During my short visit to Nashville, I stopped by the Aveda institute for a hair cut and facial. I didn’t have a previous appointment, I felt lucky when they were able to schedule me an instant booking within the same afternoon. For the hair cut, Britney and her teacher, Kate, did exactly how I wanted my short hair done, with a good length and layering. For my facial, Kim, gave me a full hour of pampering with all the great Aveda products. As an Aveda user myself, I felt the service and the value offered there is genuinely fair and everyone is very kind. Keep up the great work and thank you!

Wonderful experience! I had a cut and balayage color and am very happy with both! Jade and her educator, Savanna (sp?), were wonderful. Friendly, professional and did a great job. It did take longer than I would have expected but they were very upfront about the time when I arrived and were spot on with their estimate of how long I would be there. No complaints. Very affordable. Will definitely return! Thank you!

I’ve gotten 60 facials here and loved it. So relaxing and only $35! I got my hair colored this weekend. Highly recommend Gabby. She did exactly what I wanted. Make sure and give yourself all day as I was there from 11:15am to 5:45pm. I had my ends and roots colored along with a haircut. She even curled it for me too!

I wish I could pick a less than one star option. Unfortunately I attended this Aveda school for a month and it was the worst experience of my life. All this place cares about is taking your money. AWFUL staff, awful teachers, even the students were mean and this “establishment” totally allows bullying. I hope Aveda goes out of business as soon as possible. I could not have worse things to say about this place. And the products absolutely suck.

I showed the instructor and student a picture of my hair which was colored by a previous student. Kinda of light red/strawberry blonde. That was the color on my record and what I wanted. What I got is mahogany color, dark reddish brown. I don’t know how the instructor thought that color was what I showed her. I’m so disappointed . The student told me it would fade after multiple washings. Even though they did an excellent job of coloring it is so far off from what I asked for.

The instructors, staff and students of the Nashville Aveda Institute are friendly. However, if you have curly hair, like me, I do not recommend getting your hair cut here, unless you purely want to offer the students experience. I have gone back several times, mostly wanting the students to gain experience with curly hair, but also hoping that I might actually get a cute cut.I have gone to Aveda Institutes for years, both in Dallas, Texas and in Grand Rapids, Michigan prior to moving to Nashville. I have always received excellent service and cuts at both locations. Unfortunately, that has not been the case here, even pre-pandemic. I truly hope that the Nashville Institute finds ways of providing their students more experience with hair of different textures.

I was just trying to schedule a tour to see if it would be a good fit and check out where I would be spending my money on. An extremely unprofessional lady got in contact with me and was speaking passive aggressively towards my simple question as to why she is making it seem that they are not allowing tours of the campus before committing to enrollment. And belittled me by mocking my question about the hour long group zoom call you have to take before even allowing to tour The weirdest and rudest phone call Ive ever experienced in searching for a school and trying to make a tour. I was hesitant to even tour because of the bad reviews of rude staff. Sour taste just from the start. We should all take our money elsewhere. Such a shame.

I want to start with something positive: I loved Emma, who did my hair. She was incredibly attentive and spent a good 10-15 minutes with me talking through what i wanted and explained my current hair vs the picture i showed and how the process would be. She was also the best anyone had ever been about not getting water into my ears as i have really small ear canals. However, the instructor—I think shane or sean?—made me feel super uncomfortable as he was talking down to the stylist in front of me multiple times throughout the process. I felt it was super unprofessional and hindered a part of my experience there.

I went for a root touchup. My student and her faculty were very careful to match my color. She did a good job getting the gray covered. It did take about 3 and a half hours for my less than shoulder length hair, but this can be expected since they are students and not completely proficient yet. When calling for an appointment, I was told I could not pay with cash and when I arrived signs were posted to that effect in the reception area and I was also informed by the receptionist. However, it was not clear that a gratuity could not be put on my card and could ONLY be given in cash....which was unfortunate because I wouldve liked to have given one but.....had no cash!!

