I delivered my son here at Loyola, the nurses in the Labor and delivery department were 5/5 stars! Very wonderful and great bedside manners. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! The next part of my review should not discredit the nurses from Labor and delivery.Everything was great until I transferred to the postpartum ward. Ehh, I wasn’t happy with the care I received. I had a total of 4 nurses in the postpartum ward. I only liked 1 of them. The other 3, shouldn’t be working in the postpartum ward. One nurse said, “if I didn’t correctly breastfeed my baby, I would not be allowed to take my baby home.” Very stressful! I would like to say, FED IS BEST! Nurses shouldn’t pressure anyone to breastfeed. Not only that, I had no help from nurses but would get scolded at. The trash was filling up so bad, i had to change both trash myself. Just felt so dirty in an unclean room.I do like Loyola as a hospital, amazing nurses and doctors. Despite the bad reviews on their emergency department. I feel the opposite. Top notch emergency department. There is a long wait, though. Exceptional service, nonetheless. I just wouldn’t recommend the postpartum care at Loyola.

I feel like those who excel need to be recognized. I worked with Sergio in the Loyola Billing Dept and he was so helpful. What I respected the most is he gave me the chance to explain the situation and he dedicated our call to resolving and finding the answers. Exceptional customer service was provided. His manager was busy at the time of our call or I would have verbally commended him. He truly is a great asset to Loyola and should truly be rewarded for his stellar service.

Went in to the emergency room. My appendix almost bursted. I was in extreme pain. Waited 13 hours, nurses did not care. I was crying and screaming in pain. Not to mention everything was a mess in the waiting room. Floors were very dirty and chairs as well. Covid is definitely around here. With no cleaning techniques. They didn’t even give me any medication for my pain. Nothing. I had to go to another hospital. They will not care if you die ! Bathrooms were extremely horribly dirty with even poop around the walls.

My mother was air lifted to Loyola from Indiana. Not by our choice. If it was up to me and my family we would keep her in Indiana. My elderly father was there, I traveled 2 hours to bring clothes to my father and the nurses told him I could see her. When I got there the front desk staff was so rude, no compassion, no HELP!Coming from Healthcare myself, we are taught firm, but compassion. I understand there are rules but when I am crying and told to get out. I was trying to explain I think there has been miscommunication can you help me.No compassion, no feeling of hope.If I could I would only give 1 star, but I am giving 3 stars. The nurses seem compassionate and do what they can to help my mother. But if it was up to me I wish my mother could be in a hospital in Indiana.

I couldnt be sadder with my C-Section experience on 07/30. I delivered at Loyola 8 years ago so I thought wed receive the same treatment as back then, however, that was not the case. Lets start w/ the fact that I wasnt COVID tested until AFTER surgery. I was not given the opportunity for skin to skin contact or to even see her once taken out. I didnt meet her until hours after delivery. My spouse wasnt given the opportunity for skin to skin contact when he went back to the room with her and she wasnt given a bath until 30 minutes before we were discharged because we asked for one. At discharge I wasnt given anything to confirm her birth for my employer even though I asked and I was not provided any assistance on how to acquire a breast Pump even though my insurance covers it. I understand this review may seem harsh but this is my last child and I was deprived of moments and assistance that Ill never get back. I do want to take a moment to thank Nurse Theresa who helped me in the OR when I had to get stuck twice after the first spinal block was a fail probably bcuz the studentwas roughly pushing the monitor on my stomach while a needle was being threaded through my back. Also, thank you Agata who treated me with so much compassion and care. These two seem to be the only ones who still love patients and treat them like people. Dont risk losing out on once in a lifetime experiences while having your child look to another facility.

I had an unexpected stay at Loyola for about a week and cannot say enough about the wonderful care and compassion I received from every nurse, every doctor, every tech. I feel I received the best, most comprehensive care and left confident in the treatment plan made by my entire team of doctors, from cardiology to pulmonology to gastroenterology. The nurses were so kind, so attentive, day and night. The doctors themselves were in my room every day with updates, shifts in treatment, recommendations and to share my test results with me. They were patient and answered every question I had. I was very impressed with the entire team and very glad that it where I landed given the help that I needed! Shout out to the entire team in 3SE AND THANK YOU for taking such good care of me.

