I love Kealing. The teachers are all extremely nice except a few. Definitely prepares you for high school and beyond. Great electives and teachers passionate about teaching them. Amazing Orchestra and Band Program. Location is a little far from my house and the homework takes some getting used to but otherwise great!

Im a 6th grader in the Magnet Program here, and its a good school. The academy and magnet programs are fairly well integrated, the teachers are nice and the homework load isnt as bad as people say. The school was built in 1986, and it shows its age. Overall, would recommend.

My son was transferred from Martin Middle and WOW what a difference! My son actually loves to go to school! The teachers are amazing. having a child with ADHD can be pretty hectic but the staff has always been very supportive in getting my son the extra help he needs! although my son is not in the Magnet Program he does have classes with the students of the magnet and it nice to know that he is among some of the most talented kids in Austin and their excellent work habits do rub off on him. Thank you Kealing for all you do to allow children of ethnicity to feel welcomed and motivated to learn!

My daughters years in the Magnet program were good, and she seemed happy with her teachers. My experiences, however, leave much (possibly everything) to be desired. The five or so times I needed to go to the main office I was summarily ignored. I was not greeted when I walked into the reception area and, even when standing at the main desk I was ignored until I could convince someone not to ignore me by politely intruding into their office-shaped world with a subtle excuse me.

This school can be very ghetto at times, but is awesome! I mean, sure, there are fights and normal cursing, but is still a friendly environment! I mean, sure, there is a lot of freaking homework, but the teachers i am sure love there jobs and care A LOT!!!! Even though the Bathrooms smell like crud, its all still good! Even though Mr. Wallace takes kids lunchboxes and never gives them back (kidding), hes awesome! Good school all around

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory, on the morning of December 7, 1941. The attack, also known as the Battle of Pearl Harbor, led to the United States entry into World War II. The Japanese military leadership referred to the attack as the Hawaii Operation and Operation AI, and as Operation Z during its planning.Japan intended the attack as a preventive action to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions they planned in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States. Over the next seven hours there were coordinated Japanese attacks on the U.S.-held Philippines, Guam and Wake Island and on the British Empire in Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The attack commenced at 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian Time (18:18 UTC). The base was attacked by 353 Imperial Japanese aircraft (including fighters, level and dive bombers, and torpedo bombers) in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four sunk. All but the USS Arizona were later raised, and six were returned to service and went on to fight in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded.Important base installations such as the power station, dry dock, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section), were not attacked. Japanese losses were light: 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 64 servicemen killed. One Japanese sailor, Kazuo Sakamaki, was captured. The surprise attack came as a profound shock to the American people and led directly to the American entry into World War II in both the Pacific and European theaters. The following day, December 8, the United States declared war on Japan, and several days later, on December 11, Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. The U.S. responded with a declaration of war against Germany and Italy. Domestic support for non-interventionism, which had been fading since the Fall of France in 1940, disappeared. There were numerous historical precedents for unannounced military action by Japan, but the lack of any formal warning, particularly while negotiations were still apparently ongoing, led President Franklin D. Roosevelt to proclaim December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy. Because the attack happened without a declaration of war and without explicit warning, the attack on Pearl Harbor was later judged in the Tokyo Trials to be a war crime.War between Japan and the United States had been a possibility that each nation had been aware of (and developed contingency plans for) since the 1920s, though tensions did not begin to grow seriously until Japans 1931 invasion of Manchuria. Over the next decade, Japan continued to expand into China, leading to all-out war between those countries in 1937. Japan spent considerable effort trying to isolate China and achieve sufficient resource independence to attain victory on the mainland; the Southern Operation was designed to assist these efforts.Pearl Harbor on October 30, 1941, looking southwestFrom December 1937, events such as the Japanese attack on USS Panay, the Allison incident, and the Nanking Massacre (the International Military Tribunal of the Far East concluded that more than 200,000 Chinese non-combatants were killed in indiscriminate massacres, though other estimates have ranged from 40,000 to more than 300,000) swung public opinion in the West sharply against Japan. Fearing Japanese expansion, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France provided loan assistance for war supply contracts to China.

I went to Kealing for 3 years. I am currently a freshman and I think incoming 6th graders should know what there getting into. Your most likely gonna make some friends. There are tons of different kinds of people at Kealing because the kids all come from separate neighborhoods. The teachers are relatively nice but some act and teach differently than the others. So, socially; Kealings a good place to go. Although you may end up with some interesting opinions of you if you go to AHS afterwords. The sports program at Kealing is a good transition place to high school athletics. Depending on what sport you do, you can be worked a lot exercising. They have good teams despite what other schools say.Through the first 6 weeks the teachers hold your hand in help you into this harder experience. They teach organization and google drive (SMIA). I suggest you pay attention because that will help a lot in future years. The homework load is manageable if your organized. You may be overwhelmed at one point, I suggest you use google tasks. Its effective and free. The classes at Kealing are original but you are quite segregated from the academy (neighborhood) kids. The electives are fun and give you a good break from your core classes. If I could summarize Kealing in three words, it would be High School Prep.

Kealing Middle School is a public high school in Austin, Texas, in the Austin Independent School District. The school contains one of four magnet programs in Austin and specializes in all subjects, although the program is usually known as a math and science specialist. Kealing also contains a program known as Academy, formerly known as success through academics and Accountability (STAR) and the Comprehensive Academic Program (CAP). Kealing High School has a variety of academic competition teams, including Bowl Quiz, Open Knowledge Masters, Mathcounts and Science Olympics. The Quiz Bowl A-, B - and C - National Teams swept middle school in May 2011, first, fourth and fifth place winner and in April 2012 won the 1st, 5th and 7th. The quiz bowl team won second in the 2013 MSNCT run by NAQT.Three teams are also qualified for the next MSNCT and another for high school nationals. Try Bowl in Kealing is a difficult course, but it is worth it. On December 8, 2011, it was announced that the open Masters Knowledge team had finally won for the first time in the United States after many attempts over many years to overthrow Longfellow Middle School. Kealing Middle School opened its doors in 1930 as the first African United States high school in Austin (originally known as Anderson High School). The school was closed in 1971 in efforts to fight segregation. The Anderson campus was set on fire by a fire, but the school reopened 1986 under the name Kealing Junior High School. In 2004, Kealing expanded to include sixth grade students and becomes a high school.
