Ive spent 4 years as a student at William Carey. My educational experience has far exceeded my expectations. The class sizes are small and personable. The professors all operate under an open-door policy. The university is growing quickly and is always looking into updating their facilities and classes to offer education that is relevant to an ever-changing world. This place is great!

I am a first year employee at William Carey University after having retired from the military and also from Gulf Coast Community College. I have really enjoyed teaching here because the environment is similar to the community college where you at least recognize faces that you see from time to time. I have been extremely impressed by the technology that the school uses. It is way ahead of the community college and even the local university where I teach in the summers. The staff is extremely knowledgable and helpful and willing to go the extra mile to meet your needs. As compared to other schools, it is much easier to implement changes in text books, or to implement something new, or to just place an order for supplies than anywhere I have been. After 40+ years teaching I can honestly say that William Carey University is the best place I have ever worked. Too bad I am so late discovering this gem. The only negative that I have experienced is getting accustomed to the 10-week trimester system after having been on a semester system in my previous work experience. However, this is good for the student because you are only taking 2-3 courses at a time rather than 4-5 typical of the semester system. The pace is fast but if you are in a course that you do not particularly like at least the pain will not last 17 weeks, only 10! You owe it to yourself to at least consider attending this institution. You will be pleasantly surprised.Noel R. Mann, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry and Physical Sciences

William Carey is Family. Thats the best way I can describe it. I spent four, nearly five years there and was not just taught but invested in by my professors. I wouldnt trade that time for anything. Class sizes are great and I never found anyone who wasnt willing to help. Super proud of the recent strides the University has made and am positive the future of WCU looks bright!

Great school that is continuing to grow. It is in the process of much construction on its campus. It will have its first graduating class from the medical school in 2014, I believe. It is finishing a new business building. It is building a new gym and baseball field. This is a small, tight-knit school. It is ranked #1 by US News and World Report for Best Value for regional schools located in the south. That is #1 out of about 200+ schools.I think it is great for someone who is looking for a great environment to learn and grow in a small setting.

I think this is a good place for students who want the extended familiarity and comfort of high school. Very big on the Baptist teachings; compulsory religion classes and chapel attendance. The latest is a dress code for females - no bra straps showing, no part of the breast, including cleavage may be visible, skirts just above the knee. This archaic bias against women was banished in the early sixties and is just another way to make young females feel that breasts are dirty, bad, sinful and should only be shown to your husband. It makes me furious. Nothing about mens dress was announced.

1. WCU is not a cheap university but they do provide many scholarships.2. Though we are a Christian school, we have many other religions that attend because we accept everyone so no need to keep to yourself.3. We are a school of many other nationalisties, so finding someone who suits your fancy wont be a problem.4. We are mostly known for our amazing nursing program, but we offer almost everything you need to get you your degree. Im an education major and I love my teaches ways.5. Ive meet so many people and know most of the campus by name because of the homey feeling of the campus.

Dont belive the lies, theyll tell you if your not Christian youll still love it, and the scholarships for such a desirable (read: expensive) college will make it tempting. Only thing you gotta do to keep it is to go to chapel every Wednesday. What they dont tell you till youre already settled in is if you miss even a handful of early morning chapels, they will fail you for every class that you are taking, no matter your grades.Getting up at 9 to listen to someone drone sounds easy enough at first, but most important and core classes dont take place till the afternoon, and keep you up a bit late so you can do the homework after. So 9 in the morning is gonna feel like 4. Oh and they lock the doors to keep you out if you dont get there in time. Even if they see you running to get there, depending on whos manning the door that day. Eventually found it hard to go to class at all, even for the subjects I loved. Why bother if youre gonna fail anyway, right? Now Ive been dropped out a year, in 6000 worth of debt that they didnt tell me I was racking up, I get a job that wants to know how much college I had, they wouldnt let me get my transcript because I was in debt. At least till I pointed out I couldnt pay them back with no job. Christian values aparently is a word that means no unless it means we cant get our money that we waited to the last second to say you were owing us.

I went to this college for one trimester and I was trying to get my prerequisites for an architectural degree. This is not the place for anything to do with engineering or architecture. I hate to say it but the teachers here are either new and inexperienced or retired teachers. This is a private college so the pay is low therefore you can understand why the employees are not the best of the best. I recommend this place for foreign exchange students and nursing students only. They have devoted alot effort and money to accommodating these program. This is christian college so if you are anything other than that I would keep it myself.

