The lady who did my hair was sweet I got a shampoo and a haircut which was quite nice it was pretty good for that price. Such a chaos in there, I had to wait a bit for clean towels. the facility is nice but could use more cleaning. I brought my kid with me and as soon as I was taken in to start my haircut I was told my child cant be there nowhere does it say you cant bring your kid with you, anyways they made and exception.

This salon is AMAZING! I wish I would’ve known about it a while ago because this is where I will be going for anything hair-related from now on. I got a simple trim and curl, but my stylist was very precise and the nicest person ever! I did not get it colored, but from what I saw around me they do an amazing job with that too. I’ll be back in a few months to get mine colored as well. :)

I came in wanting the red color pictured. My hair was black with past highlight balayge. Otherwise virgin hair. And what i got is also pictured. I think my stylist tried her best with the knowlege she had. The mgr made me pay 50% and tried to make every excuse in the book as to why the bleach didnt take including asking me 3 times if i had tused box dye or if i had a problem with it bleaching before, my medications, birth control, and the products i use. Then said putting toner on it would smooth the color i was there from 9:30am to 4pm and they started adding bleach to my hair around 10:30. It wasnt washed out until 3:30 maybe 3pm. I am supposed to go back and they will try to fix it. I cried in the salon chair because my hair is somewhat fried and i had to go home like this. My stylist said she was instructed not to use foil for the bleaching process. That she was supposed to use saran wrap per her teacher. She also said that she wanted to use 20 vol developer instead of 40 because she didnt want to fry my hair...but i have black hair.

My friend wanted to grab a haircut so we decided to try Sylvain, but let me tell you it was the longest most dragged out process that I have ever experienced. For a few inches off, it took 3 hours. This is ridiculous! I understand this is a learning school, and they need to check their work but 3 HOURS. That is a bit much!! I will not be coming back. This was an absolute waste of time.

This place is excellent, everyone is amicable and helpful. The student that worked on me did a great job, understand that it is a school, so it took slightly longer than a regular salon, but it was half the price, and they have licensed and experienced teachers there to help. I would defiantly recommend it and will be coming back.

This place is the best, the students and teachers are so cool and helpful. The prices are even better, I guess because they are students in training the prices are really good - shampoo and cut for $11 . As I left I noticed they opened a massage and skin care school directly across from the hair school. 30 minute massage for $15 and 55 minute facial for $25 :) I am in heaven and cant wait to try these services. And the space looks really cool. I would highly recommend this place and I will be writing a review after I get my massage and facial .

I had a great experience here! I had Amanda do my hair. She was really cool and my hair turned out exactly how I wanted it!! The instructors were walking around the whole time and checked everything. Paid 11 bucks(plus a tip) for a perfect hair cut. Cant beat that!! Ill definitely be back!

I have been here twice, once I just got a simple cut which was amazing. I saw Skylar Davis . Yesterday, Nov 19, I went in for an OMBRE and cut. They bleached my entire head besides my roots. I paid $79 for them to fry, and completely DESTROY my hair.. I look like Ive been putting horrible products In my hair.Skylar had called and said something to them and they blamed my black box hair dye, which I did 3 months ago which was no longer even visible in my hair. I would not recommend ever going!

Worse place every students are unsupervised because attendants are to busy talking and not paying attention to what they are doing then when you complain the administrator comes out and puts you out. She is a very very rude and unprofessional person. Now I realize you get what you pay for. Not worth it.

Nice place. Scheduled and went with my girlfriend for her first haircut. Not five stars because of their policy of kicking guests into the waiting room. Maybe consider changing that policy.

Great experience! Danielle gave me such a great, short fade. Very precise and patient and a wash was included! I paid $9 for a cut I wouldve spent $15-$20 elsewhere. On top of a skilled haircut, she was super nice and talkative! We talked about life like we were friends for years! I recommend her for a quality cut any day of the week.

Got great and very affordable haircuts for me and my kids! Everyone was polite and friendly. My daughter also got her eyebrows waxed. We were very pleased and are returning today for summer hairdos. You have to remember that it is a school and your haircuts are done by supervised students. They might make some mistakes. You really have to take into account that your good value is balanced by your being a test subject for the students who are midway through their training or almost done. If youre not prepared to accept the potential risk in exchange for getting a very reasonable salon experience, then go somewhere else. I was very pleased, though, and will happily become a repeat customer.

This review is long overdue. I made an appointment during the week for a Saturday. That Saturday I called about 20 minutes before my appointment because I knew I would be late. The lady who answered the phone was really nice and told me it would be no problem they could just push my appointment back by 15 minutes (great, sadly I was still 10 minutes later than that.). When i got there I was greeted and it only took about 10 minutes for my hairdresser to be ready. She was very friendly (I believe her name was Cindy) and she talked the entire time, made me feel really comfortable. After she washed my hair she got assistance from David to straighten it for me. (I am natural and my hair is very thick). I was very satisfied with the results!! I have been natural for about 8 years and have never had my hair straightened. They did an awesome job and I would go back if I didnt cut my hair.

My experience at SMIHA was nothing short of amazing! Everyone I spoke with was so friendly. The students were incredibly knowledgeable and I was honestly so amazed with how talented they are! The space is clean and beautiful. It really feels like a little getaway! If you want to be pampered but dont want to spend high salon prices, this is the place to go! I will definitely be back!

