People are friendly, if you have any problems they do their absolute best to address the problems. If theres something you need to learn, express your concerns to the they know what they need to work with you on. I would surely recommend coming here for training, and testing. But I do highly recommend study the material they give you dont go looking everywhere else they have all the answers theyre studying so that theyre locked in. Piece of advice though Hands-On is better then sitting back and listening if you feel that you are not ready for the air brake test let them know so that they could work with you on that even if you have to pay for a little bit extra hands on is much better. I shopped around and you wont find better prices nowhere else. And the quality that you get for the price you cant ask for no better. I would definitely stop back in to say hi later on down the road.

Buyer Beware its a school and they do not pay the students to put up with their type of behavior. We pay to go to this horrible place. Yeah its ran like a boot camp. Its a clock hour school. You must get 160 hours to complete the program. Its a fast pace program. My first day i had orientation. I came in with my CDL permit and DOT. Cindy told me my DOT paper work didnt have enough paper work. That slowed me down on day two I spend 2.5 hours at the testing site. Wasted gas and study time. The majority of my class assumed Career Tech would teach or help them get their CDL permit. The rest of day one we just sat around an studied. They gave me my pre-inspection script. The second day after getting another DOT physical. I came in and was studying my pre-inspection paper work. I was told I had to go to the yard. I went outside but the guy that teaches that course was not scheduled until 8 am. So since i wanted to study the paper work i walked back inside. There is a little african american man that helps the students straight line and back the vehicle. He comes in and demands i go outside again so i told him i was waiting for the teacher not the students to teach me. He got a little angry at my reply. I could see he had a little temper. After we got through with our first time doing pre-trip. We were told that we had to go learn how to drive trucks with air brakes. I thought that was too fast. I started to get a little nervous. So I asked that same little man would they be getting in the truck with us. He tells me your not going to tell me how to do my job. He jumps up an has a fit on me and runs to the office to report me. I was perplexed by his behavior. This guy comes out to told me that Julie wanted to speak to me. So I immediately went to the office. She asked what happened and she barely listened to me. She started lying and accusing me she said she asked me to stop talking on my first day in class 3 times. That is not true we had a lot of talkers. I wasnt one of them. The other students are witnesses. Then she tells me she is suspending me from the program.I wouldnt recommend this school. They rushed me to drive that truck. I had just heard one of the students wrecked their truck. Maybe if the little man would get off his butt. Its a school. They suspended that student who wrecked that truck. They stuck him with his class tuition and damages on the truck. They question me when i dont want to drive that truck unassisted. Is this a good policy. If they dont like you they will boot you from camp.I have no behavioral problems. Kevin you go along with your staff of course when they mistreat your students. You are mean and so is your staff. We are not getting paid. I have a right to question foolishness. Kevin your no good. Buyer beware

My schooling experience was awesome. I told Julie the president of Career Tech that I would do a review that I am just getting to complete...lol. In my opinion while there could be more instructors for the sake of a little more truck time I think that the school is ran well and my instructors( Mr. Al, Jimmie, Cody and Dwayne)were all very knowledgeable and prepared us well if we came with the right attitude. Kudos to this team for a job well done. I heard a few complaints(which I won’t mention) that I quickly shut down because we were there to do what I went there to do and that was get my CDL not enjoy a classroom. Please let that team and Driver Solutions team know that I’m sending everyone that I talk to about getting their license you folks direction.P.S. I had a great experience there and appreciate the equipment they had us using because it made the test trucks feel like Cadillacs. You cant judge a a place by the way it looks because first of all your there to learn how to drive tractor trailers not sit in a classroom all day. They have the best trainers teaching you starting with Cody the pretrip trainer who makes it easy to comprehend what you need to know then theres Al who trainers you on the yard maneuvers he might get frustrated but its because some people dont listen to his instructions then theres Jimmy how he does what he does I dont know because I know I wouldnt want to train a bunch of rookie drivers on the road but he does and he helped me out so much about learning how to double clutch and downshift then theres Ken, Cindy, and Dwayne always trying to push you a little harder to get everything you need to get done, done so you can become another successful story. I love all of you and thank you for everything you taught me.

