Overall a fine school. Shame all these people want to complain for no reason. Facilities are a bit old, but the education you get will give you a good foundation for high school. Most of the bad reviews were written by students who literally put no effort into what they do. There are some really great teachers (Garcia, Knox, Babauta, Ehrlich, Lockwood...) here who will make sure that any student with a drive is able to succeed. Have made so many amazing friends here over the last three years. Every school has some issues, but Roosevelt does a good job keeping them to a minimum. Sorry William and Moses, but obviously you havent yet realized the good that this school is doing.

Roosevelt is a pretty good school. Despite the very strict uniform policy, I would recommend this school to any parents in the area. There is minimal to no bullying. The teachers that Ive met are very accepting and helpful.

IB advisor drinks on field trips. Completely disorganized. They lost our personal information more times than I could count. Ignore the phone calls telling you your kid isnt at school because they are wrong. They dont even have a clue where your kids are.

To start off, its by no means a bad school, in my experience at least. Im not going to name off teachers but some do have problems controlling their classes which definitely affects learning. But hey, the kids should also be able to control themselves. Im in the Seminar program right now, and I feel like that might you get a better learning experience, but even if all of the teachers arent stellar, none of them are BAD. As other users have stated, the bathrooms arent clean- to say the least. Now, we do have good custodians but sometimes kids arent the smartest. Now a lot of the equipment is mediocre, but thats the school district fault, not the schools. Overall, I like the school, and I will continue in it until 8th grade, but as any other school does, it has its flaws. If youre looking for a middle school for you child, and you live in the area, I would recommend Roosevelt. Maybe its just because I enjoy the (surprisingly engaging) seminar and gate program, but I can vouch for it.

This school is alright. The uniform policy is dumb and there are a lot of really bad teachers, especially the math teachers. The food is trash and the bathrooms are gross. Also the art program you take in history is a joke. But some classes are really good and bullying is never really problem. I also really enjoyed pe because they push you.

I went there last year and moved schools. Im in 7th right now. Roosevelt has good and bad things just like every school. I dont mind uniforms but I feel that there should be more freedom of personal expression because uniforms can really hide someones true self. The PE teachers are a bit too tough on their students. I mean, not everyone is talented athletically. Roosevelt is huge on stopping bullying but I feel that there should be a bit more awareness when it comes to that. The food isnt horrible but I feel that there should be major changes. Just like most schools. But other than that, I enjoyed my time at Roosevelt.

I am in 8th grade. I have been there since 6th grade. This school sucks butt. The food is terrible. I get in trouble for defending myself. The uniforms are trash. The school takes the uniform policy WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. My history teacher hates me. There are quite a few teachers I hate. Everyone is glad they are going to an other school.

I give this school a 1 star because it is the worst school ive ever been at people sell drugs in the bathroom and theres fights almost everday theres bullies if your kid goes here then prepare him for the worst. GOOD LUCK TO YOU

