I began taking lessons with Chris two months after starting guitar, and I feel like I have progressed tremendously. Lesson times are quite flexible for both those working or who might have availability during the day. Chris is tremendously knowledgeable, skilled and is an effective communicator. He does a good job of pointing out specific areas of improvement in technique with a strong focus on ergonomics and making sure you do not cause yourself any harm due to your technique.

Ive been a student with Chris for a few months and Ive learned a tremendous amount in that time. His focus on proper technique helps me improve while at the same time preventing injuries and pain. Lessons are tailored to my interests with a mix of theory, rhythm, licks and songs.Initially I had reservations about the group setting but it turned out to be of tremendous benefit as there is a sense of camaraderie at the small group lessons. I plan on being a student for a long time.

I have been taking lessons from Chris for 9 months. I have never picked up a guitar before starting. I am extremely happy with the progress that I have made! Chris is super talented player and equally a very good teacher!, his program is second to none. Everyone learns at their own pace, there isn’t any pressure to “keep up with the group “. Chris’s program is very well structured and produces results!!, I wouldn’t ever think of taking lessons anywhere else, and it’s a fun time with great people!!!

I’ve played on my own by ear for years. As a present to myself I got myself lessons. I’ve been already noticing gains by tightening up technique and there is now a very clear path to getting better. The group format is fun, and the groups are small enough that it considerably lowers my anxiety (no laser focus on me while I make mistakes and figure out the adjustments I am making) While also having enough attention to learn a lot, and I get to meet people that love music too.

We are lucky to have Chris in Rochester. He provides a fun atmosphere and a well-rounded musical education that seemingly can be applied to any instrument (especially guitar). I look forward to the lessons every week and have improved considerably under Chris tutelage. The location of the school at 12 corners in Brighton is perfect, easy to get to from pretty much anywhere in Rochester.

I initially found Rochesters School of Guitar while searching for a guitar instructor. At the time, there was a special for a free consultation. I wasnt really interested, but hey, it was free.Rochester School of Guitar instructs in classes. Personally, I had no desire to try to learn guitar in a room with other students. I didnt want to deal with my social anxiety or feel embarrassment by my god awful music in front of a class.Chris (during the consultation) convinced me that it was a better environment to learn and to give a class a try.The classroom settings is amazing. The other students, of all different levels, are extremely kind. Its a very warm and accepting community, and Rochesters School of Guitars multiple class times allow significant flexibility, making it much more easy to fit learning guitar around a complicated schedule. The instructors give you realistic goals allowing for measurable success in improvement.Having other students there is amazing for another reason I would never have originally imagined. The instructors will cycle through the students (but are always willing to come to you when you have questions), evaluate what you are working on, give you tips, and move to the next student. This is great, because it means you dont have a silent instructor staring at you while you try to practice, like you would with a 1-1 tutor. The instructors are willing to work with you to accomplish any aspect of guitar you wish to learn, from a simple song, music theory, or lead. They take your goals and create a realistic roadmap to get you to where you want to be in skill.A year ago, I was looking to learn guitar and now Ive gotten so much more. I have been attending regularly for just about a year and I love it. Not only have I significantly improved, but Ive become part of a community. I cant speak more highly for the institution, the instructors, or the other students. If you are on the fence, give it a try, and youll be a Rochester School Of Guitar convert, just like me.

After picking up the guitar after 4 years I wasnt sure how tough it would be to get back in the mix. Since joining Chriss School I have learned significantly more over a few months than I did in the years I was playing guitar on my own. He makes the classes engaging, identifies your strengths and weaknesses, and tailors his teaching style to suit your needs. I highly recommend the Rochester School of Guitar to those either looking to learn guitar for the first time or picking it up again after a long hiatus.

My experience with Chris was brief about 2 month,as I had to drop out,I wish I could had continue to write a more justified reviewHaving said that my experience was a positive one, I did learn some basic techniques and this did improve my guitar playing even the short time I spend there. He has a learning format which works best if you are committed to spend extended period of time with him.I like the materials he provides and also how defined he is on pointers on offline practice.Although I would like to restate that its a group setting and although he keeps track of individual process ; your time, level and progress has to be muddled up with other people who are probably at higher level than you if you are a beginner.

I have been playing guitar for nearly 40 years without formal instruction with only moderate success. Attending RSOG has made a world of difference. I have overcome a serious plateau and made significant advances in the last 6 months. The personal attention to my needs as a player combined with a very well constructed and professional level instruction program offered at RSOG is the key. While I have much to learn and to practice, I am finally happy with my progress. I highly recommend this school.

Chris is a great guitar teacher. Ive been playing guitar on and off now for about 8 years. During that time Ive taken lessons from numerous different teachers (some good, some bad) and even contemplated going to college to become a classical guitarist myself. One thing that immediately stood out about Chris was his ability to pinpoint all the weaknesses in my playing technique. I went 8 whole years playing with slightly flawed picking and fretting techniques because no other teacher bothered to notice or correct the flaws! As for the lessons themselves, they are organized in a group setting. Even though guitar players of various skill levels may exist within any given group, each student is given a personalized lesson plan to keep them working on skills relevant to their current level of guitar proficiency. Hours are flexible and Chris is always willing to allow you to make up any missed lessons. All in all I have had a great experience learning guitar with Chris. I would highly recommend any budding guitarist to look into taking lessons at Rochesters School of Guitar.