Staff and Trainers 4 stars, everything else 1 star.Pros - Very knowledgeable and experienced Trainers, Cindy is great. Cody really knows his stuff and wants you to pass. Jimmy is cool too. Other students are great and helpful, but sadly its where the pros end and theres a TON of cons.Cons - as someone else said, only the classroom has A/C and you cannot go in there most of the time (apart from the first few days). So you will be sitting in your car running the A/C if you want it or getting eaten by mosquitoes as I was in the building (no doors or A/C). The Break Closet (not room as posted) also has A/C but no chairs. No coffee. No tables to sit down and eat. ONE Toilet. (dont worry, when you flush it, it will look like its plugged and wont flush, but eventually it will lol) I think the newest truck they have must be at least 10 years old, oldest one probably 20 or more and are nothing like the trucks you will actually be driving. You will be learning on a manual (stick) but PAM has automatics. Students (the ones making them money) have to park in the mud pit (bring a 4x4 if you can), and the staff which costs the company money gets the parking spaces on asphalt. There is no clear structure to the program that I saw. I expected at least SOME type of schedule, but there isnt one. Nobody wore masks except Jimmy, so make sure you have a strong immune system. My feeling was they dont spend a penny on cleaning the place or upgrading their trucks or on the infrastructure itself. Lets just say if they have 25 students per month at 6K a head, that is 150K or almost 2 MILLION dollars income per year. Its obvious they arent spending a penny of that on the school itself. And thats not even counting all the outside tests they are giving. So I had to quit today, I had enough (you basically get 3 days to jump ship or youre in it for 6K. Hopefully the owner will read this and get er done and make this become the school it should be. Dont get me wrong, I believe you will pass the CDL test easily if you go here which is the main objective. But you will feel like you are getting your training in a 3rd world country.

People who have good reviews/experience at this school are the ones that do very well & do not require more attention. I was struggling with a yard skill and besides 1 trainer who showed interest in helping me, all others did not have a concern. Even asking for help got me no where, but rudeness. I expressed my concerns over the lack of time provided to practice & how I was having difficulty with the trucks since they are very old /& damaged to the extent that even the driver seat could not be adjusted now this may sound minor but if I cant reach the clutch how can I possibly learn to drive effectively, so that the little practice time available could be beneficial. After being upfront /& direct with the staff they proceeded to be extremely rude //& disrespectful //& then proceed to threaten to drop me from the course if in 17 days I was unable to meet theyre expectations. Another hindering factor is when it rains which was alot durring my course the time lost is not allowed to be made up for. They gave the opportunity to students to retest if they failed the state test for an additional charge of $300 when I failed my test I was not allowed the opportunity even though I was willing to pay the fee. In summary I was not allowed sufficient time to aquire all of the skills needed to pass when other students were allowed up to /5 weeks. Maybe because I advocated for myself I was not allowed in their good graces as other student who were very good were.

An awesome experience. With a change in careers, I decided to become a local commercial driver, but needed the required training to become one - a Commercial Driver’s License Class B. At first, I had trouble locating a Driver’s school that offered class B training on a regular basis, as well as agreed with my schedule. However, then I found the Florida CDL School in Tampa, and spoke to Julie P, the School’s Director. Julie was able put me in training promptly (within 2 weeks on contact). The instructors I came in contact with were very knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and encouraging during my training, and subsequent testing led to obtaining my CDL Class B license. Julie even contacted after I finished passing the test and congratulated me as I prepare to start my next career. I really appreciate the training and encouragement that I received at the Florida CDL School in Tampa and would recommend this to others for CDL training. Thanks again.

On my fourth day here I was called into an office where a man named Ken informed me that I received an incident report from a woman named Kimberly for my behavior. She reported that I didn’t care and was uncooperative. My attendance is perfect, I passed my permit test on my first attempt, I keep to myself and study my pre-trip inspection paperwork in my car everyday—acording to Cindy this is allowed. I also received a passing grade on ‘Straight-Line Backing’ the following day. I tried to explain to Ken that I was unaware that I’d done anything wrong and that I never received a warning of any kind. He said the incident report was my warning and any more problems would result in my expulsion. When I told Ken I didn’t even know who Kimberly was he said it didn’t matter. Whenever Ken saw me afterwards he would jokingly ask in passing if I’m behaving. I’ve concluded that this was a personal attack by someone who simply disliked me for her own reasons. The bigger issue is that neither Julie(the president), Ken, Al, Jimmy or Cindy would hear me out. The worst part is that during orientation the main speaker, Cindy, informed us students that Career Tech is a Christian-based company.

