This was not my first visit to this campus usually my visits are very pleasant, I’ve taken advantage of the Vet Tech program on clinic day with all of my 7 animals. But unfortunately today was a very unpleasant experience I drove 1+ hour to get to the appointment that was made over 2 months ago and was confirmed 4 days ago. To now be told by Nicole Amon on arrival that there missing documentation for my pets. And to have her tell us she emailed today to let us know documents were missing, I don’t know if it’s desorganización or in change of personal but my pets have been here before. I found it very inconvenient and inconsiderate that I drove form far to have this news upon arrival.so disappointed. If this so called vet would have called me in advance I would have not lost my trip and un needed stress for my pets.

I feel very privileged to be a member of the team at City College. I can sincerely say that I’m proud of the work my colleagues and I do everyday: teaching students, collaborating with each other, growing as professionals as we overcome new obstacles. Rarely does one have the opportunity to work in a place where you are free to develop your own ideas; a place where you can feel good about pushing yourself to become better each day, while working under the supervision of a kind and sensible program director (Mark Berges) and with a team of excellent professionals.Aside from the great work environment, another aspect of this job that I greatly value are my students. City College allows for solid teacher-students interactions. I feel appreciated by my students, and I, in return, feel like their success is directly tied to my work. This combination of factors makes me feel proud and excited to be working here. I want to extend my heart-felt thanks to everybody in the team. Looking forward to the work ahead of us.

No respect for Veterans, especially with disabilities. Great instructors but horrible and disrespectful staff. Has no idea how to do correct paperwork and blames the student. When their error is found, they ignore and won’t report issue. Had financial issues because of them. Take your time and wait to go somewhere else.

I wouldnt recommend this school for anybody except vet techs, medical assistant and ems students. I went here for medical office administration program, the whole program is fake, its just a fancy word for receptionist. When you finish this program, you will have an associate degree and 35k student loan. You can get a job as a receptionist with a high school diploma. School had some good teachers. Allied health chair persons are rude to you, if things dont workout the way they want, specifically, the hollywood campus.

I am an exiting ambassador for the CVS program. The program and leadership are amazing. Mark who is the program director and one of the instructors has an abundance of knowledge and makes it easy for anyone to understand. Maria who is another instructor also makes learning easy and as fun as possible considering the subjects. They make themselves available for us whenever needed, they are more than instructors more like family. The program is challenging but rewarding and fun. I think a bachelors program should be looked into for CVS😊. I love this program and the leadership. Everyone will be greatly missed.

I am so grateful to be a student at City College. As I experience my first year, In the Cardiovascular Sonography program, I found it challenging. However, I knew the determining factors in my success will be my commitment to studying and practicing initiative, motivation, and management of my time.I also know that the skills I learn in this program will be absolutely indispensable. There are so many other attractions in this dynamic field at City College such as the small classroom setting, hands-on training, and rewarding income. But what attracted me to this program is to have the opportunity to help patients on the road to wellness. Thank you City College Cardiovascular Sonography Program.

As City College alumni, I can personally attest to the dedication and continuous support given by the City College Cardiovascular Sonography staff and the office staff as well. If youre dedicated to learning the information and taking the advice given to you theres no doubt that youll succeed, nor will the staff ever abandon you. I graduate in 2016 and Im currently working in my field of choice. This is the result of two things, both my hard work, and the tireless care and consideration of the professors of the CVS program. To this day City College staff members still contact me to assure that my career is going well simply because they care. If youre looking for a professional, challenging, family-like academic experience, City College is for you.

Cardiovascular Sonography is HOT! I have heard this, but its TRUE. Looking at all the jobs available and getting daily emails about jobs, and head hunters calling me is convincing. I just started the program in January. This is an adult program, they helped me get financial aid and scholarships within hours of signing up. I ve gotten help every step of the way with all I need. Come in and see. Great professors with much more experience in the field than I expected are teaching me in small classes. I can interact and ask questions, even text them when I need. I highly suggest you look at other schools prices before applying here. I was going to attend for the EMT course i went several times to find out about it before i went in to register. I was told financial aid would cover it I told the councelor I already had debts from other schools I was never told the full price for the course until after i paid the 25 dollar registration and i started filling in the fafsa application. Thank god i actually paid attention to what the lady said about student loans she said yes you will get financial aid but it wont cover the whole thing and youll have to take out a loan. It was going to cost me 40,280 for EMT because its a deggre. I just left Barry university Broward college and Miami Dade college cost FAR LESS. For a non profit school the prices are outrageous so before actually paying the NON REFUNDABLE FEE please go to other schools and compare prices.

