I came in for a shaping/trim and had Natalie who was amazing! I felt that she really listened to my needs and understood my hair type/texture. Natalie and her instructor, Mary, seemed to have great chemistry as well. The instructors seem to be very knowledgeable which is reflected in how well the students do. Natalie was great to talk to, she seemed to really know what she was doing, and my haircut turned out amazing!

I had my hair bleached and colored by Emmalynn and she did an astounding job! I’ve gotten SO many compliments. I can’t wait to go back and have her touch up my blonde in the future. I had my hair cut by Ellie, who also did a great job. She was really considerate of how picky I am and gave me exactly what I asked for. Both of my stylists did an incredible job! :)

Veronica was amazing! Came in for a little bang trim on my mullet thing. She double-checked with me before any cutting to be sure they didn’t go too short. She also gave me fantastic styling tips (that actually worked when I tried them days later) with products she knew I already had and without trying too crazy upsell me on new products. I had a 3 pm appointment yesterday and left the salon around 4:30.An hour and a half for a hair cut and for a half way blower that was not even done. (The hairdresser used a weird comb to blow-dry my hair and that gave me a lot of frizz).I completely understand that the students need to check with their teachers in terms of how well they are cutting hair, but realistically for someone with a job, being in a salon for more than an hour seems like a lot.Lastly, I didnt even know I could give tips to the hairdresser and that wasnt an option at the front desk.For the future I think it will make more sense for the staff to communicate to the person thats getting their hair done that the procedure is going to take and hour and a half.

Its a great place to get beauty and hair things done for a good price, and on top of that you help students get their beauty license! I enjoy going.

I saw a tiktok of a girl who went to your salon and... y’all fried her hair off. She had shoulder length hair and left with two inches of healthy hair left. The rest was literally fried. You then told her “be careful brushing it for a couple days” 😐🙃 I’m sorry, WHAT?! the fact you let her walk out like that is ridiculous. Do better at training your stylists. Like a lot better.

They really put safety first..everyone there is on the same page about having a safe experience. Thank u Hanna for an excellent facial..she was skilled, professional and not at all rushed..I will be back for sure..very good value and no one is pushy.. Her Instructor was very nice as well...also I really appreciated the online reservation system and how fast I was able to get an appointment.

Scheduled a facial there several days ago and called 5 minutes before my appointment time to cancel and gave no reason. Very disrespectful of my time as I rearranged my schedule to go and they couldn’t even give me notice before the appointment was canceled.

I dont have complains about the service because it is what it is but being a person who has gotten mani and pedis regularly for almost 10 years I gotta say that the lack of higiene (like not using gloves) and some other little details kinda bummed me out.other than that it was ok.

As I was looking into Aveda Institute, I was a bit nervous about the process and getting enrolled. Going through the financial aid was a bit nerve racking for me since I have previously heard so many stories from friends. Nicole Romiti was so amazing at helping me every step of the way. Any time I had a question she was so upbeat and encouraging and most importantly quick to respond and help me with each step along the way. She definitely helped give me the extra confidence that I didnt even know I needed. This staff is so caring and amazing!!

I studied esthetics at Aveda Im nature. They are a school, but professionalism is the name of the game there. The instructors are all highly experienced and the students who do the work are carefully supervised and managed directly by them. The prices are affordable, and they really do a fantastic job. Whether its a hair cut, coloring, perm, or esthetics in the spa. I highly recommend them.

Ive gone to the Institute for 4 or 5 years now, and have had haircuts, weaves, brow waxing and tinting during that time. Every 6 - 8 weeks Ive had a haircut there. My cut is short and fairly complex, combining 3 styles into 1. Consistently Ive had a very good cut (some better than others). I never worry because the instructors are very good and direct the students when they need it. I always get compliments on my hair, and recommend the Institute for anyone. Its a great value, and they treat their clients very well.

I was seen by Jasmine W., who was so lovely to talk to. I was on vacation in Portland and was familiar with the Institute as I use it back home in Philly. I received a root touch-up where she also pulled the color through to the ends for a more uniform look. This job took 3 hrs since all the girls were waiting in line to have their dye mixed by a Supervisor. Jasmine explained that there was a shortage of Supervisors due to covid and a surplus of students working. Since my appt time was in the afternoon I think Aveda should have warned incoming customers of the extra wait for dye jobs. Being as I was on vacation I was not happy to waste away 3 hrs on my hair. Other than the wait, she did a good job and Im happy with the results. The Institute took a lot of safety precautions but what would have helped is greater transparency and communication about the effects of their staffing shortage.

