We have chosen ADA for our three sons because of the quality of the program and the experience of the staff, many of whom are former police officers. They were well prepared for the written and driving tests. We recommend it highly and chose to drive 30 minutes each way for this level of driver education.

I took my road test to get my license back at 27 years old today and passed! Due to my anxiety I havent driven in 5 years, and I was so nervous to do this. Leonard was SO incredibly kind, patient and made me feel at ease behind the wheel. He is also the retired police officer mentioned in the other positive reviews about him :) I highly recommend this company. Its very nice to know there are people out there who are not only good at their jobs, but care about their customers just as much.

Great experience! From setting up the appointment to the actual instructor himself, who put a very nervous 18 year old girl at ease with his calm and friendly demeanor. Cant recommend them enough!

I only took the driving test (no lessons here or anywhere else), and Im so happy that I passed! I took the test this morning, and I drove with Joe Hayden who was very calming and gave very clear directions. I had selected to rent a car which was a GMC terrain, and it was a very easy car for me to drive (which surprised me since I had only practiced driving with a Ford expedition and Honda accord beforehand). The car had a backup camera, and the engine turns off when you come to a stop, so if you drive the car and hear a weird noise when you start moving after a stop, thats why. Reading the Michigan driving skills test study guide (available on the website, or Google it if you cant find it) helped prepare me for what I should expect.

I note that all those who thank in the place are those who took driving lessons, but when you only do a driving test, I do not think that the result will be satisfactory to you ... I did the test and did not do anything wrong at all, and in the end I did not succeed and when I asked him about the reason he told me I did not move my head to check the invisible area .. I looked at it already I did not have to move all of my head to prove to you that I can drive good and safe... I felt like a loner and never expected that I would not succeed ... It is normal to do a mistake or more if not A big mistake, such as breaking a signal or anything important .. I tried to reach an understanding with him, but it was a very end and he did not respect my feelings and take his car and gone ..... i hope he is not Intransigent and intended to make me not pass from the exam... any way it’s last time to go there .. I would never advise anyone to do the test there because they are very rood and stubborn .. and many of my friends took the test elsewhere and did small mistakes, but they passed the exam because there is no one who does not make mistakes

They are the absolute best!! Would not consider another driving school. They are extremely thorough, professional, and just genuinely kind. I have had 4 kids go through their programs and have been very happy.

I just took my road test this morning after not driving for 14 years. I would recommend this place to everyone especially parents with teens. Brad did my testing and he put me at ease from the moment I met him. Im sure everyone there is great but Id ask for Brad just because that is who I dealt with for my test. My oldest did her phase one and driving test through ADA. It was fantastic! The only reason we did not do phase 2 was due to availability because of Covid. Kids #2&3 are currently taking phase one. The team is amazing!

In full honesty, I was a bit intimidated to take my drivers test with a former officer but Leonard was very understanding and considerate. I could tell he really made the effort to have me feel at ease with his humor. As long as you come prepared and confident, you should fairly get your license! Even if you didnt take classes through ADA, which I did not.

Highly Recommend. My Driving Instructor Was The Owner. At First He Was A Little Intimidating But Actually Turned Out To Be Super Patient. I Thought I Did Horrible Because I Was Super Nervous And My Mind Just Went Blank.But He Was Really Patient And Let Me Know That He Was Gonna Pass Me Because I Did A Decent Job Or At Least Good Enough To Drive On The Road. He Even Gave Me A Little Christmas Candy Craft That His 93 Year Old Mom Made Lol. So Cute!

We have put all 4 of our kids through this school and have been thrilled. We thought we had to go somewhere else for our youngest’s road test because they were so backed up due to COVID. Long story, but it didn’t work out, and we desperate since we already had the Secretary of State appointment. The owner graciously extended hours to help us (and others) complete their education. So much appreciated!!!!

Loved the overall curriculum that the instructors taught. They really emphasized on how important driving is and that it must be taken serious.