MY experience- Im an eighth grader here.-My teachers this year are great (especially Mr. Lockwood for English, Mr. Cortes for history, and Madame Doyen for french) Doyen is getting moved to an elementary school with little notice even though she started the french program here!! In past years I didnt like my science teachers, one of them got moved but my sixth grade teacher, Mrs Reilly, just gave off a vibe that I didnt like and I felt all year like she had a grudge against me.-I bring a lunch from home because the food here is horrible, if I forget to bring it I just go without eating lunch for a day.-The bathrooms are disgusting and Id ESPECIALLY recommend not to use the bathroom in the girls PE locker room. I have to give some credit to custodial staff because they do clean it and its the students fault the bathrooms are so gross. Theres also the cockroach problem, it seems like the zoo just pushed them off of their grounds and onto ours.-The uniforms are honestly not that bad compared with other schools, we get relatively more freedom especially with shirts and jackets. People get away with breaking uniform code anyway so it wouldnt be fair to complain about it.-The start time. 7:25?? Seriously? It might be a district thing but its completely unfair to students. Supposedly they start earlier to accommodate for parents jobs and so students have time to do things after school, but we end up doing our homework late at night. That causes people not to go to bed until past 11. I have to wake up at 6 in order to get to school on time, and even then Im sometimes late. Then the administration turns around and tells us to get sleep, despite the CRAZY homework loads we get, even on the weekends and over breaks. If I had homework from one teacher at a time it would be manageable, but they seem not to care that all my homework adds up to hours of work for one night.-Ive become sleep deprived and depressed from the amount of drama going on at this school. The counselors really dont help with serious issues like harassment, if I told them that my long-time friends constantly talk about me behind my back theyd most likely tell me to tell my friends that its making me feel sad :( ...Um, no thanks. People at this school get away with things they should be punished for and actually get in trouble for little things.-Apparently this school used to be really ghetto, and the admin is tryingtoo hard to turn that around. Theres so much focus on the IB traits, its really annoying. I went to Birney Elementary for two years and they actually made the IB stuff fun, but when I switched to Mckinley it was the same thing as Roosevelt. All this focus on being thinkers and inquirers wont help us in life. In fact, just in case theres any admin reading this, all the focus on the IB traits ALMOST convinced me not to continue in the IS program at San Diego High. So congrats, you almost ruined a students future, in a way.-Community project. People who put a lot of work into this get the same grades as other groups who do almost nothing and just barely get by. Completion of this project is required in order for an eighth grader to promote, along with one other crazy requirement. You cant have any absences. I have 2, as of April. My mom is currently trying to get them cleared to I dont have to go to their useless Saturday school, but theyre not being very understanding. One absence is a mistake where my teacher had let me go to the bathroom and took attendance while I was gone, and my other absence SHOULD be excused since I was at the dentist, and only for one class. They just want attendance money!-My sister just started sixth grade here and is already cussing and making dirty jokes.Certain teachers are the best part of this school, the rest needs work!

Let me start off that this school fails to give your child a decent meal. The lunch here is terrible. The milk is usually spoiled. I want to share one of my lunch experiences on my first year at Roosevelt Middle School. In 6th grade, I didnt eat breakfast that morning so I was led to eat the lunch at school. In my state of mind, I thought, well, the lunch shouldnt be as bad as everyone says it is, so I got a cereal and some milk and sat with my friends. I open the carton of milk that they provide you which by the way, has no expiration date on the side and what came out of that carton was definitely NOT good milk. The spoiled milk splattered on my cereal and could best be described as cottage cheese. I never thought that would come out of my carton nor think that the milk would be as spoiled as it came out.Now, let me explain to you the reasons people get sent to the office. Just recently, I had a friend who was hugging one of her friends but to the eyes of the security there, they were supposedly making out. You must be thinking, oh, you werent there so how do you know? The thing is, they hug every time on the same spot and I happen to pass by there to get to my fourth period. So yeah, I saw the hugging. They were both sent to the counselors office and both of their parents were called. Their parents were called for hugging?! Ridiculous! Let me share one of my personal experiences. In the 6th grade, there was another kid in my grade level who was known for being weird? I didnt know him as well so I didnt think much of him. One day during lunch, for some reason he brought a stuffed giraffe and was passing it around my friends table. For some reason, it ended up with me and I just examined the stuff animal. At that moment, he came up to me and bit me in the arm. This caused me to have a bruise and even a scar on my right arm to this day. That isnt the worst part. We were both sent to the office and all he got was a two day suspension. TWO DAYS!! That kid deserves to be expelled. But, his mom and the principal are really good friends so he deserves a green pass. I am saying that he deserves to be expelled because a kid got a FOUR day suspension for riding his skateboard through campus.Enough of discipline, lets speak about the teachers at this school. While some of the teachers are pretty chill, there are the teachers who have no chill for the kids. For example, my 8th grade history teacher has no chill for the kids in my class. He says that he expects more from us since we are in seminar. Yeah, we should be higher than the other kids in our grade level but he went to the extreme. I will explain that in a bit. One time, he got really petty because our class didnt stay quiet but the thing is, he just sat in his chair waiting for us to be quiet. He didnt even give us a please be quiet side note. So, he goes to the back room and gets a sheet that gives instructions of an essay. He told us that we must finish a three paged essay by the next day while the other classes had this same essay due in a few days. He is so petty and salty. I dont enjoy his class. Now, let me explain the incident before Spring Break. Before starting he gave us plenty of time to finish these assignments but there was no good reason for assigning as many assignments. At the beginning of March, he gave us over 3-4 projects and gave us 3 other assignments. We had until the beginning of April to turn these things in. Not to mention, the other assignments in other classes. I barely had time to finish these assignments. When I hear from other of his classes, none of them had to do the things that we did. It is depressing because history is my favorite subject and he just ruined my thoughts on the subject. Please I beg of you, do not send your kids to this school. I think that all these students posting reviews are stupid. Certainly, the school has some faults, but overall its a really good school. Here is my honest 8th grader opinion:Pros:-Amazing teachers - The P.E. teachers I think are the best-Great principal. She has run the school since I got here (Im pretty sure, maybe even for a year or two before I got there)-Excellent after school activities, whether it be an elective class or clubsMehs:-The food isnt restaurant quality, but If you forget to bring your own lunch, then its fine to eat it.-The school starts really early, but to be honest, I am fine with this because it means that we get out early too, and have pretty much a whole afternoon to do whatever we want.Cons:-Some (very few) teachers arent very good in my opinion, but others might say otherwise.-Lanschool, used to monitor students screens, is terrible. I dont say this because I like to play games, but it slows down the computers and almost none of my teachers really use it. If you want to find out what someone is doing, just walk over and look. If necessary, do CTRL + SHIFT + T to open any tabs they may have just closed, or do CTRL + H to see their history.