It is a Thursday night at 9:30 and I was with a friend who experienced a bad fall. Could not stand on her own at all and in serious pain. So to start off I couldnt get into the ER parking lot because the gate wouldnt go up. Finally someone comes and raises it. Then she is left on a gurney in the hall. For hours. She didnt get x-rayed until midnight and when I checked on her at 7am she was still waiting for someone to come and put a brace on her leg!!!! 10 hours!!!!! This isnt about the nurses/doctors. It is about the sorry way it operates. Whos in charge and do they even care??? You would never see this kind of disorder at Edwards-Elmhurst.

This is the second time I was told to reschedule with a different doctor. The fist time it was a dermatology appointment I went to a different provider. I am contemplating leaving loyola altogether. I never had these issues with Advocate, I stopped going to them because I relocated. I am wondering is it worth the extra travel time. I was told I cannot see my doctor 2 days before my appointment, that I made weeks ago. Also they added my initail to my charts, etc without my permission out of the blue. I tried to get it removed. I will try to avoid going to the Maywood location only because I find it absolutely repugnant and despicable that they have the audacity and nerve to charge for parking. Loyola at Maywood should be ashamed of themselves for asking more money for parking from people who are sick and have enough troubles as it is and now you want to add more trouble and stress for parking!! I don’t know any hospital or medical center that does this kinda thing! So for that I took away one star because that is my only complaint so far with the Maywood location. What a MESS! That is the only way to describe this emergency room. I have been in a lot of emergency rooms in my lifetime and have never seen anything as bad as this! We went here because the person I was with has a health plan connected to this hospital. What happened to covid protocols? They sure were not practicing any in this waiting room, where almost every seat, even the ones meant for social distancing were filled. But that wasnt even the biggest problem I have with this place. They are VERY unorganized during of the check in process and in fact, the triage nurse completely FORGOT ABOUT US AND LATER APOLOGIZED after we sat there for 4 hours before finally asking what was going on. (The security guards run interception for the receptionist--who tell you to ask a triage nurse when you will be called next.) After nearly FIVE hours of waiting we were finally called to the back and everybody in that area was extremely nice but clearly overwhelmed. Everyone was rushing in and out of room..and onto the next emergency before having a chance to fully explain test results and options. I saw FIVE UNIFORMED MAYWOOD POLICE OFFICERS in the ER area because there were people under arrest and being treated. This is a level 2 Trauma Unit and this is where they take victims with gunshot wounds and stabbings among other areas of need. I get it...they are busy. But hospital administration needs to do better by these doctors. They seem to put up with so much of your inability to create a good work environment. The facilities are outdated as well. No wonder doctors here are overwhelmed. I wonder how much money this hospital is making off of Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance??? Come on, you have got to do better for the doctors and public!!!! I tell you, you are better off going to Cook County Stroger hospital for better service. No joke.

0 stars if possible. I was admitted not too long ago. The nurses on my floor were nice, but could’ve been more attentive. The food was standard hospital fare. Now, I was supposed to have an MRI done that night. I waited and kept asking the nurse, but she had no idea when they’d take me. They took me overnight around 2:45am. I get there and this lady was VERY RUDE and didn’t even look like she worked there. And whatever scent she had on like strong perfume or skin lotion really irritated me. I think her name was Sonya or Sondra, I can’t remember. Anyway, I told her I was somewhat claustrophobic, but I wanted to get it over with. She immediately said along the lines of, “...sir you can’t do this exam. I’m sending you back up”. I asked if there’s a nurse but she’s said in this annoyed toned, “she’s at lunch”. She then put me in this dark room around the corner where I waited for someone to take me back up. I noticed on my way out she was just sitting there on her phone and food near her computer. I got back to the unit and told the nurse what happened. She said she would tell the team. I met the team and they said I should’ve undergone the MRI and didn’t understand why that person acted like that or why my overnight nurse wasn’t contacted to get me something for claustrophobia. They ended up discharging me and giving me an order for an Open MRI. I mean, it’s bad enough I had to woken up in the middle of the night. But it’s another thing when you encounter people who don’t want to do their job. And again, I don’t know if that person even worked there with the attire she was wearing. I hope I don’t ever have to go back to the hospital. If I do, it will not be Loyola.