Ive gone to Aveda for two appointments already and will definitely go back for more! The first time I went I got a cut only and the stylist was super sweet. She listened to what I wanted and it came out great. My last appointment was for a balayage and my stylist was amazing! The color came out beautifully and overall it was a fun experience. I love that I can get great service for a fraction of the cost. Keep in mind the appointments take longer than usual because they are still learning. Standard cuts are around 2 hours and color can take 3-4 hrs depending on how much hair you have so youll definitely need to plan around that. Its also a very different experience than going to a standard salon. The place is huge and can be overwhelming at first but everyone there is very nice and helpful.

I’m so sorry, but I’m not pleased with the lack of respect for people’s time here. Today I unfortunately was late for work because I had a 10:15 appointment... and they weren’t even finished by 12:26. I was fifteen minutes late to work after telling them 4 times I had to leave by at least 12:20 if not before. There was more than enough time to shampoo, cut, dry, and style in less than 2 hours. While I understand this is part of letting the students practice and gain experience, it was still unprofessional and not a great business model.

I have other services performed and have been happy every time. I think the only irritant has been missing the day to come in for the 20 % off, and that is because I am away and there is no alternative.

The students and instructors were nice and all, but it was SO not worth going there. When I called to book my appointment I was told it was going to be one price, but when I got there the price ended up being over double the amount. Also, it took 2 full hours.... At the salon where I normally go, it would of been the same price but only taken 25 minutes at most. The whole point of going to the institute was to save money, which I didnt, and a great deal of my time was wasted. Never returning to the institute!!

I have been going to this location for several years and they have always done a great job. You do have to understand that these are students and they are still learning. In addition, they are extremely busy. This last trip was a bit chaotic. I had called to make the appt and explained to the person on the phone that I needed at least a 2 hour time slot because I have a lot of thick hair and it takes 45 minutes just to dry. The appointment went really well until the end, the instructor was rushing the student who was doing my hair. However, it took the instructor 30 minutes to even do the initial check up, so it wasnt my students fault that we were behind. They also only had me in for a 1.5 hour slot. My hair turned out great but she didnt have time to do a finishing touch or style and I felt the instructor was rather rude to me and my student. You should never rush someone who is trying to focus on doing a great job on a haircut, that leaves so much room for error. They just need to work on their time management a bit and focus more on the individual customers instead of trying to jam too many in. It should be about the quality of the work instead of the quantity. If you have the option before she graduates in March 2019, request Kristen. Shes so great, really cares about the guest and very passionate about her work. Shes going to do great things after her graduation.

The educators were just as nice and checked my hair and my moms hair three times. One before cutting to ask them what they were going to do with the certain style I selected. The second one to check my hair after she was done cutting and the third was to see if I was satisfied with the job that she did which I was. She was very gentle and relaxing. My mom didnt have any complaints either. My master cutters name was Grace and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a good quality haircut. The price was very good. I was a first time guest when I made my first appointment a few weeks ago when the Aveda institute called me, the day of, to alert me that my specific student was not coming in that day. This is totally fine to me, they left me a voicemail while I was at one of my two jobs and when I had time again a couple of weeks later I made a new appointment only to get my hair cut because Ive have bad experiences with student salons in the past and in the many times that I talked to the salon, never once was I alerted to the fact that Aveda will cancel your appointment if youre 15 min late. Which should be known period, especially if youre a first time client, and especially at the Galleria Blvd location because getting around the Cool Springs Mall at this time especially is insane. I also called half an hour before my appointment on Friday December 15, 2017 and I specifically said I will be running about 15 minutes late to a young man named Julienne who again never mentioned the 15 minute cancellation and then transferred me to the Galleria Blvd location voicemail who, once I arrived to the salon never received my message and that they were personally (unconvincingly) confused since they had never even had 15 minutes to possibly spare between clients anyway. This may seem like a Best place but its clearly run very poorly with young and inexperienced people.