I took segment 1 and 2 here in 2018 (I know late review but honestly this has been weighing on me for a long time) and also took my drivers test (may 14th 2018) at first I had a really positive feeling about this place, loved my instructor who taught my class (I believe it was the owner) but as soon as I went to go take the road test, all of my positive opinions were negative quick. I told the instructor (Don) that I had severe anxiety and would probably stutter, and say the wrong things at first. I was asking for patience. Off the bat, he asked some question about head on collisions, I mistakenly told him the wrong answer but in my mind I was telling him the right answer, so when I went to correct myself immediately after I said it he dismissed me and told me I was being unprofessional. We got to Ford rd, where he kept telling me the speed limit was 35 mph, and continued to mark me down AS I kept showing him the sign of the speed limit saying 45 mph, and I knew it was to begin with, I kept trying to stand my ground and he told me I was being unprofessional. Needless to say, I didn’t pass. I got points off of the question (when I shouldn’t have) and also points off of “going over the speed limit” when I clearly wasn’t. so why didn’t i pass? To this day i have no clue. This traumatized me, I have not tried to get my license since. I wasted my money, and time and now fear ever taking the test again.EDIT SINCE I CAN’T REPLY TO YOUR REPLY: 1. I did NOT have an automatic failure, I passed every part of the test. What I said previously was the instructor told me the speed limit was 35mph on Ford rd (and marked me down for going 10mph over) AS I POINTED OUT THE SPEED LIMIT SIGN THAT SAID 45MPH. 2. I didn’t need to be “educated on why I didn’t pass”, your instructor needed to be educated on what the speed limit is in a certain area because obviously besides those points being taken from me over the speed limit I would’ve passed and I DID PASS because the speed limit was 45mph not 35mph. 3. I told the instructor I didn’t agree with the score and outcome and he disregarded it. 4. I did love driving until I tested with you guys. 5. This isn’t a negative review from someone who didn’t pass their test, this is a negative review from someone who passed their test but was told I didn’t because he was unaware of the speed limit and told me that “back in the day when it was dirt roads it was 45mph, now it’s 35mph they just haven’t changed their signs”, now does that make any sense to you??

I found ADA after having trouble locating a place closer to home for segment 2. My son took the zoom class which worked out really well, given the times. He then scheduled a private drive with Samer and that went great. He prepped my son for the road test and my son left feeling super confident. We did the road test today with the owner, Leonard Schemanske, and everything went great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Id definitely recommend them and will be back in 6 years with my other son.

Phenomenal Experience 👍I was skeptical at first, but my worries were washed away after the first lesson. The coaches are nice... but some... some are top tier; didnt get a chance to meet every coach, but the ones I did were great. The lessons are straight to the point and easy to understand. Everything is explained and the environment gives off a feeling of accessibility to where anyone can ask questions and feel comfortable doing so. I fondly remember one lesson in segment 2, coach Schemanske made me laugh so hard to the point of tears and borderline throwing up. Entertaining and productive!The scheduled drives are educational and fulfill state guidelines, so no need to worry about that.I took both segment 1 & 2, plus the driving skills exam here and appreciated their service in its entirety.Also, Coach Don. We used ADA for the driving class and the final test. They were awesome, the owner is hands on and provides real practical guidance and support. The whole team helped my son every step of the way.We did the drivers test yesterday and Joe was outstanding. He helped calm my son and ensured he was performing at his best. It is a wonderful program for new drivers. It is ran by a retired police officer. Our daughter went through it and now are son. They are handling things very well during this pandemic. Very professional.

My 16 year old daughter took her driver’s license test here. I was very impressed with Don who was the instructor. He was so calm, thorough in his instructions, and helpful (in a soft spoken manner) with his critiques. If I had another kid, I would bring him/her here for sure!

Great experience! With no background knowledge of driving I was nervous throughout.My instructor Michelle made sure she was patient and at the same time she gave me that push that I needed. My confidence levels hit the roof and I was able to pass my test on the first go. Worth the money!

Absolutely the BEST Driving Academy of Michigan! The owner, Officer Schemanske, is a retired Police Officer and takes his job very seriously! My 3 siblings and I all took his classes and wouldnt think about going anywhere else! ADA provides the most in person and hands on learning experience, easily adaptable for any teenagers to engage in.