Its kind of run like a boot camp but for a good reason. You gotta take this career seriously peoples lives are at risk. I was in school for 4 weeks didnt know a thing about the industry. John, Al, Cecil, and Antonio are some of the best trainers I have ever been trained by. The tactics may be a little left field but believe me when I say they know what they are talking about, what they are doing. The people complaining about the instructors are yelling, well your going to be yelling at your self when you crash a truck and injure someone. People complaining about the instructors not caring or saying they are not paying attention thats a down right lie. They dont hold your hand at this school you gotta want this! John stayed multiple times after we were suppose to leave with the students who really wanted to learn. I passed my test with flying colors because of this team of trainers I also met some great friends during my short time here. Thank you guys and a job well done!

The training at Career Tech has made me feel more than ready for the truck driving industry. Career Tech has a great job placement program where they sit down with you one-on-one and get a feel for what you really want in a truck driving job and work hard to get as close to that as they can. In completing this program I had already had two job offers to choose from of which I had chosen from several others.I would suggest Career Tech for anyone looking to learn or work as a truck driver.

This school is a dump. No real classes. Only one room has AC and you are locked out of it half the time. The exams they give you are not even real they give you all the answers so it looks better for people on the outside. You must teach your self - there are not enough instructors so you have students trying to teach students and mostly they just joke and play. I am a Christian and they claim to be a Christian school yet all instructors cuss. When a truck breaks down they have no money to buy another truck or fix it. One instructor is gone all the time, one yells constantly yells at students - rude. There is a major trucking company that no longer sends their students here due to these issues. Do not come here!

I began at Career Tech 3 weeks ago and I test tomorrow to obtain my class A CDL. What I can honestly say about this school is they are awesome. All of the trainers are there for you. I was never turned down when I asked for help and advice. I cannot stress how great they are, each one with their own personality. Every one of them are more than competent at their job. They wont rush you and will let you move at your own pace. Class sizes vary but it doesnt typically exceed more than 10 people per class. When I first started I could barely off set back a tractor trailer and never in my wildest dreams would I think I would be able to parallel park a semi. Class goes from 7am to 5pm with a lunch break around noon. They will teach you everything you need to know to begin your career as a truck driver. Pre-trip inspections, straight line backing, drivers side/ blind side off set backing, alley dock backing, drivers side/ blind side parallel, log books, shifting, road trips, they teach you everything with instructors that are patient. Each instructor has their own method of teaching and I never once felt unwelcome. As long as they see that youre trying to learn they will work with you. They are straight up and honest. I would highly recommend any of my family and friends to attend this school.

I completed my course and recieved my CDL within 3.5 weeks of starting, and had a driving job upon graduation.31 Aug 2016 update: I am currently at orientation and training with PAM Transport and find it funny that the trainers here tell everyone that the way you learn log books and a few other things in school will get you a citation on the road. When they started showing us all how to do it these things the right way, I laughed to myself, because it was all exactly the way Bob showed us. About the school in general. At first I felt lost, I can either tell you about the place, the trucks, the instructors, bathrooms, organization, But I was there for a reason and the reason was to obtain my CDL. Now I have completed my 160hrs 40 per week (8 hours/ day) the and I work for it!Before I graduate I got a headache reading and comparing companies, So many! What is the best option? I think I chose what is right for me, may be it will not be your choice. you have to start somewhere and that may mean sometime away from Family, I graduated on a Tuesday and I was offered a to start orientation next day. so yes there is plenty of companies that will hire you, keep your self clean of traffic violation or you may have less chances.Back to the school, If you feel like me at first dont give get frustrated, I seen guys doing bad driving and in just few tries success! they got the hang of it, others may need more time and repetitions so if you feel like me I recommend you to speak up if you are having some problems learning, they are not mind readers...so if you have a question ask, if you do your work, try your hardest they will try and work with you. Some students will stand around and do as little if anything, but if you truly want a great experience, its up to you to spend your time wisely.Youre there to learn and do your work, not sit there play with your phone and expect to have it just given to you.