I have pretty much had a 3-4 star experience every time I go there which is every 8 weeks for the past 6 months. My only issue is that some of the mentor/teachers should be more engaged and helpful with their students. I was there for over 4 HOURS last night for a partial highlight/low light. My student needed guidance on technique clearly as far as speed and precision go for foiling and how to effectively use the round brush with hair drying. I saw a lot of pacing and looking bored by the instructors. Otherwise, my student was satisfactory. I would have loved to actually have been checked before I was told I was processed because my student missed all the foils in the front of my head. So, I still look like I have roots, which was the entire reason I was going. I was also not checked upon completion because all the instructors went home. The students should demand more and as a client make sure you engage with the instructors.

At the end of the day, I was turned back to jet black with a blue hue/tint. I’m VERY UNHAPPY. I went to another salon to get a consultation because I have a shoot in two day and I’m going to NYC less than a week. I needed my hair for all of that. The consultant said to me that my hair is badly damaged!!!!! I will not be able to get anything done for at least four weeks and that must include cutting my hair out to achieve what I color I want in my hair. This involves a color correction with cost over the roof and a color correction may not be all they have to do. The consultant said that Aveda SHOULD NOT have dyed my hair back to black as that puts a color in my hair that’s hard to remove and takes a lot of time. I am VERY UNHAPPY with what I was told and what Aveda did to my virgin black hair. Both instructors were VERY UNEDUCATED in this process in damaging my hair. In order for me to dodge this expensive color correction, I MUST wait a year for my natural hair to grow back. It takes a year because hair grows an inch or so each month. Both instructors (Savanna @ Nashville Aveda) were VERY UNEDUCATED in this process of damaging my natural hair.

While I understand this is a teaching school, students led by instructors, Im beginning to get tired of the time commitment and issues that arise from getting discounted hair services here. I told her I was walking in the door and my husband had dropped me off as he was on his way to get our vehicle serviced and I guess I would just have to wait in their store. I get it that things happen, but dont call me 12 minutes before my appointment to move it. Thats unrealistic. They did give me a free mini-facial and it was good, Thanks Ellie, but your store associates dont value peoples time. Also, by the way, on this visit they gave me another master student and she did an okay job, but did not achieve the level of blonde highlights i asked for. My dark brown hair does not like to lift at the roots. Over and over again I continue to tell the students and instructors this each and every time, but it continues to be an issue. I even give them pointers from past experiences, but no one listens.Eight weeks ago I went in for 3 things: root retouch, partial highlight and a botanical. The student I had was suppose to be a master, but she did a lot to my hair without getting instructor advisement and in the end I had orange spots all in my hair. At this point we were already 3.5 hours in. An instructor took over and fixed the orange spots and I like the end result very much, but it took SIX HOURS. I was there SIX HOURS!!!!!! Except for this time, the top of my balayage had a big stripe of brassy-orange. It had been SIX hours at this point. And only then, did I start to lose my patience. It was 3:30pm and I had to be at a rehearsal dinner in 2 hours. I had already missed an appointment, and was cutting really close to the other one.I would have just left the salon, and gone to get someone else to fix it, had I not had a rehearsal dinner that night and a wedding the next day.I told my girl that it didn’t come out as I had hoped, and that I was disappointed in the brassy stripe.A manager or teacher got involved and said it was expected for it to not be blonde, and that it would take a few more appointments. Even though at the beginning of my appointment they said it would be easy to do??They covered up the orange stripe on my head, RE-washed my hair, after they had already dried it, and ANOTHER hour and a half later, I left in a hurry, with wet hair to go to my sisters rehearsal dinner. I hate how my hair looks, and my family laughed at it as soon as they saw how choppy the color looked.I EXPECTED the manager, after seeing how exasperated I was, to offer a discount for the inconvenience... I was tempted to refuse to pay. I got in my car and cried because I just spent 7.5 hours for my hair to look exactly like it did when I came in. And now I’m out $122.I don’t even know what to say except that I have never been so disappointed with a hair appointment.Wouldn’t recommend going here, as much as I wanted to like it.

