If you could learn quickly, or learn deeply from a Master, which would you choose? If you chose the latter, the Tai Chi Wellness Center is a school you want to attend. Master Henry possesses great skill, and the ability to teach what can be taught so that we can learn the rest for ourselves. After over 5 years of learning from Master Henry, I can not recommend a skill to pursue or a Master to follow more than he. Hopefully, we will see you in class.

Master Henry Cheng teaches with patience and humor. His introductory class is challenging, but after a few classes you stop thinking “I’ll never be able to do this”, and you relax into knowing there will always be more to learn. Following Master Henry’s example, the students are respectful and helpful.I strongly encourage anyone who is interested in learning tai chi to visit the Tai Chi Wellness Center.

I began studying Tai Chi wu style under Master Henry Cheng 3 1/2 years ago. Originally, I started because I was doing a mindfulness class and part of our homework was to do a mindful exercise. Tai Chi fits perfectly into this category. I quickly became an ardent fan of this beautiful martial arts and the incredible teachings of Master Henry. The San Diego area is very blessed to have such a skilled Tai Chi instructor. Master Henry is a fifth generation Master, teaching not only Tai Chi but Qi Gong, calligraphy and art. When you walk into the Tai Chi Wellness Center you will notice many beautiful paintings and calligraphy artworks on the walls all created by Master Henry. It immediately brings a deep sense of calm and serenity to you. That is exactly the feeling you get as you become immersed in Tai Chi. As you begin to study Tai Chi you will notice the Chi energy flow through your body and at the same time you learn to balance better, not only physically but mentally as well. As an added benefit many of my friends began noticing how Tai Chi changed the way I moved. I also started to learn Tai Chi self-defense. In the self-defense class we learn how to yield and how to handle a surprise situation. A fellow student convinced me to also try Tai Chi swords and sabers. It has quickly become my favorite class. The Center is a gathering place for like-minded people and you sense a feeling of community the minute you walk in the door. Master Henry Chengs Tai Chi Wellness Center and all the incredible classes he provides receives my highest recommendation.Studying Tai Chi with Master Henry has been a positive life changing experience for me.

Master Henry of Tai Chi Wellness Center provides many options for students - from group beginner class to advanced to Chi Gong Energy class to Chinese calligraphy. I really like how he teaches the full art - both internal and the self defense portion of the art. Many of his classes are done after work hours so its great for those of us who cant go during the day. He also offers classes in the weekends. His students love him and feel a deep connection with him - many students have been with him over 5 years which is a true testament to his teachings and his programs. Its also in a very central location - Clairemont area - you can get to it from the 5 freeway or from 163.He and his students take part at Clairemont Family Days where they showcase all the different programs the Tai Chi Wellness Center offers.

A local treasure!I’ve been drawn to Tai Chi Wellness Center for several years, but only recently have been able to find the time to dedicate to Tai Chi practice. What can I say, the more I do it, the more amazing it feels! So what’s so special about Tai Chi?Well, there are so many layers to it! Most people may have an idea of what Tai Chi flow might look like (picture a group of people moving very slowly in unison in a park). What most people may not realize, is that Tai Chi is a high-level Martial Art with concrete self-defense applications of each move - it’s not just a moving meditation. And what’s most striking about Tai Chi as a Martial Art, is the fact that it requires no force! It is absolutely unbelievable! So what’s so special about Tai Chi Wellness Center? The Center was founded by Master Henry Cheng, who is one of very very few Wu Style Tai Chi Masters that you can find - we are soooo lucky that he is here in San Diego! Master Cheng is absolutely amazing, and his skills are mind-blowing. If there is a real-life Jedi Master - that would be him!Master Henry is an amazing teacher and he is truly dedicated to his students - he wants you to learn, to succeed. He is also extremely patient with all of us, regardless of our skill level or ability. In spite of his unique gifts and exceptional skills, Master Henry is incredibly humble. It is such a gift to learn from him! It’s not about getting “belts”, winning competitions, but it’s about learning the essence of an extremely powerful and gentle Martial Art.At the beginning, the focus of Tai Chi classes is on memorizing the correct movements (which is a beautiful meditative experience in itself), but over time, one can learn how to use the Chi, and that’s when the real magic begins! In addition to Tai Chi form, self defense, and weapons classes, Master Henry also teaches Qigong (which enhances your perception of Chi), Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese Art, and the essence of Tao philosophy and how it applies to everything we are leaning.Who should learn Tai Chi?Well, anyone! It’s great for the young and the old, people with some Martial Arts experience and someone who is completely new to it. I am not even going to list all the benefits of Tai Chi (they are numerous!), but I’ll just say, that it can be a life-changing experience. The classes themselves are fun (Tai Chi Sword is my personal favorite) and the atmosphere at the Center is relaxed and friendly - it’s a great group of people and you immediately feel welcomed. If you are considering giving Tai Chi a try, this is the place. Honestly, I wouldn’t even look anywhere else if you want something authentic and truly special. You’ll know exactly what I mean when you come.

Reminiscing all these years of studying Tai Chi, I may still be a beginner BUT I enjoy waking up every morning and practicing the Wu style Tai Chi form in my living room. It helps me to get ready for my day with a calm and peaceful mindset that prepares me for what the day may bring. By practicing Tai Chi, my health and immune system has greatly improved. Also, in Tai Chi classes, I learned about life and how to treat people. Here is a favorite quote that I would like to share with you on Yelp by Lao Tzu from the Tao Te Ching book (read it slow, many times over. Enjoy. Youre welcome : )Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are.Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world....There is no greater misfortunethan underestimating your enemy.Underestimating your enemymeans thinking that he is evil. Thus you destroy your three treasuresand become an enemy yourself. When two great forces oppose each other, the victory will goto the one that knows how to yield.― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
