As a lifelong practitioner of the martial arts and as a former martial arts instructor, including to children, I give Key Martial Arts my highest recommendation. Matt has synthesized traditional martial arts, weapons-based systems, grappling, and ground fighting into an effective system, combining those with rigorous physical conditioning and character training. While firmly rooted in traditional practices, the applications have been updated to appeal to modern sensibilities, remaining engaging without losing effectiveness.Key Martial Arts is especially good for children of any age. Matts energy and enthusiasm inspire the children. Matt adapts his approach to each childs personality, including special needs, letting each child advance at their own pace. Matt has developed a highly effective cadre of instructors, many of them teens and young adults who have grown in the dojo and learned by their senseis example, helping to make the training fun and effective for the students. My son is on the autism spectrum and, though initially reluctant to train, he quickly fell in love with the dojo and thrived in its atmosphere. We have since moved to Texas, but he still talks about Key Martial Arts, the friends he made there, and Sensei Matt. Any time we travel through Southern California we make time to visit the dojo. Matt made a positive impact on my son that will last through his life.Key Martial Arts also supports fun events such as pizza parties, Nerf gun nights, and martial arts themed birthday parties. All of these help to build a sense of community and family among the members of the dojo.Having had the opportunity to train at Key Martial Arts myself, I know that the training is no less effective for adults. Though the games that appeal to younger children arent used, Matt adapts to each students unique abilities and needs. If we still lived in the area, I would be training at Key Martial Arts.I have a great deal of respect for Matt as a practitioner and instructor of the martial arts. He treats his students with respect and concern, motivating them to work hard and to become better at anything they pursue in life.

There is no better place in Oceanside. There are so many great things about Key Martial Arts. My son loves the classes and his teachers. Mrs Sensei is always encouraging him and provided that extra attention he needs on the obstacles. Sensei makes sure that he is always giving 100%. I love the personal care the show everyone from daily chit chat to one on one needed conversations with the teachers. The place is always clean, staff is always friendly and the prices are competitive. Five stars is not enough.

I looked in this area for a good fit for our family. With a wide range of class times and competitive pricing, Key Martial Arts was the best fit.The Little Dragons class was perfect for my 4yo. Sensei Matt and his assistants do a fantastic job of keeping the kids focused and motivated. My son loves that he gets a stripe on his belt every class and the patches he has been earning. It really helps him to try his best.Come try a free class and see if Key Martial Arts is a good fit for you and your family.

I cant say enough about this Dojo!! While it started out just for my middle son, all 3 of my children now do Karate! Mr. And Mrs. Sensei are both wonderful! My 10 year old daughter has learned so many leadership skills and both my sons, 8 and 5 are better disciplined due to karate. Key Martial Arts is the best decision we made for their extra curricular activities!!

We would give more than 5 stars if allowed. Sensei and Mrs. Sensei are the two BEST instructors around. They are the MOST patience and accommodating people. Our kids just loved them and never wanted to leave their classes. There will be NO hesitation to enroll your children. Convenient location, many schedule options and fair prices! Thank you!

Best thing about Key Martial Arts is Mr. and Mrs. Sensei! They make you feel like you are part of the family whether in or out of the facility. All the kids just love them both. The teen assistant is a hit or miss in and out of classes. Definitely not the right person for teaching kids based on many parent assessments, but might be a good helper with bare basics. This place could use another adult on busy days. We would try it again if back in the area.

My husband and one of my best friends (and his children) are members of this dojo. As a family member and friend, I have been warmly treated when I visit and bring our 7 month old twins. This is a family run business and the dedication toward both professionalism and mentorship is evident in the way both adult and child classes are run. With a background in teaching, I am especially impressed with the senseis approach toward instilling responsibility and accountability in children. Keep up the great work.

We have been going to Key Martial Arts for some time now and we are just impressed with the recent changes to the classes. The new leaders Maxson and Katelynn are amazing with the Sensies and the kids. Their energy and smiles are contagious. We love the example of respect these kids are providing to their peers. Great job all around! Try a class today your kids will love it!

Key Martial Arts is a life saver for my family and I. Our son has transformed into a more focused, less aggressive, and less fearful child. Originally, our plan was to have him in karate between sports, but that has since changes... he is on the journey to becoming a black belt.

My grandchild attends Key Martial Arts and loves it! Both Sensei and Mrs. Sensei are great role models for young children. The Sensei is always firm yet fair with the children to instill that discipline they need. Mrs. Sensei is always kind and gentle with the children to show them that confidence they have in each child. They treat everyone like family always addressing everyone with a smile and sincerity. What a great duo! What a great experience for all! I urge everyone to check out a class you will be happy you did.

The three classes a week I take at Key Martial Arts are some of the best hours of my week! My husband and I went looking for a martial arts program for our boys (ages 8, 6, and 2), and he convinced me that it would be better if we took karate as a family. OK, I was skeptical. I am almost 40, have allowed myself to slip into bad shape, and I really (I mean really) hate to work out. I took Tae Kwon Do back in my 20s, and liked it well enough, but that was a long time ago, and I was in way better shape. Not to mention I already felt so over committed how in the world was I going to fit yet another thing into my schedule? And would I be able to enjoy the monotony of doing the same thing, over and over, week after week? I am so glad I let my hubby talk me into taking classes, because I could not have been more wrong! From the first class I knew this was going to be different. Sensei Matt is a phenomenal instructor. No two classes are ever the same, I get a fantastic workout each time, and to top it off it is so much fun! No kidding, I feel like a little kid getting let out for recess each time I go to class. While we repeat the skills we learn over and over, Sensei Matt utilizes so many different teaching methods that it never, ever seems monotonous. And I am constantly improving. I have learned more in just 1 month at Key than I learned in one year taking Tae Kwon Do. Im not just learning a bunch of punches and kicks that I perform in the air with no idea about how to apply them or why Im even doing them. Sensei Matt weaves in history, anatomy, physics, and real life scenarios to bring it all together. (Not to mention, he is a really, really nice guy. I never feel intimidated or self conscious, because he provides instruction without being critical.) And I never feel as if attending class is an imposition. In fact, I would be very cranky if I had to miss a day. I am totally able to clear my mind and let the stress of the day just go away. It is therapy for the body and mind. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the kids. They are doing great! Their skills are improving every day, and my husband and I really appreciate the lessons about discipline, responsibility, accountability, and respect that Sensei Matt incorporates into every class. Our two-year-old is still watching from the sidelines, but even he enjoys coming to the dojo to watch Mom and Dad or his big brothers. We plan to start him in lessons as soon as he is ready. I cannot rave enough about Key Martial Art for adults and kids!
