This is the best place for martial arts. Excellent staff. Supportive and positive environment and programming. My son loves it and so do it. Could not be more grateful for the fantastic experience we have had.

Master Harris and all of the instructors at Martial Arts University have really helped my son gain confidence and set goals for himself. Ive watched my son do things on his own through the training that I never thought we would be able to do at his age. I can’t say enough about martial arts university and the instructors here. I’ve been training for a long time in various different styles and never thought I would go back to Tae Kwon Do as I always felt it has turned into more of a sport and just for kids. However, I signed my son up 2 years ago to help him get some energy out and thought, eventually, I’ll take him elsewhere to get more “street” martial arts training. Boy how my mind has changed in 2 years.After just a few classes and watching Master Harris and the other instructors command the respect of the students (and parents) in a way that builds connection more than any school I’ve ever trained in, I decided to to start training in the school as well. The wealth of knowledge, not just in Tae Kwon do, but in martial arts in general is impressive.Lastly, it’s hard to blend old school training into today’s society of having everything at your fingertips, yet somehow they do it and do it great!If you decide to train here, you will not regret it! Today 12/5/20 my Son had his 5th birthday here and let me just say what an Amazing experience it was and not just for the kids for the adults too. Todd and his family were incredible (Thanks Mrs.Pam and Hope). My son and his friend had such a great time and even the Few kids that did not participate are saying they had a good time. This place is super clean and safe they are checking temperatures and giving sanitizer at the door.

The knowledge and experience of each of the instructors make this THE best place to learn martial arts. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help with any questions or issues you may have, even if it isnt related to the program. We started out with just my daughter on a 6 week trial and ended up signing up the whole family. My 9 year old daughter has gained self esteem and self discipline. It is a great way for a family to bond and a great way to stay in shape as well as learning self defense. I could go on all day about how amazing the instructors and classes really are.

Martial Arts University is a great place to bring your kids! The instructors are really in-tune with both adults and kids in the classes. They are top-notch and really, really good people. There is always a message attached to each class regarding becoming a better person, targeted towards the kids in the class. We LOVE this place and everyone there!!!My 6 year old wanted to try karate so I got a Groupon to check the box. Five months later she has her yellow belt, 4 gold stars, is in their Leadership Program, and just had her birthday party here! I can literally see the changes in her (focus, discipline, respect, confidence), she is PROACTIVELY offering to help at home, she gets great exercise, is learning how to protect and defend herself, and best of all, shes having SO MUCH FUN! The instructors are fantastic and she makes new friends every class. My favorite thing though is that this is a family owned business and everyone who works here treats you like one of their own. They genuinely invest in, and create personalized experiences for, each and every child. I think its a really great place for adults too ;)

I have been going to MAU for 5 years and the experience there is very unique. This is a very special place to me. I have been a coach for a long time and love mentoring children, but I have particular ages and skill levels I am better at reaching. Todd Harris is one of the more gifted instructors/mentors I have ever seen, across a very broad spectrum. He can just as effectively help a novice 6 year old as he can an expert 20 year old as he can an out of shape 52 year old (I can do sit ups again!). He begins with an important principal in teaching--meet your student where they are in their lives and development in order to best be able to determine how to help them. It is amazing to watch. MAU has been a godsend to me and my son, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Awesome place ! When we first had our initial appointment with master Harris I was expecting it to be like the other karate place I was going to take my son . And it wasnt . He wasnt trying to sell us on anything ... He only stated fact . I love that he has a degree in child development and that he never shies away from learning more and teaching not only the kids . But the parent to When I say this is the best place for your child and your self it is ! Master Harris and his family are the best. He and his son and wife are great with children. He knows how to get that child to break out of there shell, he gives up tips on how to work on your child at home, not only with karate but mentally . I wasnt looking to learn martial arts but after watching my son take classes with Todd Harris and the other fine instructors at MAU, and seeing the progress he made and how much fun he was having while doing it, my other son and I and then my wife all decided to take classes there. The instructors at MAU do a fabulous job teaching martial arts, but they dont stop there. They make it their mission to make their students better people. I never believed my 8 year old daughter could perform any of the martial art skills but after 2 years attending MAU, she has made great strides where I am impressed. Its hard not to like this place. Sure you can find other places to teach a form of Martial Arts but MAU is different. It starts at the top Master Harris is truly a Master; his ability to connect quickly with students regardless of gender,race or socioeconomic status is pretty special. However it doesnt stop there, each and every instructor brings something unique to the table. As you watch them all interact with each other and their students you quickly understand what first looks like chaos is really a controlled environment designed for multiple student/teacher connect points focused to encourage and motivate. Success is not always defined as the best form but who puts forth the best effort, dedication and focus. Im seeing that does come as long as the effort is there. So if you want your child to learn more than just Tae Kwon Do from people who are passionate, caring and really love their job give this place a try.

