Worst school ever. They are terrible, and do not have their facts 100% straight such as : lots of miscommunication between the student and management. So disorganized, teachers and employees seem to come and go very quickly. None stay that long which is odd. Not only that but many students drop out of this particular school quickly.With all this being said the teachers there are somewhat helpful when it comes to studying.

Only 2 of the admin/office staff were there the whole time I attended (April-Nov 2016) and admin and teachers seemed to have little to no support from the main corporate offices. When you attend they claim they will find you a job, but the career services person quit shortly after i started and they didnt get someone else until about 3 months after i graduated... he only lasted a few months so Ive had no help with any kind of job searching. finally landed a job 7 months after graduating and in talking to my manager found out she had been trying to contact them on and off for about a year to scout potential employees. never heard a peep from them about doing any kind of job fair. As for the education itself... on the esthetics side the material is dated and some of the medical info is wrong. They havent updated the curriculum since 2011 (all the notes and tests had 2011 revision marked on them). the massage side Ive heard is mostly self study and looking things up online the very high teacher turnover means each new teacher changes the curriculum so its difficult for students to make sense of things sometimes. also about the teachers there doesnt seem to be any kind of formal training for them just a general show these 3 pages of notes Monday, these 14 pages Tuesday, these 10 on Wednesday, and on Thursday these 2 pages plus the test on all that material. the massage side i was told was along the lines of topic A Monday, topic B Tuesday, A on Wednesday, C on Thursday and the test for topics A-E would be 3 weeks later. It was just a mess to attend and I had one of the better experiences compared to the issues some of my classmates had. If you are looking to study in these fields go to a spa/salon/massage place and ask the employees where they went to school and if they recommend it or for any tips or tricks to getting through the schooling. For me if someone asked me about Steiner is say one of the biggest things is keeping track of your own hours. i missed maybe 3-4 days over the course of 2 months, but when we got our report (at the beginning of a block. a block started every 5 weeks) I was missing almost 2 weeks worth of hours. I dated all my notes so had proof i hadnt missed all those days, but others i talked to werent so lucky. sorry for this being so long, but it boils down to if I had to do it again... despite the amazing women I was classmates with you couldnt pay me to attend Steiner at VASOM.

I attended VASOM several years ago. I knew at the time that it would be my responsibility to find a job after graduation, which is a lot easier if you live in a city. I was living in Richmond, VA at the time and made quite a bit of money right out of school working at a spa and wellness center. However, I researched where massage was practiced in the area and physically went to at least 15 places, resume in hand. It is essential to get a feel for the place you could potentially work because you want it to be a good fit. My two jobs turned out to be great! And both had not posted hiring ads. Massage can be a very lucrative as well as the rewarding profession though you need to be self-directed and determined. The coursework and teachers at VASOM were ok. I agree their business model needs to be tweaked and analyzed so that they can retain staff for consistency. We now have youtube so....coming from someone with a B.A. and A.S. stated just to show I have attended a lot of college classes; academically they were adequate. I know its hard when you feel like the support isnt there, maybe step back and analyze the situation and think of the positive instead of the negative. VASOM is a business, and its not a bad business. I feel I was treated well. My intention to share my personal experience and give thanks because the office has been more than helpful getting me transcripts and doing what they can to assist me getting my MT license in another state. I drove from Richmond to Charlottesville to attend VASOM for classes. I would never have just shown up expecting someone to be in the office to help me. If you need help with a resume or assistance job hunting, I would most certainly call and make an appointment and have a specific amount of time with that person, so you leave feeling satisfied. Every situation is different. It is tough when there arent a lot of jobs no matter where you live. I live in a rural environment now and would not expect the same things that the city offered. VASOM can help in many ways and if you are not getting what you need maybe think about how you are going about it. The VASOM environment could use some upgrades but what school couldnt! There are not many schools in the state of VA that are nationally recognized which makes a huge difference if you ever intend to leave the state and want to practice massage. VASOM staff may try and sell you on making lots of money right out of school....and that is far-fetched due to the physical location and relational skills of applicants as you make money on repeat clients. Massage helps people feel better and I wish all that attend VASOM good luck and peace.