Made my appointment for my friend and I to get our hair done. Told the lady EXACTLY what I wanted which was to dye my hair a lighter blonde and get a cut. Called today to see if their was a possibility I could add pink highlights while also getting my hair dyed light blonde. And the older man, told me that I wasn’t even put down to get my hair to a lighter blonde but that I had a full coloring service. And I told him that I wanted my entire head blonde which would be a full service. And he treated me like I was stupid & told me that a blonde service is not the same as a full head service & I told him I told the lady a few days ago that I told her I wanted my head dyed lighter and he proceeded to tell me “did you not hear what I just told you?” I work in customer service, and I do not appreciate a worker who talks down to customers AT ALL as I would not do that to anyone.

Today I had been to Aveda for haircut for second time. It was really terrible experience, seem like I went for shampoo, deep conditioning (paid extra for it) and uneven hair cut.I was clearly conveyed my expectations even gave her pic, but unfortunately she didnt sinkin. When I gave geniune review upon asking, it wasnt much appreciated by educator.Well, but my previous experience with aveda was really good, last time when I was there master stylist meet beyond my expectations. So I think, it is just matter if luck.

I am very upset with this place. I have natural brown hair. I told them I want a heavy blonde highlights. So I was there for 5 hours and walked out in tears cause I have orange stripes. Also they were in a hurry to home cause it was 5:00. So they took the foil off to soon and they told me to come back for my haircut and they also said they will fix my orange highlights. To top it off I still had to pay 70.00 for orange hair and no haircut..

I have been here several times, each experience has gone downhill. My latest appointment took 3 weeks to get in. Once I arrived they did not have me down for a haircut along with my color/highlights. They said they were unable to accommodate. I went to the front desk to reschedule where the distracted receptionist told me they were so booked she couldnt see any openings..... Needless to say, I will no longer return to this establishment.

Aveda treat all possible future students well to get you in the school just to take your money. They don’t care about what their students are going through nor sacrifice to attend their school.....I’m a single mother I don’t except for them to be unreasonable with bending over backwards for me but I Do expected for them to have some type of consideration especially since I’m traveling across town, resulting in them sending me back across town soon as I get there only, I have 4 younger siblings and I have to wait till my mom drop all 4 of them off in order for someone to be at this house with my 1yr old daughter (cause I can’t afford child care) it cost me $60 every 2 days in gas because of the drive to aveda I had to give up my well paying full time job just because I felt aveda was worth it and because of aveda school hours being from 9am till 5:30pm (technically it’s later than that because you have to wait in a LONG line, which they allow their favorites to skip you, leaving me and others with the desperation of having to speed to work to make it on time ) allowing you to use the only 1 clock in the school, and you can’t clock out before 5:30pmWednesday-Saturday) they don’t care about your life outside of aveda They don’t appreciate how much you sacrifice by attending their school IF YOUR GOING TO SPEND $12,700-$18,700 MAKE SURE ITS AT A SCHOOL THAT THEY APPRECIATE YOU AND WANT TO SEE YOU SUCCEED....not just want your money

So I move to Nashville a little over a year ago and I needed somewhere cheap and good to go and I have always heard good things about Aveda. I get a “blonding” which they call it and I am now VERY aware that that is what it has to be called! The last 3 times I went were great, I had the same master student and she did a great job on my hair and I was in and out in an hour and a half every time, and yes I did in fact time it EVERY SINGLE TIME. However the last time I went in I had a different master student who took 20 mins giving me a neck massage, which he said was complimentary with every appointment, yet I have never had it done before. After that took up 20 mins of my appointment the very rude blonde instructor came over and said that I was scheduled for a root touch up and not a blonding and that they couldn’t take me that day. I was shocked....she proceeded to tell me that I should of scheduled a “blonding” even through every appointment I have made in the past I have NEVER called it that, because every other place in the world calls it a root touch up, so that’s what I scheduled and had always scheduled and it was never a problem before then. She proceeded to tell me that they couldn’t do it cause it ALWAYS take 3 hours and they would have to cancel everyone’s appointments for the rest of the day (way over dramatic) I assured her that I have had this done here many times and every single time it has only taken a hour and a half. She continued to be super rude and argue with me and made it out to be my fault cause I scheduled the wrong thing, even though I get the same thing done EVERY SINGLE TIME and they should have my appointment history in the computer. How is any normal person who doesn’t work there suppose to freaking know what a blonding is?!!! She literally made me leave my appointment, thank god I didn’t have an event or anything important that night or I would of lost it. On the way out she said I could make a new appointment and I said “No thanks I just won’t come back” and she gave me the snotties attitude and said “That’s fine.” I was shocked at how rude she was, and she’s suppose to be a leader there?? I will definitely not be going back! I will go pay a little more somewhere else and be treated way better.