At the CDL school help is always there for your own success, when I got there, they made a miracle of me and my truck driving, now I have my CDL A license plus my hazmat and tanker endorsement and it was because of them, Instructor Bob, Nelson and Wil were AWESOME! Thanks for your dedication and help, both instructing and help from director Julie and his assistants: Tiffany and Julio. God bless!

I cant say enough about the training and office staff here at career tech, the knowledge and help from them was what helped me pass my cdl test on my first attempt. If you listen to what they tell you then you will always suceed! John, Al, Jimmy, Antonio, Cecil, and both Nates are the very best.

I just got my CDL here last week. I was here in Lakeland for four weeks almost or exactly 180 hours. My overall experience was positive, the instructors are very cool and know a lot about trucking. It was harder than I expected but I kept pushing and was successful. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to complete, it helps if you come with your permit ready and puts you ahead a few days.JIMMY, AL, BOTH NATES, JOHN, BOTH WILLS, CEICEL, RICHARD, thanks you all are great instructors. The people inside at the office including the president where also very helpful and professional. If you want to get your CDL nothing can stop you, just hit the studies hard and keep perseviarance as part of your strategy. Most of my classmates where able to complete, and I made some new friends. If I had to provide and area for improvement it would be to get a bigger yard in the future, with more than one station for each yard skill. This would allow the students with a bit more time in the trucks each time.Again, overall I was satisfied with the experience and goals dictated by the school at Lakeland, FL Career Tech.

SO I AM ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL AND JUST FINISHED UP MY FIRST WEEK. I CAN TELL YOU THAT AFTER THIS FIRST WEEK I AM IN IT 100%. IVE SEEN SOME CLASS MATES THAT HAVE DROPPED OUT ALREADY AND I HAVE SEEN A COUPLE OF US REACH OUT TO THE WHOLE CLASS TO STICK TOGETHER AND PUSH / PULL EACH OTHER TO MAKE IT. JOHN IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT TEACHING YOU. HELL I THINK HE WOULD WORK FOR FREE BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE IS. HE STAYED AFTER 5 OCLOCK FOR US 4 NIGHTS IN A ROW THIS WEEK AND DIDNT GET PAYED FOR IT. THANK YOU JOHN!!!!!!! JIMMY IS THE MAN, HE HAS SOME AWESOME STORIES AND AMAZING EXPIERENCE IN THE INDUSTRY. AL AND ANTONIO ARE A GREAT HELP TOO AS THEIR WAY OF TEACHING IS TO SHOW YOU AND SEE IF YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION, THEN PUT YOU IN THE SEAT. CECIL IM COMING FOR YOU ON MONDAY TO MASTER THE PARALLEL. IVE SEEN WITH MY CLASS AND THE CLASSES BEFORE ME IS THAT EVERYONE (STUDENTS) SHOULD LISTEN AND PAY ATTENTION MORE AND NOT TALK AND INTERUPT AS MUCH!!!!! OVERALL I WOULD RECCOMMEND THIS SCHOOL TO EVERYONE. INFACT I GOT MY BROTHER COMING IN ON THE 20TH TO START CLASS. SO AGAIN THANK YOU CAREER TECH.

I am receiving the training I need to gain the confidence that is required to drive competently by a competent staff that really do pay attention to every students progress and who can identify each drivers needs. Tampa campus is small enough that everyone receives the training that each student needs.

Took 5 weeks to complete a four week program because school didnt have money to repair broken down truck. They just got one instructor who was stresed when he had more than 4 students, and he was gone half the time. Students teaching students or playing. Add to that the property has a big for sale sign.Nuff said. Bewear!

Career Tech was great! I obtained my Class B CDL with passenger endorsement..when I want to get my Class A, I will definately utilize their services! The Pastor was very professional, honest and dedicated..and my trainer although tough, was thourough and fair and expected you know your stuff. I applaud what Career Tech is doing. They may not have the newest bus or Tractor Trailer to train you on but you will get the training and certification you need, for a good price. I am retired military and they treated me well, and I have referred several people to them.GOD BLESS! John Blaeser