Instructors were very patient and cool-minded. Both the practice drives and the test were made fairly smooth with their help. ADA is definitely professional and reliable.

Very nice and excellent staff! Called and setup a drivers test for my wife, she took her test with Don Stimmel. She was super nervous but passed on the first try. Don was very very nice, excellent, calm, she said he helped calm her nerves and gave excellent advice / constructive criticism, also commented on things she did great (even while driving during the test which calmed her nerves) and things she should be careful with or work on a little more (all valid and to make her a safer driver which I appreciate). The staff here were all very nice all around, easy to setup the drivers test too. Great location. Overall highly recommend them and Don as an instructor/tester as well!

They teach you everything you need to know and more. Flexible scheduling. If you take a liking to a specific road instructor, theyll try to put you with them. Also, if you have a friend in the class, theyll let you carpool with them. Very patient and calm instructors. Their vehicles are leases so theyre always practically brand new which helps.

ADA is the best driving school you could ever attend to. Its been really helpful for many people (including me), who never would have thought that they could ever learn how to drive. But in just 3 weeks, they went from not knowing the gas pedal from the brake pedal to driving like its nobodys business. I hope that youll love ADA as much as i did. And let me tell you how much you pay for it, it all pays off when you know that you can drive anywhere you want!

Do not test here!!!Guy is rude, sister failed because she wasnt looking left and right on green lights with heavy traffic and 45 speed limit. He was being bossy and loud before the test even started. I asked other instructors and they said not looking ahead in heavy fast traffic is exteremly dangerous! This is just a scam, as they want you to pay for classes even if you make 0 mistakes. Avoid this place unless youve paid for classes with these people.Do not test here!!!

Each time I called whomever answered the telephone was pleasant. When I went into the branch in July the older gentleman seemed rude but the young man I talked to over the telephone was very helpful and insisted on waiting on me. (The mans attitude should have been the first red flag)When taking my son for the road test, the instructor appeared to be nice. My son had segment 1 and 2, but just turned 18; therefore, I was unable to be in the car and since it was raining I did not stay outside to observe. I wish I had because I would have asked questions.From speaking with my son about the test, it seemed he was misinformed. He was told multiple times to restart parallel parking not knowing it was counting against him. The instructor should have advised him that points were being deducted each time he restarted opposed to encouraging him to start over. Well we all know how that went. My son only knew he did not pass the test because of parking; however, he was unaware of the amount of points deducted. If a parent had been present, I believe the outcome would have been different and at minimum we would have known how many points were deducted. I have reiterated to my child to ask questions as it never hurts. Funny thing is the driver prior to my son had multipleeeee chances with the instructor getting in and out of the vehicle with her and her parent. (Very suspicious)I was very hesitant to take him back to ADA and so glad I did NOT. If you take your child who has turned 18, you may want to stay, watch and ask questions to ensure you do not give $60 away in ten minutes.

My son was very nervous about taking drivers training, but the instructors at the Advanced Driving Academy made him feel so comfortable he could not wait to start his second class. The instructors are very professional and also very strict with the students. They take great pride in their teaching and it is clear they wanted my son to become a great, responsible driver. The instructors were very approachable and acted more like mentors and coaches to my son than a Teacher. ADA makes you feel like you are family as soon as you walk in the door. The woman who runs the business was an absolute pleasure to deal with, as I had a lot of questions about the process. This was my first child driving, so I was unfamiliar with all the new laws. I really appreciated the fact that she never acted like I was bothering her with my questions. As a parent, she really made the experience great for me.

Upon arriving for the road test on March 28, 2019 and appointment time being 3:45 pm, my son was a bit nervous as all new drivers would be I am assuming. The moment we met Mr. Don Stimmel, I knew it was going to be a pleasant experience. Using my vehicle and riding in the back, I listened to Mr. Stimmel correct and also give pointers as to my sons driving skills. Don was very patient, soft spoken, and gave great advise. This is best driving school out there in canton I got my permit and drivers license from here they are very good at teaching you how to drive. coach Schymansky and all the rest of the coaches never give up on you even if youre having a hard time driving with them. They all treat students and parents like family and I would definitely reccomend this driving school to people that want to drive as soon as possible.