TRUTH ABOUT CVS PROGRAMI joined the Cardiovascular Sonography program with the best intentions of growing my career in the cardiology field. I already had a background in Cardiac Thoracic ICU patient care and figured this would be a great decision. This program does provide a great introduction to the world of cardiology in regards to procedures, terms, and lectures, however, the overall curriculum does not prepare you for the real world of sonography. Each class is approximately 4 to 5 hours long and held once a week (each semester is about 12 weeks long). The overall scan time is minimal with not much preparation upon completion of the program. There is a mandatory clinical externship that must be completed in order to graduate and adjustments in your personal life have to be made. None of the sites available are in located Broward so be prepared to travel down to South Miami, Hialieah or other parts of Dade (be prepared for rush-hour traffic and spending $$ on gas). Each semester of externship requires 300 hours and you will need 3 semesters to acquire 900 hours (minimum) where scanning is not allowed by the student. My dilemma is as follows: I worked overnight (11 pm to 7 am) in order to complete my clinical externship hours and am a father of 2. The only opportunity I had to practice scanning was during the times I picked my children up from school (after 2 pm). The new director of education does not allow students to scan children for whatever reason but dogs and other pets from the Vet Tech program are allowed to be scanned (although there is pediatric echo in the field of sonography). The previous director allowed me to scan my children and even completed one of my exams after scanning my son.Immediately after completing the program, I changed my shift at my job from overnight to mornings to free up the afternoons so I can practice scanning. I even placed my children in after school care so I can completely devote time to scan with no interruptions. After making these adjustments, I learned the program chair - Mark Berges is no longer running the program and the seat is vacant until filled. I cannot practice scanning after making all these changes in my personal life and it is beyond frustrating. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of 0 is because I did learn from this school. I wouldve given a higher review if I was given 1 to 1 scan time and had an instructor present to guide me through tips and tricks and complete protocol. My core classes consisted of me and 1 other student for a year and a half (other students dropped out). Now I have a degree, and preparing for boards with no skills in scanning. Good luck to those in the same boat, I know students before me are in the same situation.PS - Ask them how many students whom graduated are actually working in sonography. Over 90% of graduates dont work in the field of sonography after completion due to lack of scanning time. Trust me on this, I was warned when I was in the program and ignored the signs.UPDATE AS OF JUNE 25 2019 - AFTER SCHOOL REPLY BELOW: So apparently the school thinks 1 day out the week for 2 hours of scanning vascular (no echo - cardiac sonography) with 2 machines is sufficient. Sorry but the problem has not been resolved. Potential students beware of the BS at City College.

I started the CVS program about one year ago. A month after I moved down to Florida from New Jersey. I am a single mom with three boys that I have raised all alone. Going back to school was not easy for me but what in my life was? The school is welcoming and warm. The professors, Mark Bergés and Maria Hurtado, are the best thing that ever happened to me. They guided me, taught me, and best yet supported me emotionally. They gave me the confidence to finish the program and I know I will have the knowledge to do well in my field. With everything going on in my life, like everyone else who has challenges, city college has become my second home where I can finally take care of myself and do things for me.Thanking them would not do justice for all that they have done but I know going into my field and showing them I am doing well will bring the biggest smiles to their faces and that’s exactly what I plan to do!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I attended this college, and left after one semester. First of all, it took over 7 hours to get registered, which I thought was kind of insane. Okay so I get accepted. I was not impressed with the classes I had taken at all; they use Powerpoints as their mode of instruction. Why even buy books if it is all Powerpoints? The Vet Tech teacher also wasnt very timely; sent the materials for an exam THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EXAM and told us oh I forgot to give these to you. You need to know these for the test tomorrow. Really?! But I think what struck me is how I was lied to about the school NOT having any accreditation for their vet tech program. When I confronted them about it, they proceeded to say it was my fault for not reading the paperwork that said they werent. The paperwork that I was given said not a word about this. So it is now my fault? So now I am stuck with a student loan debt that I should not have to pay. They are being reported to the BBB for their terrible business pratices. And possibly harassment as I am called every semester, asking if I am coming back and I told them no and to leave me alone. Do yourself a favor; stay away from this school! Go to another local college; you are much better off!!!! >:(

I would 100% recommend the Cardiovascular Program at City College, when I was inquiring about the program I met with a wonderful representative who took the time to hear what I was looking for and if this program was suitable for me. I was informed at the second visit with her that this program required a lot of commitment and dedication as ANY MEDICAL PROGRAM WOULD REQUIRE!!! She made sure I met with the director Mr.Mark Berges to learn more about the program and for me to ask any questions and concerns. Mr. Berges was very straight forward and explained that this program is not about clicking buttons or taking pictures, its about becoming extremely knowledgeable in the field. He explained how important it was to study and dedicate your time and efforts for this particular program dealing with the Anatomy of the heart, also the Vascular system. He told me that at the end of the program an externship is required, where I would learn more about the protocols and also identify different types of pathologies when it comes to patients diagnosis (as you would in any hands on career LEARN OUT IN THE FIELD NOT ONLY WHAT IS TAUGHT IN CLASS). I was in and so glad to start, after the first main class Cardiovascular Concepts that was when I and many other students knew the work that was required and also the guidance you get from Mr. Berges but you have to be willing to put a lot of dedication as well as see if this is the career for you. I am half way through the program and I absolutely love it, it was and is the best decision I have made for a career choice. As I get ready to take the SPI exam that the school covers for you as well as set up tutoring sessions and time to review I have been so grateful for all this program does for their students. The course is not easy but with plenty of STUDYING, and GREAT TIME MANAGEMENT you can succeed in this program taught by Mr. Berges and his staff. So once again I highly recommend this program if i could give 100 stars I would.