This is my second visit to the Aveda Institute for cut/highlights. While the first visit with Master Student Hannah was great and I left with another appt with her for 2 months later since she was still a student but about to graduate. When I showed up for this visit I was greeted by a new student who will remain nameless because she is so new and inexperienced (which I did not find out until after the service was over). This was, by far, the worst hair experience I have ever encountered and Ive had some doozies. I told the student what I wanted and an educator (who was great, by the way) came by and reviewed it. I knew something was wrong when the educator kept coming by and fixing things the student had missed, but I kept quiet. During the color, my base color was extremely dark, so I asked the educator if it would be that dark after rinsing, she stated no. Well I was going for bright blonde highlights (my hair was already really blonde, I just wanted it blonder), the end product was an ashy brown with less blonde than I came in with!!! I remained quiet during the cut (which took forever and she kept pulling my hair like she was trying to pull it out of my scalp! I had the feeling the student had never even cut hair before) and blow dry (which made my hair look like a frizz disaster). Upon inspection, I stated to the educator that I was NOT happy, that my hair was darker than when I came in, the cut was uneven and it was a frizzy mess. The student was just going to let me leave looking like that!!! WHAT?!?! She was so blah about the whole thing, like she could care less about my hair. The educator assured me that I would not leave without it being fixed so she proceeded to add more highlights and then left saying that another educator and student would be watching over me to finish my service. Well, I kept having to find an educator to look at my hair and kept getting swapped around to whoever was convenient, after I had already been there for 6 hours so far!!! I had literally spent the equivalent of 3/4 of a work day in this place with no food (my wonderful boyfriend brought me food and water), a few dixie cups of water and no bathroom break. Finally I was rinsed and a treatment put on my already damaged hair and I was sent to a student station for the cut touch up and style. Overall, I spent 8.5 hours in this place of total chaos. There is just too much going on in the place for all the educators to keep up and oversee. I wont be going back even though the educator was great and I was offered a free hair treatment upon my return. If you do decide to get your hair colored at this location make sure you ask for a MASTER Student Stylist!!! And when you arrive for your appt, ensure you are getting the Master Stylist you made the appt with!!!

This past Friday I had my third experiece at the Aveda Institute. The first two were excellent and I wrote favorable reviews and tipped the stylist students as much as I could afford to show my appreciation. However, this last visit, I got a haircut that did not meet expectations. The Stylist, Karli, did a fine job of shampooing, conditioning with the botanical, and trimming and styling the length of my hair. However, even after a very clear discussion with her and the Educator regarding the bangs, I ended up with a baby bang fringe that had me in tears by the time I reached my vehicle in the parking lot. I dont know where or how the breakdown in communication occurred, as we talked about keeping the length but just taking out the weight, and even referenced the handy picture booklet at the station with celebrity hair style photographs. But nonetheless, I paid for the haircut, tipped the stylist because she did the work, but I left feeling extremely disappointed and upset because this does take weeks to grow out...possibly a month or more. I dont think I will go back. I felt dismissed and even though apologies were made, I felt as though they thought the problem was my lack of style to accept the look, instead of it being a matter of not getting what I requested as the patron.
