Well the school is alright. The academics and the teachers are the best. To be honest there are great people here. No one is almost ever left out and people feel comfortable. At least I do. Not everyone is nice because our school isnt perfect. But it is a great a school for the arts. There are a lot of events and activities that help a student learn and practice their art.

Not as good as I thought. Students can re-take tests and assignments so they dont put the effort needed to do well on the first try. The principal loves to meet with sponsors but when parents need to speak to him he is always busy. There are some good teachers but many of them lack experience and dont teach the material thoroughly so students dont do well on the state exams. Most of the negative reviews have been deleted.

To be honest, the school wasn’t how I expected it to be. As a student, I feel like I haven’t really learned much at this school. It is just to stressful and the amount of homework that I get is unbelievable. The students are not very friendly, so if you are new like me, you might not have a good time fitting in. At least I get to practice my art and do what I love

I have only been at this school for around two quarters, and yet I am already at home here. First of all, Id like to address a common misconception about arts schools. It does not mean the academics are poor. In fact, the academics, when competent teachers are involved, are stellar! The only difference is that the electives are very creative and are taught by skilled professionals. Furthermore, when students show academic promise, they may be recommended for a more advanced study. I am absolutely in love with the ideologies and practices of the teachers of this school, aside from the ones involved in the recent controversy. The only cons I have are mostly associated with the poor administration and lack of parent-to-administration contact. I would like a PTA so there might be more of a correspondence between the teachers and the staff. Also, the principal in his current state is less mature than the majority of the students and is not fit to be in charge. Some of the dress code policies are simply ridiculous, but still the good out ways the bad.

This school is very convenient, and purely excellent. I would appreciate it if the teachers were a bit more intact with the students parents such as grades, conferences, ect. But on the other hand, this is an amazing school.

Miami arts charter is an excellent school when it comes to the arts. Many of my classmates and I have improved immensely in our art but, taking there regular classes is difficult. All of their classes are advanced and it really stressed me out in 6th grade. I ended up getting low grades and it prevented me from attending the only feild trip of the school year. Another thing is that some of their teachers are very strict and arent very nice to students. I have always stayed out of trouble and have been a hard worker for school. I always try and some teachers tell me that I wasnt working to full capacity and could have done better. Other than that the way they teach art is extraordinary and I truly hope they improve.

It’s really sad what’s happened to Miami Arts Charter School in Homestead (MAC) and perhaps anyone considering MAC Wynwood should know what’s currently happening in the Homestead Campus. The once loving, supportive and accepting environment has turned into a prisoner of war camp, where security and police stalk the hallways and randomly walk into classrooms. The senior assistant principal is walking around with a personal police body guard, the junior assistant principal has been demoted to a teacher in order to replace a teacher who was fired because he made a DCF complaint about the owner, and the activities director is the comandante of the war camp, who patrols the hallways barking at students and teachers alike, despite not having a degree, certification, or even a pleasant demeanor.Students are now being escorted around the building in an aura of distrust and paranoia. This police state is completely unnecessary and the result of someone’s over active imagination. The poor students are constantly intimidated and harassed by the administration and their poor decisions; no one is considering the best interest of the students. As state and AP testing has been ongoing in this turbulent and oppressive environment, students are scrambling to find schools for next year in the late notice provided from the school. The schools justification for this is, “we could have closed in the summer and not tell anyone.” The leadership of the school has not had a single meeting with the student body of this closure. There’s been no effort on the part of the owner to speak to students displaced by this closure; if the owner is there, he is hiding in his office with the police officer at the corner of the hallway. The overall tone of the administration is one of embarrassment but defiance. The students are blamed because, “we didn’t invite our friends to grow the school’s enrollment,” and the teachers are being blamed because they didn’t promote the school enough in the community. The only ones not accepting blame for this is the owner, Alfred de la Rosa.Despite having 5 years to secure the future of this school, Mr. de la Rosa’s negligible efforts have resulted in a flat enrollment with virtually no growth. No marketing efforts could have negated the fact that the band had no instruments to play and that the phenomenally Best dance teacher was fired to make room for a 22 year old MAC alumni with no teaching experience. Nor the fact that academic teachers had neither resources nor curriculums to use to teach. And this is what we told our friends about our experience at MAC, “we love the environment, we love the teachers, but no money was spent on the school.” This continued after the announcement of the closure of the school was made when most activities were cancelled, administrators refused to refund money that was raised by fundraising efforts of the dance, band, visual arts, theatre, creative writing, and chorus departments for next year, knowing that there wouldn’t be a next year. We’ve been told that these monies would be transferred to Wynwood, funds that had been raised by clubs and grade levels. This treatment has led many students and parents to believe that the Homestead Campus only served as a debit card to fund de la Rosa’s Wynwood addiction. As a final insult, teachers have been instructed to teach until the last day of school, yet are required to remove all of their possessions by Wednesday and pack up their books. Likewise, the IT guy is scheduled to remove all the technology, TV’s, computers and networking equipment, so how are teachers going to teach with no resources and how are students going to learn with no teachers being able to teach?Students are likewise forbidden to bringing backpacks to campus, so students are going to be required to come to school to sit in a bare classroom, with no material for 8 hours a day. This could be defined as cruel and unusual punishment, which my history teacher at MAC assured me is a violation of the constitution.Future Lawyer

I had extremely high expectations for this school and being completely honest it wasnt really anything near what i had hopes for. The kids are extremely rude but im sure that it will be the same at any other school. Some teachers are amazing but others dont do their job and they also dont know much about the topic they teach! Most of them do but not all of them. The school doesnt care. Most of the teachers dont have a passion for teaching which is such a bad influence on the students. Most teachers are only there for the money and they admit it. At previous school i wanted to learn and come to school everyday but since i have come here i have been getting at least 2 Bs every grading period. Along with that this school is very inappropriate. I wont go into full detail in that, lets just say it makes me feel uncomfortable and teaches me certain things that i SHOULD NOT know. Another thing about this school that makes me feel uncomfortable is how unsafe it is. The gates are always open and we have PE in the garage. Kids escape all the time and people dont do anything about our coach is always on the phone and the security guards are always asleep. Once, a kid escaped and brought a friend of hers back, when she got back they were both vaping! There are other kids that commit suicide, and everyone is cutting themselves, its a terrible and extremely negative atmosphere. The next reason why i dont recommend this school is that the principal doesnt care all that much. I once had a report that i had addressed to the school (they have no counsulor) and they never tried to fix the situation. Every day i would go to the office and they were always busy. Therefore, the solution never solved the problem so i had to go to the cops and i was in a very unsafe position. Mind you the person who caused the mess, has gotten into so many fights with kids its insane and unbearable. The only thing i like about this school is the diversity of culture and certain teachers like Mrs. Gordon, Mr. Sanchez and Mr. Moreno

This school is very unfriendly. You are never able to speak to a person without going through emails first. I’ve never met the principle or teachers except on the initial parents night at beginning of school. M second child has not been accepted 2 years in a row. So there is no sibling advantage.
