late with my assignments, I explained the reason(the true reasons) to my professor and he or she gives me a break. It is very fast paced by doable. Once you keep up with your assignments, you will do well. You learn a lot in a short space of time. I am going in my 3rd year and its great so far. The only thing I hate is when you post an assignment, you are required to critique 2 other classmates work and write a response. I really just want to hand in my stuff and keep it moving; Im not there to make friends but those are the rules. My financial adviser worked with me to pay was I could afford every month.I see some reviews saying that at first their academic adviser would call them every week and after a while nothing. Mine called me every week for the first year and it got less and less in year two. But thats fine. I don;t expect him to hold my hand for all 4 years. When I needed him again, I called, left a voice mail message and he called me back the next day. Seems normal to me.So thats it. I would recommend this school to my friends and have.

If I could give this institution 0 stars, I absolutely would. After obtaining my MSN and FNP and graduating in November, taking boards in December and successfully passing, I am still unable to begin employment. I have been unable to contact or speak with anyone at this institution who can provide ANY help as to why my request for a certified letter from the program director has yet to be delivered to the board of nursing in my state. My academic coordinator was handling this request for me and ensured that the letter would be delivered in 14 days. She states that the letter has been sent to the board, however, my board of nursing is yet to receive it. She is still unable to tell me when the actual letter was sent! If the registrar sends the letter-- why cant they provide a time stamp? The board of nursing has even made special accommodations as to accepting this in an email. STILL-- no letter and no response from the program director. I am NOT the first student who has had difficulty obtaining documentation from the school. This document is required by my state to begin employment as a NP. Here I sit, graduated and board certified, unable to begin employment. After spending $60,000+ on an education at this institution, one would think that this request would not be difficult to fulfill. As a professional, deadlines are required to be successful in the workplace. Deadlines were required of me as a student to include financial obligations to the school and obviously deadlines were required throughout the program in my online courses to complete course work and graduate. In the two years I attended this institution, I may have had TWO professors who were able to form a grammatically correct sentence. I regret every penny I spent on my education at South University and I am extremely disappointed in their ability to assist their students with their needs PRE and POST graduation. Oh, if you cannot find a number to call to get through to a real person, try the recruiting line. They are happy to answer your phone call to take your money. Stay away from this institution!

I wouldnt even give this school a fair review thats how bad I feel about it. The cost of this school would make you feel as if youre attending the Harvard of online schools. The second thing that bugged me about this school was I could never get the same information from two different people. There was no consistency with any information that I got from financial counselors and academic counselors; and then when I withdrew from school, I was hit with a notice of collections out of nowhere. I asked the financial advisor about it and I was told that when you withdraw it backdates to the beginning of your last class. Very misleading and unprofessional. Dont waste your financial aid with this school. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!!

DO NOT go to this school !!! I was here for a year and had a HORRIBLE experience. There are some good people at this school but the rest of the people are HORRIBLE !!! Here is my testimony:At first, i was okay with going to South University. My intent was to transfer once I had enough credits to do so . BIGGEST MISTAKE. I had a teacher who RARELY showed up to her own class. I had a 45 minutes commute to this school everyday and this teacher was my only class on certain days. I would drive 45 minutes and she wasnt even there ! Didnt even care to email us or anything!I had to eventually switch my courses to online. Another big mistake. All the online courses are only 5 weeks. That was fine with me . However, I was taking a course that had NO TEACHER for 3 weeks. They didnt tell us about this or anything!!!Then there were time where I had to get in contact with FA and couldnt reach anybody through email or phone !!!!!!! I was contacting my FA Advisor for weeks before I gave up. So i had to go through 3 people to get to my assigned FA Advisor and STILL DIDNT GET MY PROBLEM SOLVED BECAUSE THIS PERSON STILL WOULDNT ANSWER ME !!!!! I have random balances on my account that i was told was being taken care of by my aid that turns out was not being taken care of at all!DO NOT GO TO THIS HORRIBLE SCHOOL !!! THEY ARE LIARS. THEY WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. THEY DONT ANSWER YOUR CALLS < EMAILS, OR CRIES FOR HELP. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! FIND ANOTHER UNIVERSITY!

I decided to take a few doctoral level classes at South University, as a non-degree seeker. My unique situation made entering this institution an interesting process, but I ended up participating in an awesome online class with an excellent DMIN Professor, Dr. Troy Allan. I received consistent and great assistance from Maurice Watson (Academic Representative), Justin Borkowski (Academic Representative), Dwayne Brunson (Student Finance Counselor) and Luke Strejcek (Student Finance Counselor). I wish that I could say the same about my Academic Counselor, Katelyn Plowcha. She provided me with bad information and her guidance led to disappointment, as well as frustration. When this was brought to her attention, she was not apologetic or even concerned. I am glad that I already have a Ph.D. (Ministry Concentration) from Dallas Baptist University and was not seeking to get a degree from South. After my final conversation with Ms. Plowcha, I decided that I would look to another institution for continuing education or post-doctoral work.

So I am in the nursing program at south university columbia. I love this school when it comes to academics and teachers. However, it is the 10th week which is the last week of class and I have yet to receive my life scholarship money. I do not work so I use this money to pay rent and it is at the end of the quarter and I still have not received anything. I dont understand why it takes so long because when I was at USC I got my stipend before I even started school. I dont know what the problem is but there has got to be something this school so that students are waiting until the quarter is over to receive money especially if you dont work and that stipend is suppose to go toward rent!!!!!!!!! Besides the financial aid this school is great but I will not give this school 5 stars until the financial aid get their stuff together!

Every month and every semester for the past 2 1/2 years, the financial department has not completed all the requirements in order for me to receive the full benefits of my GIBill, pell grants, and when they do sort out the issues, I lose more money. I have had to physically go in and speak with financial aid on a regular basis to retrieve what is owed to me. The classes are constantly scheduled so you do not get your full BAH from your GIBill. My tuition has more than doubled since I first began classes here, I am constantly losing more money because of added expenses that were not present in previous semesters, they are overlapping classes in such a way that it is overloading the students, and so much more. I feel trapped within my current program due to their methods, and am very unhappy. Fortunately, the on campus professors are great teachers and understand the pressures of work and family. They are more than reasonable with their methods of teaching and their requirements. I dont feel that way about many of the online teachers due to their unreasonable work load. It is to expensive to go here even with the G.I.Bill and their supposed Military Scholorship. It is though all they care about is you paying them. I have had enough of the run around that I have been given and when they are finally paid off in the amount that they say that I owe which is incorrect. I will be attending a different University that I know will care about my future success rather than lining their pockets. I would not recommend this school to anyone, even though the classes and professors are very good.