This review is specifically for nurse Jen from neuro ICU who works 1st shift. My father in law unfortunately died after 2 week fight in their Neuro ICU department. First several days after a surgery he was recovering very well but eventually his health deteriorated and eventually passed away. For majority of his stay all nurses and doctors were extremely helpful and provided us with updates over the phone and allowed us to do daily zoom calls with my father in law to keep his spirit up. In person visitations were not permitted due to COVID. Unfortunately there was one nurse who was very problematic, difficult and just a very bad person and her name was either Jen or Jenn and she worked 1st shift. Whenever she was assigned to take care of my father in law we could not get any update from her and were never able to set up zoom calls with her. On one occasion she declined to setup zoom call stating that the patient is sleeping now which eventually turned out to be a lie. When i told her that i wanted to see him on video call just for few seconds to make sure he is sleeping and resting well she declined and said that she is too busy. This lady was lacking any compassion and understanding of the situation. We knew that we most likely have hours or days left with our father in law being among us and this is the treatment that we got from her. My wife spoke about this incident days later with one of the attending doctors and he admitted that they have had multiple problems with her over the years and that many families complained about her demeanor. He also admitted that she even goes as far as saying to doctors that she does not want any family members present when she takes care of the patients. The doctor also said that hospital will not do anything about this because she has been employed there for a very long time. Hope someone from LOYOLA sees this and does something to correct this nurses behavior.

This hospital has changed over the years.. my mom has been going there since 2012. That was the year the hospital was GREAT. And a few years that followed. Now I believe since Covid many doctors that have been there for many years are leaving and they’re hiring young unexperienced doctors.Over the last few months my mom has been in and out of that hospital quite often. She’s a known GI bleeder. In November she was diagnosed with scleroderma (which doesn’t appear over night). She had the GI bleeds (common with scleroderma) very itchy skin (they referred her to a dermatologist that prescribed ointment) and bluish finger tips (also common with scleroderma). Over the years, scleroderma doesn’t get better, it can effect organs and in my moms case it’s her lungs. Which just started around November. They finally did bloodwork to check for an autoimmune disease and found it to be scleroderma. She’s now on oxygen. Scaring of the lungs. I called an ambulance because she was having a tougher time breathing and upon arrival at the ER they said her hemoglobin was 6.3 and had pneumonia in 1 lung. The ER doctor also said she had a blood clot that dislodged from her pacemaker wire and may have traveled to the lung but it was small. Upon being admitted, there was no reports in the computer of a potential blood clot the ER doctor said. The GI doctor (pregnant woman) and said we can’t be bringing my mom to the hospital every time she has a GI bleed, we need to call her primary doctor (GI doctor VERY unprofessional). I told her we didn’t know she had a GI bleed. We sent her there for her breathing. She’s now admitted and breathing has gotten worse that she skipped her breakfast because she was so short of breath. They had her on 3 liters of oxygen. Her roommate told her she has to eat because she was also going to skip lunch. I informed the nurse that her oxygen needs to be put to at least 5 or 6 and she’s good, she can eat. She can talk on the phone etc.. her doctor that’s taking care of her, Dr. Neerja Joshi told me she’s been having breathing treatments and I called and asked the nurse when her last breathing treatment was, she replied “it’s been years!” So the doctor is a liar. A doctor called me yesterday from pulmonary and said she’ll have ALL tests done before leaving the hospital (ct with contrast and whatever tests needed) so once results come back she can get medication for her scleroderma. You get different answers from different doctors every single time you talk to someone.Loyola Hospital- you definitely went down the tubes. Once was one of the TOP hospitals has now become another St. Anthony hospital on 21st and California. So sad

Relatively decent sized campus in a suburban part of Chicago. Easy to find, with parking garages for inside and outside parking. Most parking is not free forever and there is no street parking available. Some of the campus is connected by tunnels so person could walk from one side of the campus to another without difficulty. Staff was nice and helpful, they tried to keep the wait time within reason. Clean and beautiful from the inside, most of the places inside look really renovated. If you had to go to a hospital, it would definitely be one of the better choices around.

I visited twice and lets say this is the biggest mistake Ive ever made. The doctor was always in hurry, they did not give me any valuable information, and I never received a call back form the doctor explaining my test results. I was put on hold for an hour and at the end they told me that the doctor is still busy and that they unfortunately have to hang up.On my second visit the doctor performed a genealogical exam and told me everything was fine (it took her less than 2 minutes). I went to another hospital and they gave me a proper exam, even showed me what problems I had on a TV screen. I guess they just lack the technology and the doctors are not as experienced as doctors in other hospitals. They also had a problem with my insurance and harassed me for a month to pay the whole amount out of pocket. I was declined an assistance. Needless to say I would never go there again. Beware of this place.

