Going to Tates as a kid was where I created some of my best childhood memories. It is a fantastic school that not only teaches you standard circulum but it also teaches you valuable people skills that you dont find at any other school in the area. If you want your child to receive an outstanding education and grow as a human being, this is the school for you. I am so happy that my nephew is attending Tates and that he gets to experience and create new lasting memories as well as life long friends. Thank you so much to the Tates family for helping me become the person I am today and for taking great care of my Miles! All my love to you and your family for all you do to help provide an education to so many kids.

Tates is the school I wish I could have gone to as a kid. Lots to do outdoors. Great student teacher ratios. Spanish. Music. Not traditional extra curricular activities. Woods to explore. A pond and a garden. Mrs. Tate has done something wonderful and inspires greatness in her staff and teachers. My son is in kindergarten. Started in pre k. Loves it. As soon as hes out of the car he runs to class. Teachers are communicative and understanding when addressing development and behaviors. We looked at quite a few schools in Knoxville. Tates stands out on its own.

Tates School has a strong focus on STEAM activities, natural and outdoor learning, and their ability to incorporate fun into learning is amazing. Many lessons are applied in a hands-on format rather than just reading something from a book. We went from having a child who dreaded each day of school to asking to arrive early each day. I love the fact that kids can just be kids at Tates School while they learn and navigate the social challenges of growing up. Its really amazing to see imagination, creativity, teamwork, strategy and respect at work when the kids are working on projects and lessons together. I highly recommend Tates School!

My son has been at Tates School since he was 3-years-old. I could not ask for a better elementary school experience for him. From the 52+ acre campus, to his log cabin classroom, to his caring and knowledgeable teachers, Tates School has been a true blessing to my son and our family for the last seven years. And I am proud to say that I also have the privilege of teaching at Tates School.

My grandchild has been attending Tates School since kindergarten and I am happy to say she has loved every moment of her educational and social experience. The school student to teacher ratio is small which is ideal for personal and individual attention. Each child is treated as a unique and special person and the academics are exemplary. I only wish my own children had the wonderful educational opportunity while growing up and we continue to be amazed at her personal growth at Tates.

My son attended Tates from K-5 (he is current a high school Junior), and it was without a doubt the best experience that we could have given him. He absolutely LOVED school, and learned so very much in his time there. He was very well-prepared for middle school. The smaller size of the school creates a sense of family immediately. The children, staff, and parents all depend on each other, and know that the goal is to help the child succeed, both educationally and socially.

I have known the Tate family since I was a little girl but had been on the schools campus in years! Recently, I had the opportunity to attend an Open House at the school. The atmosphere at the school was fantastic! Tracey Van Hook (one of the 3 sisters) gave me a tour of the school and outlined their plans for the expansion of the school as well as the minds of the children lucky enough to be students there. I was quite impressed with their library and the librarian. Their emphasis on reading creates an excitement about reading in even the most reticent. They can achieve this because of their small class size and ability to tailor the curriculum when needed to make sure a child will succeed.Their attention to the needs of the students is even evidenced in the classroom furniture! We all know children fidget. That energy can be either destructive or constructive. In the case of Tates, it has been harnessed, literally, by the desks themselves! The desks are very unique in that they are on wheels! A small thing maybe but it allows the students to use that energy without detracting from the work at hand. I can honestly say it seems like the school has thought of everything with the benefit of the children always coming first. If you are looking for a nurturing academic environment for your child, I would highly recommend a visit to Tates School of Discovery!

Tate’s has given my daughter her love of learning back. As a parent, I was not a proponent of “private is better than public.” In fact, I felt strongly that my daughter would benefit more in her understanding of the world if she attended public school, which she did the first two years of elementary school. What I hadn’t anticipated with public school, however, was how the teachers were stretched too thin with large classes, and how the introduction of the Common Core made learning a rigid march toward the test. Although my daughter was a top student, she was miserable and cried nearly every morning. She began to hate school and started to lose interest in subjects that she’d once loved. I didn’t want this to be the foundation of her education. She began 2nd grade at Tate’s, and the shift was almost immediate. The teachers are creative and believe learning should be fun, even magical. They believe kids learn better when their days include movement and fresh air. And in no way are the kids “coddled,” which I think is a common misperception of private schools (one I admittedly had). My daughter has been encouraged to challenge herself with a “growth” mindset, meaning each lesson or challenge is an opportunity for discovery. Her enthusiasm for learning returned quickly, and she continues to flourish while now in 3rd grade at Tate’s. During the second week of school this year, she hopped out of the car one morning with a big smile and said, “I wonder what’s going to happen today!” That sums it up—Tate’s fosters the curiosity, the willingness, for life-long learning.I can’t say enough about this school—from the administration, the teaching staff, the other students, the fun campus. Somehow Tate’s manages to have a very down-to-earth feel, while quietly delivering excellence at every turn. Tate’s has far exceeded our expectations, and we are deeply grateful.

Terrible. They are building their way and are up right in front of my house, so I cannot go outside without seeing a bunch of screaming kids going down a ten foot long zip line. Took all of the privacy we had. Of all the places they could have put a summer camp, they choose next to a busy road. No mountains, no nature, nothing good, where they can have a real zip line.

I regret sending my child here. My son was a little behind because of a speech delay and they brought us in for a meeting two weeks into preschool and said he could not come back the next day. We did not even get to get any of his artwork. They said he was very well behaved but the school was not a right fit for him. The school is strictly a business and they do not take pride in actually educating children. *addition* Tates School said they spoke with my sons speech therapist and that she confirmed he was too far behind. I just spoke with the speech therapist and she said she called and no one ever called her back.