I called today for a manicure / pedicure requesting a higher level student and they said they will not do that. If I know a name of someone I want to request thats fine, but they will not accommodate. Ive never had one there so how am I supposed to know. I went here a while ago for a facial. The student told me as she was working on me that she started there a month ago. I cannot believe they are letting a student work on people that early in!! It was not a great experience and I forgot to request a higher level student as suggested by someone else that goes there. When leaving I spoke to the front desk and she said they can always put a preference on my profile for higher level only, they will accommodate and its not a problem at all. I know these are students, I was one recently as well. Our patients had the right to be comfortable requesting higher level students / interns if it made them more comfortable. Im not sure if this is just the front desk person Julianna that answered this morning or nobody can get on the same page. This is a really poor business module.

So happy with my experience enrolling at Aveda! Chris with admissions is so warm, welcoming and really nice. He responded really fast and gave me accurate, simplified different options and answers to all the million questions I had! Also I think its easy to get confused talking about financial details but Nicole with finance at Aveda made it a really simple and clear process, she was really easy to talk to, super nice and has been quick with responding as well. Really excited and relieved with the enrollment process so far!

Ive been here about 10 times over the past 4 years, and Ive nearly always been satisfied with the work. The students do a great job!! And the instructors help make sure its what you want. My issue with it is it often takes a long time.... like 4-5 hours for highlights and sometimes 2 for just a haircut. The prices are amazing, but they are raising them. It used to be 30 for highlights but now its 50 plus extra bowls if you have long hair. Still I keep coming back because its affordable and always looks good after.

I’m a former esthetics student, I have mixed feelings about Aveda. There’s a few things good a few things that are not so good. Such is life. I have no complaints about my education. Everything I wanted to know was easily accessible. 10/10 would recommend. I can’t speak for all of the teachers but the two I spent the most time with were Lisa and Danny, they were both sweet and put a lot of time and effort in making sure you feel confident in your own abilities. On the downside the place is a bit of a hot mess with booking. Some staff aren’t as kind as others. Things are a bit worse for the wear. It happens. I’m sure the booking stuff will eventually be resolved. People have bad times and act in ways they shouldn’t. I don’t blame the school for not immediately replacing stuff; students break and steal things. It’s got its problems but overall the education is good.

I came because Aveda has the best prices in town. I used to frequent the Aveda Institute in West Los Angeles and have always had great experiences. I have to say my experience was amazing. It was a really dramatic cut--14 of long black hair. My stylist, Jordan, was so fun to work with and knew exactly what I wanted. My new hairstyle is so chic I still have people coming up to me and asking about it. Thank you for the best experience. I will be coming again and again.

I’ve recently been going through the the enrollment process and I definitely was expecting it be a lot more stressful than it has been. Chris was so very friendly and answered all of my questions on the spot. He gave me a great tour of the school and made me feel extremely welcomed. He really leaves a great first impression of the whole program. Once I was ready to begin with all of the “stressful” paperwork and financial aid submissions I was very nervous that I would have a hard time. However, I was linked with Nicole and she has made everything a complete breeze. Whether it be helping me fill out minor paperwork or answering late night questions directly to make sure I was comfortable and aware of the whole process. Everyone so far has been lovely and has welcomed me with open arms. I couldn’t imagine doing all of this on my own and I genuinely appreciate all the help that has been given to me, and now I can’t wait until my start date!

I booked an appointment on July 30th for a cut and color on August 22nd. Morning of August 22nd, I receive a voicemail from the salon cancelling my appointment due to a student missing. I had already waited a month for the appointment and the last minute cancellation was extremely unprofessional. When I attempted to call back the salon, their bookings department is only open Monday - Friday, so Im not even able to speak to a representative.This was my second attempt at receiving services from Aveda Institute. My first attempt, I had also scheduled a cut and color, I spent 4 hours in the chair getting blonde highlights from a student who spent most of her time chatting with other students. I ran out of time to even get my hair cut as I was there from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. I left the salon with wet hair and my requested appointment not completed in full.Two strikes your out, I will never return to Aveda. Not worth the savings or the hassle.

Recently went to the aveda institute in downtown Portland for a haircut. My stylist was Nicole O. She did an incredible job! Probably the best haircut I ever got, I’ve gotten lost of compliments! Nicole O was totally professional and friendly. She made me feel at ease and communicates exactly what she was going to do with my hair. I had a very specific idea for what I wanted and she nailed it! Very, very happy with the experience and I will book with her again. So call now and book with Nicole O at the downtown Portland Aveda. I guess there are a few Nicole’s there, so make sure you ask for Nicole O. Can’t speak for the rest of them but she’s awesome!