I went here in seventh grade more than 3 years ago and did not like it. I do have to be honest: Its hard to focus at this school, since social distractions are common. The staff was a bit inconsiderate, and inattentive to the students. If you are not in the IB program, it will be hard in the classrooms to take the teachers seriously, since most of them are busy attempting to get their class together. My grades slipped and the students were not nice to a lot of people either.

It’s ok some teachers can be mean like ms.abel or ms.redman but everyone else is good there tough on clothing policy but everything is good need to make the food better and have a cleaner bathroom

This school is for thugs, if you think your kid is going to a good college, forget it. Here 8th graders sell weed. Girls send nudes. And theres way too much bullying. The uniform policy is stupid. If you wear a coat and its raining, the staff makes you take if off.Thank the lord my mom is having me switch schools, one last thing. The food is rotten, the milk is chunky. I personally am a graduate of Roosevelt Middle School. As of now I am a 10th grader at IS San Diego High School. MOST of these reviews are by the majority of the student community. Some may be Rude, troublesome in class, usually lazy, nowhere near trying to at least make it to graduation. This school was by far easy. Teachers are there to help if you need them, but they not may always establish this at first. However the counselors and staff,(besides Mr.Munoz) are advertised as helpful and always there for a student however when I would literally get bullied at and during school the counselors and staff were nowhere to be seen. They, in my opinion, are just to ensure parents that the school is not as bad as people say,(which it is that bad). The music program is undermined, they have lost many of the original teachers who I knew and loved, only to be replaced by people who kids have no respect for. Not to mention there is nowhere near enough control on students. In my 8th grade class, about 20% of students didnt make it to graduation. There was little help I saw for my friends, me being one of the few in the group to graduate and go to the zoo. There were usually fights once a month, (just ones I know), that would happen during school lunch. In fact just a couple of weeks ago my little brother and his group, ( who are all in seminar classes), were pelted with food. All because a someone in their group, not going to say this reviewers name, stood up to him after kicking an item he was using. And only AFTER the children finished humiliating my brother and his peers and does, staff decided to show up. if you do send your child, and have read my entire review, make sure that they are above par and excelling in academics. Roosevelt has many opportunities and loving teachers who are and have potential to be helpful. Its just that the majority of the school just wears them out. I gave this review 2 stars because of the few amazing teachers I had there. Mr.Garcia, Mr.Lockwood, Dr.Herndon, and Mrs.Vigil. I insist that this school, although it has its bright spots, is not a good choice at all for a school. I only went because i had no choice

I am in 8th grade now and I loved it in 6th grade. If you go here and you take an elective it is more than likely that your grades will slip because you have less time to do your homework. The PE grades are very harsh and parents, they have nothing to do with your students ability. It is hard to focus in class because teachers have a hard time taking care of the class. In 7th grade I had a sub in math for over 6 months that did not know how to teach and I am still struggling to regain the 6 months of math I lost. This is an ok school if you are self motivating and dont care if kids and teachers are rude.

I hate the dress code, the food is terrible, and Dr. Herndon sucks, but its a very involved school. overall, its ok.