I called this company to schedule an apptmoint for my daughter. When the man answered the phone he asked where I lived and when I told him he directed me to make an appointment online. I said well I’m calling to make an appointment over the phone. He said well I would have to put you on hold to which I said no problem. He then referred me back to their website, to which I asked do you not take appointments over the phone and he said we do but I would have to put you on hold. I told him nevermind, you clearly do not want to take my appointment, I will find another company. I don’t understand why I couldn’t make an appointment over the phone when I was told it was possible.

NO, never go for driving test at ADA. I went for driving test a week ago, and there was a few inches of snow. I could clear first 2 parking very well. For first parking, he unnecessarily gave me 1 point. For second parking - reverse parking, he gave me 1 more point. As I took the car little forward. So he gave me another point. At last level, I parked the car in parallel parking. Just because it was exactly at border and not inside. He failed me. Horrible Experience. I also told him that there was a snow and it could have even skid my car and in such weather, I have done a good parallel park. I believe, they are only interested in earning money. At end, he was insisting only on having more and more practice and I know why it was being said for and he was trying to prove that I was nervous during test. Please check records for driving test on 27th Jan 8AM

We have had 4 students go through Advanced, and they all had excellent service and training through ADA. All four of our kids learned the material so that they easily passed the State tests. Also, they finished Segment 1 as good drivers with a knowledge of driving skills and the laws they need to follow.The staff at ADA is competent and friendly. Our kids range from 17 to 26, and none of them have had any accidents. Our family has received hundreds of hours of training and service from ADA, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Horrible place! Took my son here for his driving test. We paid $100.00 for the instructor (Joe H.) to tell my son he didnt pass the parallel parking test and that he has to pay an additional $100.00 to get parking lessons what a rip off. We took my son to a different place the exact same day he passed with no problem. Advanced driving academy is a rip off.

I have to strongly disagree with the negative comments on here. Had I seen them previous to making the appointment (road test) I probably would not have went, but I did go. The instructor was very informative, fair, and easy going. All the nervousness I had was unwarranted. As long as you know how to drive reasonably well, this company will not hassle you.

They have really well instructor specially my instructor mishal who trained me v well and give me very good techniques and tips how to avoid bad drivers how to drive defensively i am very thankful to you mishal and also the Adv big boss the owner who is very kind and active person and run his driving school’ very efficiently . Long story short, the friendly staff was proactive and saved my time and money.I started my morning with a voicemail informing me that I was late for an appointment.Sure enough, upon checking the ADA website, I saw that I had incorrectly reserved a time slot and was entirely certain my mistake would have me paying for a retake.I returned the call to explain my folly to the tester, who had likely been sitting in an empty, raining parking lot for half an hour, and reschedule my appointment. The fellow on the other end of the phone was courteous, patient, and asked if Id be able to make it later the same day. I made sure to arrive early and, thanks to his willingness to move my appointment, what I was sure would throw a wrench in my morning ended up not costing me a penny. The test was concise and professional, as well. Overall, it was a pleasant experience that left me highly satisfied. I could not recommend more.

Due to some health issues, I had not renewed my license voluntarily. Four years later, I finally decided it was time to get my Driver License active again. I found out that I needed to take the Road test because of how long it had been since my license was valid.This made me really nervous. In the years since my original road test, driver training and expectations have changed. On top of those changes, I also had 33 years of driving and bad habits under my belt. So, I was very concerned whether I could pass a road test under the current operator standards and test criteria.Don Stimmel recognized the key pain points of my having to take the road test. He understood my concerns without me having to voice them and he put me at ease.While I was still nervous during the test, Dons easy manner and communicative approach (mentor while testing) resulted in me doing well enough to pass the road test.Also, I have severe hearing loss in my right ear, which of course is the direction in which the driver instructor sits. Don recognized this as well and ensured that I was able to hear him and, if I asked for him to repeat the instructions, he did so without any sign of frustration.I highly recommend the Advanced Driving Academy, and Don Stimmel, for Adults who wish to take driving courses or who may need to retake the road test. Not only is he very safety conscious but he has lived through the changes in driver criteria, understands, and can communicate the whys and hows of the rules we should follow on the road.Thanks Don! I hope I wont need your services again, but if that happens, I will be sure to schedule with you as well as recommend you to anyone that needs your mentorship and training.