My experience is with the Kidney Transplant department. Im so grateful for the excellent job done by the surgeon (a woman, even better!) on both my surgery to remove my kidney and the one to put it in my daughter. The nephrologists and the rest of the department are all also great and their team approach gives you a secure feeling that things arent falling through the cracks. Nothing seemed like something they dont already have a process for. The donor team nurses are so sweet and thoughtful. Feel comfortable going to Loyola for your kidney transplant. They really did a great job for us. Im just so grateful! There is no perfect institution. Of course Ive had a few long waits or other inconveniences. But those are par for the course of human life! We werent too excited at first because of reviews, but Im glad we went anyway. Saved my daughters life. No regrets or complaints!

Avoid this hospital. My husband was sent here by our local hospital to their Burn Unit on June 25th. It was a terrible experience, not only from the trauma of the burn, but the outrageous hospital policies and lack of competence as well. He was not informed of what tests were being performed, or why they were performed. We believe unnecessary testing was performed on him. They scheduled a follow up visit after his discharge for the following Thursday. They told us that if he did not receive a phone call regarding the time of his appointment, for us to call them on Tuesday for the time. Both of us literally called all day. We were told someone would call us back, they did not. We called on Wednesday and left several messages. No one got back to us again. Then someone called the following Monday and said that they were not open Thursday or Friday due to the holiday. She said she was not sure why someone would tell us that. The no visitor policy is ridiculous. We live an hour and 20 minutes away, so I drove up there to bring him his things. I was not allowed to even see him for a minute. He was not allowed to go down in the lobby to see me to even get his things. Yet, he had to share a room with a complete stranger. The University of Chicago has a visitor policy that allows one person with the patient. I really wish that the trauma of this event didnt cloud my judgement and my decision making skills, because I absolutely would have questioned this and sent him to a more reputable hospital. This hospital is a joke. Please explore other options.

Even after long stressful hours they found time and energy to show compassion and patience to deal with my frustrated self. After multiple visits i see the same composure in the staff. I will always turn to Loyola medicine in my time of need! THANK YOU!

I saw Dr. Leonetti on referral from my ENT. Dr. Leonetti was wonderful, hes doing surgery on my ear in December. He was very friendly, personable and took plenty of time to explain the procedure and answer questions. I was back in an exam room and being seen within 10 minutes of arriving. Couldnt be more pleased, hopefully my surgery goes just as well.

Usually have a good experience compared to other hospitals and clinics. The ER can be a very long wait unfortunately just like most. DR. David Snow is one of the best Ive had the pleasure of being seen by. Very knowledgeable and spot on with his diagnosis despite a very complicated set of symptoms I was experiencing. His bedside manner is among the best Ive seen in recent years too. Very kind and compassionate Dr. (as it should always be for the average patient).

Worst hospital ever - my father had Parotid cancer and was operated on by Dr Borrowdale ( Rude and incompetent doctor ) he was disfigured and had severe nerve damage along with the cancer coming back immediately after radiation. He was hospitalized for over a month after the surgery (4 days max recoup time) he had parkinsons and the utter lack of knowledge at that hospital was very frightening. He was intubated 3 times and had severe hallucinations because meds were given incorrectly and wrong meds given. Would rather take my chances at a army medic tent in battle then EVER go to this hospital for any care what so ever

Went to ER 2/24/20 at 6 pm for horrible back pain, couldnt even stand up or sit. I had to call an ambulance. Waited for 8 hours, until 2 am. So many people had been waiting for 10 hours and decided to leave. I have worked in many business in my life, from restaurants to airport to remodeling etc. I have never seen such a level of incompetence as I have seen in this ER in my life. Finally left after 8 hours of waiting (got a ride to Gotlieb) after seeing them keep taking people who got there way after me. Do NOT go here if you have an emergency. Aside from one nurse, Karolina, everyone was so rude and didnt give a s*it. At least she tried to talk to those of us who were getting tired of waiting. Asked for the nurse in charge, she never even bothered to come out or send any kind of word to the rest of us. They could have just said they couldnt take patients instead of telling us it would be around 2-4 hours wait and then 8 - 10 hours later still no one saw some of us. Disgusted with this place.

I brought my father since he wasn’t feeling well. They didn’t take that long to call us but then when we go into a room. They just stop caring! We been here waiting for them to take my dad for X-rays and scans, but nothing yet. I saw about two nurse coming in once each time and never saw nobody again. We called for a nurse and they didn’t even show up, but they to busy laughing and chit chatting to themselves about their personal life to even bother to come and check on people. Horrible nursing on their patients. Been here since 10am and now 5pm and still nothing. Nobody has come to check on my dad or anything. This is a horrible as McNeal hospital but then Loyola own that too. So that explains.

