My son had his birthday party here last month. The facility was clean, neat, and offered a comfortable waiting area for the parents. Mr. Kanabay organized fun games and board breaking for all the kids. As a parent, it was wonderful having everything from goodie bags to pizza already arranged. My son and his friends had a wonderful time!

Kickside Martial Arts is home to some of the most driven, disciplined and talented students. They excel not only in the classroom, but are tough competitors at the many martial arts tournaments they participate in. The positive impact that this program has on everyone involved is thanks to the exceptional teaching staff working here. If youre searching for a martial arts program to get yourself/son/daughter involved in, look no further.

I take the adult mma classes at kickside and could not be happier. A good mix of ground and striking with cardio as well. Very informative instruction that not only tells you how to do something but why as well. Very reasonable monthly rates. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who can cater to individual needs. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Kickside Martial Arts is hands down the best martial arts training in the area. The instructors show a genuine interest in their students and helping them achieve their goals. I have been training for the past 33 yrs (since age of 10) at other Tae Kwon Do schools in the area, as well as BJJ, Kenpo Karate, Jeet Kun Do, and Filipino Kali throughout the years. No other school has come close to the instruction, organization, and dedication to students as I have experienced at Kickside. They will challenge each student to do their best. When it came time for my children to start their martial arts journey, we looked at a few area schools until coming across Kickside. The choice was a no brainer and we have been training at Kickside Martial Arts for over two years now. It is literally our home away from home. Not only are the facilities clean and organized, but this is not the typical cookie cutter martial arts school where you pay your monthly fee and receive your next rank for merely showing up. In addition to self-defense, here you will learn self-confidence, self-discipline, and EARN your way through the ranks with hard work and dedication. Kickside is perfect for both kids and adults, and whether participating in their Tae Kwon Do or MMA curriculum, you are guaranteed top of the line instruction, techniques, and an experience that is tailored for everything from the mat, to the cage, to the streets.

This is the best school for martial arts instruction in our area. We surveyed all of them when we switched from a martial arts school that taught more of a dance class than real tae kwon do - where higher rank students couldnt do 10 push ups. If you want your child to gain self-confidence, they will by meeting physical challenges with their own real actions. If you want your child to learn how to defend themselves against bullies (which really do exist), they will with proper instruction for John Kanabay and his excellent staff. If you want your child to look in the mirror with pride in their accomplishments, they will after doing it all on their own. Kickside Martial Arts is the best school to enroll them in.

My child started at age 7 and now has her 2nd degree black belt at 16. Over the years I have seen families come and go. The ones that leave in a “huff” often see the study of Tae kwon Do as a box to check or baby sitter activity every suburban should experience and put on their child’s resume. The serious student understands that like life nothing is perfect . I found the poor review written completely contemptuous, obviously not from a person who truly understands the fundamentals of martial artsBest he go somewhere he can find more adults. By the way- Teenagers who are in the thick of learning are the most understanding teachers with relevant and practical skills to teachKickside Marital Arts is a business but absolutely Not an imposter - Martisl Arts Belt Mill.

Consider elsewhere, horrible envioroment. it smels in exercise area in their new area. i got my kids out as soon as contract ended. stay away from contract sports places, this place could have been better with better managament and clean enviroment. John as an instructor is horrible, just making money there. all instructors are below 18 and dont know how to manage class. kids coild be wondering outside without them knowing!!!!John go back to landscapping boddy, this aint for you.

My daughter has been taking class for three years at Kickside, in both of their locations in Hillsborough and Montgomery. She has enjoyed her training, and has progressed from white belt to red belt and will be testing for a black belt in a year. The instructors know how to keep young students interested while still teaching them all the skills they need to progress. One unexpected benefit is that parents can train for free (in separate adult classes). I was dubious of this when it was first offered, but I tried it, and three years later I, too, am a red belt and have lost 25 lbs in the process. Many other parents have taken up this offer as well, and the adult classes are well attended.John Kanabay, the head instructor, has gotten into competitive breaking (boards and concrete). Last year, he won the World Champion belt at the ISKA championships in Florida for power elbow concrete, and this year won both World Champion in 3D breaking and overall Ultimate Breaker titles; he was the first competitive breaker to become sponsored. So he is well qualified to teach any adults that want to try out this corner of the martial arts world.MMA classes have recently opened up. Master Kanabay trained for many years with some of the biggest names in the UFC. He has sent one of his students into the cage where she has had great success, and will be sending two more students later this year. You do not need to plan on becoming a cage fighter to take class; it is a good workout and learning the skills are a reward in itself.