Chris is a well rounded teacher, he makes sure he understands you and vice versa before moving on to help the next person. Most importantly he develops a rapport with each of his students which only heightens the experience of each lesson. As I am a college student, flexible timing is a major factor for me. His businesss scheduling and always being very easy to contact and talk to if you run into problems in any aspect of his business is comforting and feels well organized. He cares about each of his students and always keeps their goals in mind while assigning them tasks to improve their play. All in all in a short amount of time I felt like I was a much better guitarist than the beginner walking into his first lessons, now knowing what I needed to focus on most. If you are looking for guitar lessons in the Rochester area Rochester Rock Academy is a top competitor and is well worth the consideration.

Theres a lot to choose from in Rochester, but Im really glad I went with RSG. Chris is a fantastic teacher with a very structured approach that he tailors to you and what you want to get out of the guitar. Classes are very flexible, and the social aspect of the group lessons has been great, despite my initial hesitations with it. Turns out, its reassuring when youre surrounded by people with the same desire as you to learn the guitars secrets, and have the same struggles as you. The other teacher, Adam, is also great and very knowledgeable, and their personalities complement each other well. Ive learned much more in the past 5 months of lessons with Chris than I have in all my 15 years of noodling and trying to figure it out on my own. Definitely recommended. 🎸🎸

Students Beware. Chris tried to steal $308.00 from me and I never even had 1 lesson, not one. He is more interested in a one time money grab that a long relationship with his students. What ever you do, do not sign his contract without your lawyer present. I met with Chris, told him I was going on vacation but I would sign up and try and make up the classes. Came back from vacation and could not get in that week. Now I am almost a month behind with no lessons. I called Chris and asked him to hold the next month payment so I could get caught up and then he could start billing me again. He said no and would not reason at all. So I went to meet with him in person to try and come to an agreement so I could catch up and move forward as a student and a long time monthly subscriber for lessons. Again Chris would not reason and did not care about the relationship or having a long time student. He then sent a collection agency after me. Chris is a very bad business person and has no clue about customer service and the difference between right and wrong. Chris if you decide to grow up and start thinking about your customers, I would be glad to talk to you to resolve this. Until the time that Chris changes his ways I would be very cautious before getting involved in his school. To Chriss response- This just goes to show you how delusional Chris is. He turned me over for collection for zero services received. I tried to reason with him to let me catch up until he charged me more money, but he wanted nothing to do with this. Very common sense request. Again beware until Chris grows up and learns how to treat customers. Fellow students, i was only asking for concessions to get caught up. I was not asking for my money back. Is this a teacher you can feel comfortable with. I signed up for guitar lesson. I was not expecting confrontation with the teacher.

I am blown away in what my daughter has learned in the 4 months she has been taking lessons at Rochester’s School of Guitar. My daughter had taken lessons before hand and stopped taking lessons all together. Basically because it wasn’t fun. It was your typlical 30 min lesson once a week. She hated it!! This last November a friend recommended Rochester School of Guitar and my daughter has learned so much and is having so much fun playing again. Tonight she really showed us what she has learned and I was amazed! I knew she would have never learned what she knows now unless it wasn’t for Chris’s teaching style. I can’t thank him enough. I highly recommend his school. The lessons are different and geared towards really learning how to play the guitar!! My daughter sounds like she has been taking lessons for years! Chris told us he could improve her playing ability and all is can say is WOW!!

Instruction is set to your current level then set-up in such a way that is 3/4 structured self practice and 1/4 class skill building. Chriss teaching technique is sound and better yet, FUN! Of course, you only get out of it what you put into it. Classes are set up in group style which leads to folks working together to improve, sharing their history and the joys and frustrations of practice, and builds a sense of belonging that I think helps with the motivation to get to classes more often. There are plenty of classes offered so no excuse for not attending! Give Chris a call for more information and please share this with anyone who has ever thought of playing guitar or likes playing guitar but is stuck in a rut and wants to improve. Classes are made up of all ages so as a guy in his mid 50s that has had a guitar in hand for over 40 years but never became a real player, I can tell you that you are never too old to learn and improve - no one judges you here. Beware People! Very uncomfortable taking lessons in a group setting, He Doesnt offer any options for one on one lessons. After only taking 1 of the 4 lessons I paid for in the months subscription, I missed the cancel deadline by 4 days and he billed for the following month. Even after calling and explaining I would forfeit the 3 unused lesson he wouldnt forgive being past the 4 days past the cut off. As a business owner this was not good customer service. I wouldnt pay so he turned me into collections. The lessons are nothing more than what you can lookup online. Save your money!