This is my ER experience, I will do a separate review for my Labor and Delivery stay. This is lengthy so I do apologize in advance. I just had my baby on 7/18/19 and started having recurrent, high fevers when I came home that Saturday night. I took 600mg Motrin every 6 hrs. But the second it wore of, my fever would spike even higher. so on that Monday afternoon, when my thermometer read 104.6, I decided to go to Loyola’s ER. In triage, I was sweating profusely due to the fever breaking from the medicine. I told the triage nurse my symptoms, including dizziness, loss of appetite, back pain and fever. I told her I was 4 days postpartum and prior to arriving in the ER, I took 600mg Motrin. She took my temp., which read 99.2 and said, “You don’t have a fever.” I repeated that I just took medicine and that it will go back up. She told me that I would be seen in the ED, took the rest of my vitals, and sent me to the waiting room. After having my labs drawn, I waited patiently in the waiting room for over 4 hours as my fever and chills returned. Now I am an ER nurse and one thing my hospital knows is that postpartum patients who present with signs and symptoms of infection needs to be evaluated immediately. After my nearly 5 hour wait, an ER nurse called my name and brought over a wheelchair, stating, “We are going to take you to L&D because your blood pressure is elevated.” This was the blood pressure they took when I first arrived!!! It took them nearly 5 hours to determine that!!! The moment I got to L&D, they re-evaluated me, my temperature 102, heart rate in 120s, blood pressure elevated. They immediately called a rapid response. Working in the ER, I know how challenging it is to determine who needs to be evaluated immediately and who is able to wait, especially when the census is high, which it was that day. However, there is no way a postpartum patient presenting with signs & symptoms of infection should’ve been waiting for as long as I did. Loyola’s triage process really needs to be re-evaluated.

I don’t normally do reviews but I felt it was necessary after my phone call. I sent in my information over the weekend to have someone call me to book an appointment as I’m looking for a Doctor with the insurance that I now have. The doctor I was looking into on their website was accepting new patients. I just got off the phone with one of the rudest receptionist I’ve probably ever talked too. Instead of being helpful she was criticizing that I was going to drive so far to see the doctor I was interested in. She then told me the doctor I wanted to see didn’t have any opening until February. So how is she accepting new patients if she can’t see them for almost 3 months?? I told her I would look elsewhere and her response was ok. I’m just so baffled at how rude and unhelpful she was. Discouraging. If you can’t be helpful and respectful then being a receptionist is not the job for you!

I will not post details on my nephew experience at this hospital because I’m very hopeful this hospital will get better. It’s time for all rooms to be private especially on a Trauma unit where my nephew was at. Coming from someone who’s a Team Lead at a level 1 Trauma hospital. I went in expecting the some level care we give our patients but soon found myself becoming more and more disappointed in his care to the point someone was with him everyday to make sure he received the care he needed So he could get discharged. I’m going to still remain very hopeful for this Hospital because they have some of the most talented Trauma surgeon out there.

After six years of complaining about excruciating, debilitating pelvic pain, over sixty visits ( (including three pain specialists) with twenty four individual imaging procedures, the pain is only getting worse. This isnt to say the staff and nurses dont care. But I had the feeling theyre going through the motions ( Take this RX and see us in 90 days) and passing me along to yet another specialist with no over-arching review to get to the root cause of the pain. Quite frankly, I was suicidal from the pain and laid in bed in the fetal position all day. I expressed my concerns about the delay in finding better treatment to their Patient Relations manager who was very attentive and concerned at first. Then, I believe, he got tired of hearing from me and simply stopped returning my calls. And yet, after I went to a new hospitals pain clinic, they ordered a PELVIC MRI after three visits which revealed a likely lateral and anterosuperior labral tear of the right hip with a possible nerve impingement among other issuesIm dismayed as to why this did not occur to the plethora of MDs and PhDs at Loyola.Perhaps I should take some responsibility and should have insisted on a pelvic MRI earlier, but I now realize I was too passive and depended to the doctors plan too much. This was a mistake. My suggestion would be; if youre in pain or have a chronic issue, do not accept what the specialist has to say ( or prescribe) as gospel. Get a second or third opinion somewhere else