Its been a year now since I joined MAU. I started as a beginner knowing nothing about Martial Arts,, Master Harris and his well trained professional team of Martial Artist Instructors are helping me learn and grow in the Art in a simple but well Organized way. If there were a rating higher than 5 stars, I would give MAU that rating. My kids and I started training at MAU in March 2014. It has been a great experience. While I did karate as a child and earned a black belt, it has been a great challenge to start all over from white belt and work my way through the belts with one of my sons, who is as enthusiastic about it as I am. Not only does martial arts provide great physical fitness, but MAU provides life and leadership skills that any parent for themselves or for their kids would find amazing. If you havent tried it, I highly recommend it.

Martial Arts University is simply the best! Before starting at MAU, I would receive reports almost every single day about my sons difficulty controling his emotions. We were also having a challenging time at home. Being overwhelmed, we decided karate may be the best chance we had at helping him and MAU has proven that to be true! Master Harris, Master Hernandez and the staff have worked hard in redirecting Matthew and have been so patient with him. Not only do they teach him awesome martial art skills and make it fun, but also challenge him to be focused, disciplined and to have respect for others. They have taught him to set goals and work hard to reach them - that he is not entitled to everything but needs to earn good things. I especially love how they use age-appropriate scenarios to teach the children life lessons. Master Harris has also been very helpful in teaching us ways to parent Matthew in a way that reaches him. Since starting at MAU 4 months ago, our Matthew has gained more confidence in his leadership abilities, has been working and playing better with his siblings, takes instruction better and has gotten little to no bad reports from school. It makes my heart sparkle to see how much he has matured and we have Martial Arts University to thank for aiding us in this journey!

A year ago, when our son was 5, we wondered what would be his thing. His father the runner, me the yogi, and his sister the blossoming ballerina. He didnt enjoy tennis, basketball, soccer, or swimming(a fish now though!) and although Montessori taught him some focus, he was lacking attention and interest if that makes any sense. We decided to try martial arts at MAU hoping he would enjoy the physical exercise as well as develop more discipline and self control. Last week he earned his purple belt but it felt like so much more. We are so appreciative of what Todd Harris and Pamela Davidson Harris lead and foster. I can honestly say we have all learned more about community, dedication, and how to help instill independence and respect in our child than we ever expected. MAU is gentle, nurturing, and even uses subtle humor to the point that the children dont even realize that they are being driven to do their best. Simply the best martial arts school and academy around! Period. For years I tried to train off and on in my youth. I later trained at several schools and styles as a young adult. I heard about all the training and life skills from all my friends and neighbors at MAU. I visited about 4 schools in Charlotte and once I visited myself and with my 4 young children I can say we now train at MAU!!! If you are an adult wanting to lose weight, work on physical fitness, self-defense (hapikido, krav maga, tae kwon do, and many others) or gain viable real world business tools then you need to come visit. If you are a parent, I just say sign up for the trail lesson and the rest will speak for itself. Nothing beats being able to train as a family – how rare is that in today’s world. My kids have learned self-confidence, team-work, discipline and it’s an absolute joy seeing what they learn in and out of class. It’s not just martial arts – if life training at the highest levels.