RELIGION STUDENTS BEWARE!! My family has had three honors students graduate from the Hattiesburg William Carey campus, and I loved the school while I was a student there. However, my senior year (2014) held some drastic changes to my beloved Religion department. Now under mostly new management, the department has treated the religion teachers and *former* dean disrespectfully and dishonorably. In favor of a less personal online experience, Dr. King and Dr. Hummel are working to make the Religion departments a mere shell of what they used to be. Heartbroken about my favorite department and will be sharing this with my younger siblings as well as other prospective students.

I would highly recommend this University. I transfered from out of state specifically to attend WCU. It was really nice that I didnt have to pay out of state tuition. I found WCU to be the most affordable of schools I was touring. They also offer multiple scholarships for students, many of which I received and was able to graduate debt free. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Intercultural Studies and my husband is currently a Cross Cultural Business Management major. I left feeling very prepared for my field of study. We both have great relationships with our professors and administration. They have worked with us on a lot of things and truly pray and care for us. We have learned more than academics from William Carey University and are incredibly grateful for our time here.

I currently and happily attend.Pros:Everybody knows everybodySmall class sizesCompetent instructorsChristian environmentNice though conservative peopleIts pretty safe on the campus, I dont worry about anyone stealing my stuff.Cons:No smoking, so you have to go outside the gates and near the ghetto where there are gun shotsA sort of curfew (better have your id after 10 pmThe cafeteria is awful. There are roaches in the kitchen and the food store room- and forget eating healthy. Costing 880 for the 10 meal plan per semester.Very strict on guy and girl hang outsIn other words if you want freedom, the college experience and a degree... Dont go here. But If you want minimal distractions, a very southern baptist environment, and a degree come on over. All and all its a good place to go you just need to know the cons as well before hearing it be all hyped up.

I have not had a good experience at William Carey or one as touted by whoever decided this was a great place. If you want a good scoop of knowledge on drawbacks and some positives, here you go.#1. The faculty and staff in the Hattiesburg campus DO NOT care about you or your success at all. At best, I was funneled through an office with an advisor not even interested in my name. At worst, I could not trust anyone paid to do their job the right way. I would always end up running to 4 different buildings to do it all myself, because there is no real notification going on until the last second such as a hold on your account that could keep you from completing classes. You should also be on your A game when taking more complicated classes, especially science, as you will be cramming a ton to cover every detail they expect you to know in a 10 week trimester.^^^SIMPLY PUT: You will be the one taking care of yourself and your business. A solid 80% of teachers refuse to offer any assistance at all and seek to passively insult you for even asking. I dont expect to be spoon-fed, but being a transfer student new to the system, I deserve some help. Smaller environment = worse treatment.#2. If you feel like getting involved on campus, youll have to make sure you visit the 2-3 campus activities. There are little to no campus wide activities happening to break the ice, and its so small that cliques are everywhere. Its like high school all over again. Everyones either severely socially awkward or acting drugged up. The only outliers are folks like me and people I know that came here, and the same thing happened to them.#3. Its so expensive that youre better off at University of Southern Miss. for whatever your major is. In reality, the educational quality is the same, if not, better at USM in regards to the cost, especially. This school is making money with a majority of people who are apathetic, uninspired and lazy as instructors/advisors. Getting a bang for your buck will happen more at USM (if you want to stay in Hattiesburg) unless youre a religion major. (Also, a pack of scantrons will costs you about $4 for 6. Yeah, really.)#4. This may tie in with the previous reason (cost), but the dorms are not very well built. I live in the newer dorms, and ants infested the place until I began setting up sugar traps around it. You cant leave a crumb on the floor without a colony in here due to an inch-wide hole where the wall should border off the wood panel floor. Its also kept pretty warm in here year round, and August-October was awful. My dorms supposed to be the best.PERKS:#1. This school is very safe and well kept overall. Security staff covers each exit 24/7 and ensure that students are safe, but this applies mostly in the evenings. They practically dont even look throughout the day or stop you. Also, dorms are locked with keycard monitors, and anyone wanting to get inside newer dorms must have their IDs on hand; otherwise, patrolling staff will keep an eye out.#2. The cafeterias food is surprisingly good compared to where else Ive been. Even after months it remains impressive as they also try to provide healthier options along with junkier food (if you want it). The service that these workers offer to students is very good, and theyre always willing to help feed those with allergies (gluten, shrimp, etc.).^ Those are all the perks I can think of.In all honesty, this place wasnt the right fit for me. This college is for people who are way too scared to be in a population. Ive tried my best to put up with all of these problems, and overall, it has not been worth staying. Ill tough out this last trimester and flip this place the bird when its in my rear view mirror for the last time. Couldnt force me back here because of all the stress.