I have been a long time Aveda customer and I have never had such a terrible experience as I did in Portland. The appointment started about 30 minutes after it was scheduled and the staff didnt seem concerned. The technician had very poor customer service skills and the atmosphere felt like a 1950s institution.

Mallory cut my hair today and gave me a conditioning treatment- and OMG she did a great job!!! I wanted lots of layers while still keeping my length, she made me feel like a million bucks and was so much fun to hang out with. Definitely would sit in her chair again!!!!

Really bad experience. I was there more than 1.5 hours for a blowout. The poor student stylist seemed to have no idea what she was doing to wash and dry my hair, let alone curl it. I blame the instructors there - they should be paying more attention. The instructor confirmed my treatment after the student started then never once came to check on her. Finally, the student went to get her to sign off complete. My hair was a mess (definitely not curled and still damp) yet instructor didnt even pay attention or realize how much time had passed. Shame on you, Aveda. Im sure these students are paying well for their instruction. You should be guiding them better. Ill never go back.

Second time coming here and i am very pleased. Got several services including eyebrow, underarm wax, and haircut. My stylist Maddie D. Was awesome and incredibly patient with my dog who was hanging out with me during the wax! She did a great job on my brows and listened to my requests of leaving as much volume as possible. She also did my hair and I enjoyed chatting with her the whole time! Aveda is an awesome full service salon and i will definitely keep coming for all of my styling needs. So glad i found this place!

I had a great experience at the Chicago school, so figured I’d check out Portland’s location. Unfortunately, this did not live up to my experience in Chicago. I had an 11am appointment and wasn’t seen until 1130. When asked about my appointment, they said my stylist was setting up her station...for 30 minutes??? Overall, my stylist did a nice job but she had no confidence in what she was doing and no customer service skills. That led to a nearly hour and a half hair cut. On top of that, almost all the students were on their phone for goodness sakes! Even if they had a customer! It was so unprofessional. Hair cutting is a people business, and no one seems to understand that there. I love the price of the haircuts but with awful customer service, excessive wait times, and students who aren’t confident in their abilities, that makes me want to take my business else where. Know what you’re signing up for and have very low expectations if you go to Aveda.

Really great and quick service for an unbeatable price. I loved the hand massage prior to my haircut. Everything turned out exactly as I hoped. The student was kind and knowledgeable and the instructor was very helpful and always available if needed. I will definitely come here again!

I would like to do my part in saving other people from wasting their money attempting to get an education at this place. For 10 thousand dollars I got two months of In person classes and the rest was online. Kick back in tuition? Nope, I actually got charged MORE for VERY subpar schooling. Anything I have learned has been entirely on my own between books and YouTube. Save your time and money and head to a school that’s going to charge you less for tuition.The director, Sid, is incredibly demeaning and rude to anyone that experiences any type of issues with the school, this includes if you receive a bad service. The entire institute is frauding people out of money. Spend your time and money somewhere else!

I went in to get a special promotion service done for Thanksgiving (a shampoo and a blow out). I came here from out of town, traveling to see family. I wanted to say that Tavish made me feel accepted, taken care of, and I felt very confident in his technical abilities. He obviously had a lot of practice using hot tools and you could tell he took his practice seriously and spent lots of free time understanding more in depth information about cosmetology. Thanks so much for the wonderful customer service and making my hair done up with a very cute look. 💝

She gave me an amazing moisturizing treatment and put just the right amount of texturizing in the cut. My hair looks good, thanks to her creativity and artistic skills!

Aveda institute Portland has provided me with one of the best experiences I’ve had at any salon/spa ever. Alexis G, the student who worked on my service, was professional and inviting. She offered a beverage at the beginning of the visit. I was able to sample some of the delicious tea they offer for sale. Alexis also made sure I left satisfied. I will definitely reschedule with Alexis and I would absolutely recommend visiting Aveda to anyone who is looking for quality service with a palatable price.

They dont seem to have any qualms canceling your appointment less than an hour beforehand because this has happened to us twice now. Apparently the student went home early, and no one was available to cover the appointment. Although the prices are good, everyone already knows to temper their expectations since the students are still learning their craft, but everyone should also be prepared to make other plans and definitely not coordinate their day too rigidly around the appointment itself.

I have gone twice to the Aveda Institute Portland for a haircut in the last 8 months and both experiences have been really positive. My stylists were interested and engaged and thoughtful in their approach, listened to what I said I wanted (even when I said I wasnt sure beyond having some length cut off!) and both times I came away with really great cuts. The value cant be beat!

The service you get is excellent and the students are wonderful. They listen and care about what you wanted done. The advice I get for hair care and color is much needed for a healthy hair.

