My grade 5 son started Afficient study since Jan 2021. He was able to finish grade 5 & 6 courses within 3 months and is now on grade 7 study. I could tell that he was much more confident about his math after first three-month study and he was the top 20th student in most recent Caribou Math contest in G5&6 group in his school (he was 62nd in his first Caribou contest which he took last October). I saw there were some self-study challenges for him at the beginning of his Afficient study, but not anymore now. I am glad he could learn something more than just math in Afficient!

Very nice, Im 5th grade moving on the 6th and im almost doing Afficient 8th grade math. But for english its also pretty good except sometimes if you get 3 or 4 question wrong it subtracts like 0.20, but otherwise 10 out of 10

I feel like Afficient Math is a good website, and it teaches you a lot of the material. Of course, there can always be improvement. One area I feel like Afficient can improve in is if there is a practice button. You can just practice your skills without having to fear you are going to make a mistake and lose a lot of your progress. Also, I feel like its a bit unfair, as you are always under stress because one question wrong in the Afficiency session can bring your grade point down by 0.8 or 1. When you do a set of questions correctly, you get a maximum of 0.1. Usually, its 0.04 or 0.05. This makes it really hard to not feel stressed and fearful of the result. All in all, I recommend it.

First time Math is a great fun for my kids. It is practically turned into a computer game for the kids while learning all the Math basics and skills they will need for school and college. It can become quite competitive when the kids strive of who will get better scores. Also it can surprisingly (and probably unintentionally) teach the kids on independent thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills when they struggle but refuse to contact their teachers for help.

My daughter loves Afficient Math and English. The software interface gives her the challenge like a video game. She is now her teachers little assistant in school to teach other kids math. She gets A for all her math tests. We just started English program this school year and it has brought her grade up in just a few months. I highly recommend Afficient for your kids. Its the best program we ever joined.

For learning math, its pretty ok, though the site is filled with bugs. Things like glitched interfaces are very common. Also, the Afficiency sessions are bugged. If you go through one without fail, you might earn 0.3 grade score at best, but if you get it wrong it subtracts tens of percents and plenty of grade score. If the bugs were fixed, this site would be an ok alternative to something Khan Academy. I still recommend it.

This is Part Two of my previous review (because I reached the character limit)! If you havent read the first one, go find it! (By Ruppee Rupert). Okay, now lets move on to another error I think that the program has made. I always have trouble clicking the help button. If youre on the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, or ESPECIALLY eighth question of a learning session, youll find yourself doing all that you can to avoid pressing it. Why? Simple. When you press the help button, it deletes your progress. And you have to start over. Again. And again. And again. A lot of the time (especially in Grade 8 and beyond), the demo doesnt explain how to do a certain type of question that you encounter in the actual learning session. Youre stuck pressing help, and sometimes it just enrages you because it deletes all your progress for that learning session that you worked so hard for. A way to fix this is to give the student no hints until the fourth question, where you can receive one HELPFUL hint to nudge them towards the direction they should be going (the first step to achieving their answer, etc.) Then I think on the fifth question, they should receive two. Same with the sixth, seventh, and eighth questions. I also think that you should get two tries on the last question for every learning session, so the student isnt freaking out when they finally manage to claw their way there. Okay, next critic. The weekly assignments. Its not necessarily the WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT that I think is bad. I think its the fact that youre expected to finish it. On your website, it claims that Afficient is a self-paced program (or something along those lines), but how is it self-paced when you have a weekly assignment? What if some people are slower at doing math and are forced to spend way more time on Afficient than would be ideal? I think that to fix this you can create goals that students can set for themselves---that they arent expected to reach every week. I think that if they CAN reach it though, they should earn extra tokens (like 1 for 1 week of completion) instead of a weekly assignment. Next flaw: the tokens. Its VERY hard to earn tokens (particularly in the higher grades). Even if you finish 1000%, you only get 2 tokens (if youre not in honors or high honors). I think that at 1000% and above, you should get at least 5 tokens (without honors or high honors). Speaking of honors and high honors... what the heck is the deal with that?! Theres a minimum score when I could be earning so many more tokens because IM ALREADY TWO GRADES AHEAD WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?? Its practically impossible to catch up to the minimum score required for honors!! Last but 100% not least, the Afficiency state. Its absolute madness! You gain an average of about 0.03 after each set completed (with no errors), but when you get ONE question wrong... IT BRINGS YOUR SCORE DOWN BY AN AVERAGE OF A WHOLE POINT!! This is obviously unfair, and I suggest that you make it so that you at least gain 1.1 points after each set, or something around that. Not 0.03!Afficient English Program. Its significantly better than the Math Program in my opinion because the weekly assignments are way easier to complete and the demos are easier to understand. You also dont need a certain amount of questions correct IN A ROW to finally pass the learning session, which I approve of IMMENSELY (and suggest you add the feature to the Math Program). But in the English Program, there are a LOT more bugs. At times, theres grammar mistakes or punctuation errors, but that wasnt the only thing I was talking about. A rarer (but definitely not unseen) bug is that on some questions, theres two options that are the exactly the same in multiple choice, and when you click on one, it automatically fills the other bubble. Its not that bad, really, just odd and something that would make parents doubt the validity of Afficient English. Mostly, theres just tons of glitches for English. (I cant say more because of the character limit, sadly). Thank you for your time.