***Manager called me promptly after the pedicures bowls were fixed to apologize sincerely and invited me and my niece to be treated to mani pedis we had originally scheduled. It is refreshing that someone still understands good customer service and is willing to make things right.Have booked pedicures twice with them for myself and my niece and both times they called the day before saying the pedicure bowls broke. The excuse was that they are old and break down frequently, but that is unacceptable for potential clients and the students who do not get the practice needed. The school should invest in the tools these students need to learn their craft. I will not try to book with them again only to be disappointed.

Ive gotten my hair cut here before, and the stylist did a great job - they are VERY thorough, which is great, knowing that these are students who are still perfecting their techniques.I did, however, have a really bad color experience about two years ago - I went to have my hair colored and the right side of my head ended up completely fried/damaged. At this point, its been over two years, and I still have damage on the bottom portion of my hair on that side. I wouldnt recommend going for color at all, since not everyone has a solid grip on what chemicals work on what hair types quite yet.

I have been here twice, and the first time was phenomenal. I saw Veronica (who has since graduated from the program) She did exactly what I wanted and I was very pleased with my cut & color. The 2nd time she wasnt available so I saw someone different. While thinning my hair out, they used the WRONG SCISSORS and took a HUGE chunk out of my hair. My hair on one side is about 2 inches long while the rest of my hair is shoulder length. To make matters worse, the person who did this wasnt even the STUDENT, but was the INSTRUCTOR. Granted, the student should have paid more attention to which scissors she was handing her, but the instructor should have also made sure she had the correct ones in her hand before chopping my hair off. It has been 2 months and my hair is still not grown out. Probably will take another 2-3 more. Thankfully I didnt have to pay for the haircut, but the aggravation wasnt worth it considering haircuts there are $12-$15. Lesson learned.

Got a shampoo, conditioning treatment, and cut with Christina. She was slower than Id like but did a good job. I thought the teacher would be by her side during the entire cut but she only showed up a few times to check it. That was a bit unnerving but everything turned out okay. I would recommend for a trim but prepare 2-3 hrs if youre going in for shampoo, conditioning, and trim.

Licensed cosmetologist and nail tech. Went to scout for new employees and got services done. The students were great but the staff seemed like un-experienced stylists. The leader of the school, Kina Woods was very rude and disrespectful. She humiliated the girl doing my hair and said very demeaning things towards me. The last thing she said was I looked to expensive to be in such a cheap salon. The student cried after she left. It was a shame because the students were great. The staff and the leader of the school were down right awful. I would not suggest going there as a client, OR as a future professional. Tuition is too expensive for the lack of quality education.

I went two days ago and got gel nails, eye brows waxed, and my hair trimmed. I was VERY unhappy about how uneven my eye brows were. As for my nails they came out very lightly and are already chipping, after two days. Lastly, MY HAIR! I asked for a simple trim to get it healthy, they said 1 inch, which I was okay with. However, it turned out so uneven that now I have to go get it fixed which will cost me another 1-2 inches. I dont understand how this happened because two of the teachers checked during my cut. I am very unhappy with my experience.

Services denied because my toddler cried and they said they won’t do her hair if she was goin to cry😡 but any other salon would have never done that... im an assistant at a salon in Boonsboro and we dont turn anyone away... the only reason I didn’t my job do her hair is because they don’t do ethnic hair well...

I give you one star because well i have to give you something. I am a former student of SMIHA and this school is the worst! I completed 600 hours at this school and wish i had stopped when in freshman and went to Regency then. This place taught me nothing when it came to skills but the basic and i mean bare minimum! No mens cuts were ever taught and we never even learned how to use our clippers. In fact our cutting teacher, didnt even know how they properly worked! I learned so much in my first month in freshman class and thought the rest of my experience would continue like this, WRONG! Cutting class was okay and she did a fine job but is not very hands on and that hurt me in learning. The way they teach school is unlike any other school i checked into. While in Freshman class you learn so much and have a wonderful teacher. In Cut and color you learn alot as well. The classes you get after on the floor are just awful! They are taught by whoever is available and they study the class the day before. I was taught alot of classes by students like waxing and facials, most advanced cutting techniques, makeup class, and others. My wig class was taught by someone who knew nothing about wigs and we sat their and read the book had students talk about the types of wigs and then the next 3 hours we watched L.A. Hair on youtube. When i started there were some really good teachers but that changed after 3 months and i saw so many come and go. Some teachers on the floor didnt even know the products at all or how to use the Sylvain Melloul hair cutting methods ( dont even get me started on those!)! Too much drama here and very unprofessional to say the least! Johnathan Melloul is the worst to deal with and him his father Sylvain and Mark Gross are the owners and are NEVER there! So if you need to take something higher than the director bc the one their while I was their did nothing to help they can only be reached by email only or when they visit once every few months! I never even met Sylvain until i had been their 3 months. The school director lost his job for threatening to punch a student on FB! Is this really a school you want to waste 17 grand at? NO!

I think this is the worst school. To charge 18000.00 for a education and when they graduate cant cut hair. This has to be the biggest scam for education I have ever heard.I hope this will get the attention of the school and some of the people looking to pay this ungodly amount.