I was able to get a service done here by Shannon the other week - including a facial and waxing. Her professionalism was very impressive, and I was pleased with all of her treatments. Her educator, Nicole, was extremely hospitable during my visit. Both of them consistently checked in on me to make sure I was given everything I had requested. Professionalism and care exceeded my experiences at other salons. I would definitely recommend others to book here!

Ive had some wonderful experiences at the Aveda Institute! I get my hair colored here, and will occasionally have bang trims done here in between appointments with my regular hair stylist. The student I see currently is Dede, and shes been one of the best Ive worked with. Dede is not only excellent and efficient in her work, she is personally delightful to work with. She is sweet, friendly, professional, and demonstrates care for/interest in her clients. Ive also seen Cynthia here, and shes equally as wonderful! I see both Cynthia and Dede and usually go with whomevers schedule aligns best with mine in a given week. Ill miss them both when they graduate!

When I finally (after waiting 40 minutes) was assigned a stylist, she did an excellent job following the instructors guidance on coloring my hair. It looks great and Ive had several compliments. The organization of the Institute could use some improvement. After waiting 20 minutes someone told me that they couldnt find the stylist that had originally been assigned to me. They tried to locate a 2nd stylist, to no avail. The 3rd stylist was professional, had a good sense of humor, and did a great job. Note: It will always take longer at the Institute due to the stylist looking for towels, finding instructors (2-3 times) during the process...so if youve got plenty of time, give them a try. On a tight schedule, go elsewhere.

I had a haircut with Gabrielle and she was very nice! She listened to what I want carefully and took her time cutting my hair. The check-in was very easy at the beginning, they even gave me a hot tea while waiting. Overall it was a great haircut at a great price!

Request to see Hunter Mae! She’s so professional, a true artist. She takes great pride in her work and it shows. You’ll leave her chair feeling BEAUTIFUL. She’s cut and colored my hair multiple times, I always love. She’s also wonderful with children!

He is one of the sweetest and most intuitive stylist I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I’m an ex-Cosmetologist so that’s saying a lot! Had a manicure and pedicure with Natalie S. She was great! I only gave 3 stars because I have noticed the quality of their paraffin dip and files really have gone down in recent years. I get the need to cut costs but I used to associate quality with Aveda but no longer. I wonder if Aveda knows this franchise is not up to standards regarding tools?

Ive been going here for a while now for the reasonably priced Aveda treatments. Haircuts for $12? Sign me up. People always forget that they offer facials as well. All of them count toward the loyalty card, which is rad bc after 3 you get a haircut or facial for free! Students are generally pretty good at cutting hair and will call on instructors for help. Always feel like a goddess walking out.

I am having such an enjoyable time here getting my hair done. Colors are very reasonably priced, and with my mess of a self-dyed hair job, they are doing their best to give me as close to what I want with what I came in with. Its even better when your stylist is your best friend! Riley Goff is amazing at what she does and is treating me and my hair right.

So far Aveda has been amazing. Everyone wants to make sure you succeed here. If you are wanting to be a stylist, I highly recommend it here. It will be tough, but it is worth the hard work. The instructors are always available to help. I have to make a shout out for Jeremiah. He is probably my favorite instructor. He makes sure we understand what is going on. He is always showing us new techniques and great at coaching us.

Horrendous. My wife scheduled an appt and when she showed up they said their students had gone home and her appt was cancelled. They offered a free haircut if shed come back the next week. She showed up for the second attempt and they cancelled again. Apparently students cant be bothered to keep commitments. What kind of nonsense is that?

I am a hair cutting student at Aveda Institute. Jeremiah West is my instructor. He is an amazing instructor. He is patient and kind and eager to teach his students. His teaching methods are effective in making sure we understand information that tends to be boring and dry. He balances the time effectively between practical and hands on. He uses constructive criticism - always pointing out our strong points on the haircuts and also where we can improve it and make it better. He believes in his students, and it shows in his attitude and in how he teaches. Sometimes when a student tries something new, they dont always believe in themselves and they begin to question why they are pursuing this passion. It helps when you have an instructor who does believe in you. Jeremiah, I believe, is passionate about hair sculpting and styling too. That is reflected on how an instructor teaches and presents the curriculum. I think that is also why he is such an amazing instructor. He teaches about something he may enjoy doing.

Second time that I drove 30 minutes, paid for parking, and a no show student left me without anyone to color my hair.This was 115pm and no courtesy call made to let me know the problem.Would not recommend that anyone come as chances are, a problem of a student o showing.Have another Aveda salon as the product is excellent, the organization needs to regroup and discover the phenomenon of customer service.
