Professor Massape is an amazing capoeira teacher, both in group classes and in private lessons. In private lessons he tailors his teaching so that you get a personal training experience using capoeira movements, he focuses on building your strength (especially core strength), endurance, acrobatic ability (he has extensive training in gymnastics and yoga), mental flexibility for improvisation, dynamic technique, and musical training. He has a warm, positive energy and a great sense of humor that make child and adult classes really fun and lively. He approaches every individual with kindness, sensitivity, and an attentive eye to promote personal growth and prevent injury. It is no surprise that he has built a fabulous capoeira community in San Diego that attracts visiting capoeira students and teachers from around the country and around the world.

When I saw Capoeira for the first time in my life, I was fascinated and entertained. However, I never intended to learn it because I always thought this acrobatic and aggressive art form was not for me.I totally misunderstood. Capoeira is such a beautiful and profound art form! This is an enjoyable way of learning a culture with people that also have the same feeling.Massape is a very friendly and experienced instructor. His energy is always good and that motivates his students. He loves to share his knowledge and his capoeira talent is fantastic! He will welcome you joyfully and teach you attentively.

I cant find enough good things to say about Massape Andre Amado! I am a director of a Preschool, and he teaches our 4 year old children weekly. He is encouraging and patient, and a real treat to watch in action. I am also a Mom of 2 children who have taken classes with him, and they gained so much love for Capoeira through the experience. I would recommend him to anyone!

I was able to drop in for two classes with this group while I was in San Diego on a work assignment. Professor Massapê is a great teacher, I definitely left with some new learnings and inspiration. The other students were welcoming and had great energy, so it was a great experience overall. Hope to be able to visit again soon!

I have trained Capoeira in several countries and continent, and are enrolled with Massape since two years. The club and the teacher are awesome, and I have not found the same spirit and sense of competitive friendly atmosphere anywhere else. I keep pushing my limits of what I thought I could do, and Massape is the main reason for this with his acrobatics classes. I would recommend this to anyone, for me it has also helped my back heal from soreness and pain. I never regret going to Massages studio, I hope you will try it too! This is for young and old alike.

Awesome Professor Massape makes the classes fun for all the kids. He is a great mentor with impressive knoweldge, expertise and tons of passion for capoeira. My son has been studying with him for 4+ years now. This is the only sport that has kept his interest through the years (and he was good at everything too). I highly recommend!

Instructor Massape is a fantastic teacher - he breaks down the elements of Capoeira in a way that makes it accessible to all and the classes are so much fun. The people who train there are super welcoming and by the end of the first class youll be singing and playing in the roda! Couldnt recommend it more!

I have been training capoeira with Massape for almost 3 years now and I absolutely love the class almost as much as I love him as a teacher! He is a positive, dependable and motivating teacher that breaks down movements well and challenges you to do your best. I have been training under Professor Massapê, Capoeira Luanda San Diego for 2 years now. He is an excellent capoeirista and teacher who maintains an environment of students who are as friendly and helpful as he is. What a lovely group of people! Massapê teaches all of the classes and with that he brings: consistency; helpful demonstrations & breakdowns of the techniques; training customization for the various skill levels in class; relavent explanations of Brazilian history, culture, & language; style; inspiration; and fun! It is evident that Massapê is devoted to capoeira and his passion for the art comes across in everything he does. His guidance, philosophy, and encouragement keeps the class engaging. I dont have a lot of natural motivation to go do the gym thing but capoeira motivates me to train regularly and gives me a physical, mental, and musical challenge to improve upon. Im not sure where to begin, I have been apart of this group for almost 3 years now and not only have I learned more than I had ever dreamed I would! I have been learning Capoeira from Instructor Massape (Capoeira Luanda) for about two years. The class has not only helped my acrobatics, but has served as a gateway for me to feel comfortable in the world of martial arts. Thus sense of comfortability has allowed me to partake in other martial arts such as BJJ, Muay Thai, boxing, and kickboxing. Massapes class is located in the heart of North Park and draws a young working professional crowd. I have trained with Instructor Massapê for the past year. One thing I look for in a teacher is their love for their art form. Upon walking into his class the first time, it was clear that he enjoys teaching, as well as the art of Capoeira itself. His passion is evident in the many smiling students, training diligently and having fun. Instructor Massapê has a knack for communicating with all levels of students – from beginners to advanced. He breaks down the movements to develop sound and quality fundamentals (or fundaments as he likes to say). He has tremendous skill and demonstrates the moves effectively, while also communicating the mechanics of the movement – he can both show and tell you about the movement. His end goal for his students is to instill the love for Capoeira and to express ourselves as uniquely as our personalities with outstanding skill and having the full breadth of being a Capoerista – playing the musical instruments, singing the Portuguese songs and playing our Capoeira game in the roda. I love the energy of the group. Everyone welcomed me into the group as if I have been there for years. Amazing people who share in the life of training, music, fun and Capoeira! During the week classes are held at a nice dance studio that’s centrally located and on the weekend in beautiful Mission Bay. Instructor Massapê is great at bringing people together, and not letting you cut corners so you can get a great physical training. Massapê’s passion for capoeira is also apparent as he always goes the extra mile by staying after class to talk about capoeira’s culture, etc., and putting on fun capoeira events. You’ll take classes an hour and a half to eight hours a week and leave with endorphins, inspired by all the fit people (and become more fit yourself), a community/buddies from many walks of life, and humming all the wonderful capoeira songs throughout your day.