One problem I don’t like about this bot knowledged system is that when you don’t know a question, you are supposed to be able to press the help button and it helps you out with the question, but in this system when you press help it is gonna take off some points from your weekly assignment status. When it helps you it’s gonna take points off?!?!? I mean that’s just not what help is supposed to do. I also think that some of the demos that are displayed before the to be learned questions are not clear enough or specific and usually show easier problems of the specific topic and not the hard ones that are in the questions. The ratio of given points to lost points is a huge difference, one wrong question could cost you 5 points whereas 6 correct questions are around 0.8 points, or if the question is a very important question in afficiency session, mistakes can cause you to lose as much as 15 points. Another problem is when you are at 100% you get 1 token, at 200% youre at 2 tokens, if this trend continues shouldnt I be at 3 tokens if Im at 300%?!?!? well hell no for afficient, EVERYTHING over 200% is 2 tokens. Even if youre at like 4000% you still get 2 tokens. And theres just like a million bugs throughout this entire system!!! Personally i think its a scam to pay $400 for afficient, when 200 tokens earned will only give you $100. 200 tokens took my 1 frickin year.

This program totally saved my 2nd grade daughter’s math journey! She was so behind in 1st grade that her confidence level crashed. After talking to a couple teachers and friends we tried Afficient Math in Sept 2019. Within 3 months she finished the whole 2nd grade math content with A+ result and then started learning 3rd grade on her own with pride and honor! As a software engineer in Bay Area, I highly recommend this program to other school aged kids and their parents. Such a relief on our busy parenting life!

I am grateful that we bumped into this awesome place. Finally a good solution for my sons math education, which I myself have been struggling for several years of trying to be a good tutor to them. I of course tried online solution like Khan Academy, and it did not work either. Afficient easily won the competition based on several factors:1. Khan academy gives a completion percentage for each grade, but you have no much idea how well the kids do on each grade. Afficients score makes much better sense. If your kids complete a grade with 98, there is high correlation they might get an A+ in that grade.2. Boy, I love that small clock when kids work on Level 3 questions. Kids tend to slack without time pressure. Solving a question within 10 seconds and solving the same question using 3 minutes are hugely different. Afficient approach addresses this issue.3. The leader board, the tokens, the rewards make a big difference in motivating kids. My younger son is hardly working toward getting a Kindle Fire. The community feel also makes kids aware of what other kids are doing and they can better gauge their effort.4. Learning center is a big plus. My kids are much more efficient working at the center than at home. Not mention they have tutors available helping them. After so many years, finally I think I solved the math tutoring problem with Afficient.

I am shocked that children can learn math and English through AI. After my friend introduced me, I paid attention to the public account, and later let the child do the test, only to find that the childs level was not as good as I expected. In hopes of success, I later tried Afficient Mathematics. For more than 2 months, the childs level has improved by leaps and bounds. The most interesting thing is that the AI always asks children questions according to their mastery. The AI intelligent wrong question set works well. Being in Silicon Valley, I believe that technology-based products, and the use of AI in education can really make us parents worry, and children learn better!