My son enrolled into Advanced Driving Academy a few years back. He said he was glad to have the instructions of police officers. Now, my second oldest is soon to take the classes!

I went there today for my road test and I had an amazing instructor . I would recommend definitely recommend this place .

These teachers are teaching drivers to honk at cyclists and pass them in an unsafe manner. I hope they are shut down. A car is a dangerous weapon, and their job is to teach the student to safely operate it.

Rude, condescending, and unprofessional. If youre a young driver, stay away from this place. They take advantage of you, and simply take your money. Youre left with no recourse. The cars they rent are equipped with features that most first time drivers cars do not have. When my daughter was taking her test, her rude, cocky instructor told her to use the backup camera to parallel park. When she told him that her vehicle isnt equipped with a camera, and she doesnt know how to use the one in the vehicle, the instructor told her to, go buy one. Theyre only about $100. My wife and I are making our daughter pay her way for her privilege to drive. As you can imagine, its not cheap to get yourself on the road. So $100 a pop for a road test is a lot of money for a kid. And this instructor has the audacity to tell her to buy a backup camera?!? Then, when my daughter told him she doesnt have a spare $100 lying around, he asked her, What? Arent you working? Is that in any way, shape, or form any of his business??? First, she is in fact working. Again, none of the instructors business. Second, how are you supposed to use equipment on a vehicle that youve never used before?My daughter spoke with the owner to see if there was anything they could do, and to let him know how arrogant and condescending the instructor was. When my daughter told the owner she wouldnt be returning to his business, he told her shes saying that because youre emotional. So obviously you can tell the condescension comes directly from the top. To tell a young woman shes being emotional in this day and age, speaks volumes to the antiquated mentality at this place. Im surprised he didnt ask if she was having her period. Of course lets not forget how the owner kept calling my daughter little lady. I think its time for Advanced Driving Academy to catch up with the times before someones attorney catches up with them.STAY AWAY.******UPDATE******In response to Leonards desperate attempt to nullify my criticism.First, you cannot nullify someones opinion by simply saying the complaint is unfounded. Especially when you take into consideration you admitted to at least some of the complaints.Second, I never said your savior, Joe was a bad person. I did say he was rude, condescending, and unprofessional. There is a difference. Maybe he was emotional that day... Were you out on the course when my daughter was taking the test? I was, as was my father in law. I dont remember seeing you. Unless you were the gentleman standing there when I was speaking with the almighty Joe. If in fact, that was you, wouldnt it behoove you, as a business owner, to step in and find out what was wrong? I would.I was sitting directly next to my daughter when your little lady/young lady comments came out of your mouth. It wasnt taken out of context. Nor was it blown out of proportion. Unprofessional is unprofessional. Its impolite to call someone a liar. But since the shoe fits you....My daughter was upset. That lasted about 10 minutes. Then we went elsewhere, and what do ya know? All is well. To tell someone theyre being emotional, is never a smart business move.Leonard did call again today. After I wrote my review. Not one time during this short conversation did he mention my review. If his resolve is so strong with his business and his representatives, why not bring it up while I was on the phone with him? Maybe because you have no leg to stand on because, again, you werent there. Maybe you were the guy at the front desk that ignored us until we spoke up.Full disclosure. Leonard did offer whatever he said he offered. But! Who would go back to a business with such poor professionalism? We certainly didnt.In conclusion, Leonard is simply dismissive of any and all criticism. You can see this in his response. I stand by my original review. More so now than ever. It seems that no one at Advanced would know true professionalism. Even if it drove over their foot.

I took the DL test and I have to say the instructor is very good and fair person. Joe Hays, gives direction well ahead of time, lets you make proper decisions. He gives fair warnings in case you are following too closely or speeding (only upto 4mph above limit).Test site is kind of difficult to find, so plan to arrive at location 10 min ahead of appointment time.