I am currently enrolled in city college, in the cardiovascular sonography program. When I came in to speak to a representative, they explained to me just over the top what the program consist of, BUT they always make sure we speak to the department chair which is Mark Berges. Mr. Berges is a very blunt professor. In meeting him, he explains that this program is NOT an easy program and we have to do a lot of studying. Considering the fact that this is a job in the medical field, I would only assume that it wouldnt be an easy program, So by him saying it wasnt easy and there was a lot of studying to be done didnt come as a surprise. In Starting the program, Mr. Berges aways explained to us what the course contains in the classroom and in externship. He also explains how time consuming externship will be. It is mandatory to complete 900 hours by the end of our second year, having a full time job will make that difficult. AGAIN, he makes that very clear. The classes that we are required to take are hands on classes, each class is about four hours and in the four hours we are tested on the previous chapter and start a new one. Just over the top, we learn anatomy of the heart, pathophysiology, physics 1 and 2, Arterial, Venous, and Cerebral Vascular. We are taught in depth what we may and may not see in the field. When it comes to hands on training, we are provided with the updated ultrasound machine by philips. We learn the views that are used when performing an echo protocol or a vascular protocol, what we can asses in each image, measurements, doppler, and the workings of the machine. In class, we scan each other. Most of the time we are all healthy but Mr. Bergs makes sure we know that in the field we WILL be scanning sick patients. Either way we are required to perform a protocol for a midterm and final that is given to us at the beginning of that semester ( Echo 3). Do we see sick patients in school? of course not, BUT we are taught what we may or may not see. Externship is for that exact purpose, so we can see what we dont see in school which are the actual sick patients. When it comes to our boards, the school provides us with FREE tutoring and they pay for your first test. We are given everything we need to succeed, but Mark Berges nor anyone in the school will hold your hand through it. You show interest and initiative, then you will get the same back. Do I recommend this, 100% but you need to be willing to put all your time and energy.

Hello everyone. The following is my personal review of the City College of Hollywood, Cardiovascular Sonography program, which I am currently enrolled in. At first I was a little hesitant about going to see the college counselor, because I was under the impression that City College wasn’t a very good and well known school. After the initial registration process I was introduced to the Program’s Director, Professor Mark Berges. I have to admit that I was extremely impressed with all of his credentials and experience in the field. Also, he was very honest and candid about the program stating, “you give 100% effort to the program and study the material, I’ll give you 150% support and assistance in any way I can, but I will tell you that this is not an easy program, if you don’t commit yourself 100% and put the time to study every week, and put a serious effort in learning and participating during the lectures, you will not succeed”... True to his word, after eight months in the program, Professor Berges, Dr. M. Hurtado, and Dr. Joel Brooks have made sure that every student understands the material they have taught us, taking their time with each of us, and answering any questions we may have during and after class. They are extremely professional, knowledgeable, caring, and respectful. Also and most important, each professor seems to be an expert on whatever subject they teach and really care that we all succeed and become not only good cardiovascular techs, but great Cardiovascular techs. As a retired police officer, I had the privilege to be assigned to the Training Bureau or police academy, as I am a certified instructor in many fields in my previous career, I would teach and put classes together as a coordinator, and always tried to get the most experienced and excellent instructors possible. I believe Professor Berges, who as the Program’s Director, does the same thing with the CVS program. Starting with Dr. M. Hurtado, as mentioned before by another student, is a Ultrasound Physics guru, and I will add an ECG/EKG master as well. Dr. Joel Brooks is a cardiologist who goes even deeper in his lectures and happily answers any questions that might not even be on the lesson plan, in order for us to get a better understanding as to why and how we need to do certain procedures. All of the great things about this program were made possible by Professor Berges, who does give you 150% support, if as a student you give him 100% effort and study.I no longer think City College of Hollywood is a lesser school than the other well known schools in the area, such as FIU, Nova Southeastern University, Barry University, or Broward College. I truly believe that the CVS program at City College of Hollywood, is one of the best in the state. I do want to also thank the friendly and courteous administrative staff at the school, where everyone always has a warm greeting and a smile on their faces everyday and treat you like family. If you want to challenge yourself and embark in a great career, I highly recommend the CVS program at City College of Hollywood. Thanks and GOD bless.Leo

I have been attending the Cardiovascular Program at City College for the past year and a half. I could not be any happier with the program thus far. This program requires a lot of dedication and commitment and is certainly not for the faint of heart! The professor I have worked with most closely is Mr. Mark Berges. I have learned a tremendous amount from him not only in academics, but in practical applications of our studies. He is tough, but fair. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in this program too ensure they are willing to put the work and dedication into their studies. A good work and study ethic combined with the teaching skills of Mr. Berges is definitely a recipe for success.Another aspect I value about the program is the practical applications of what we have learned (protocols) on actual patients. This is an invaluable experience I believe will set any graduate of this program above many others without this experience.I’m looking forward to starting my externship and advancing my career as a Cardiovascular Sonographer.
