I took my discovery flight with Above and Beyond Aviation and it was amazing! Bobbi was incredibly attentive and quick to respond and paired me with Andrew for my first flight. Andrew was AMAZING!!! He was super knowledgable, calm, encouraging, and fun to fly with. I absolutely want to continue flying with them and Im so stoked I found them. I would definitely recommend!

I completed my entire PPL training with Above and Beyond, and I could not be more grateful for choosing them as my flight school. All of the instructors that I was able to work with were all great and administration was keen on quality control with their instructors and aircraft maintenece. The admin at Above and Beyond would consistently reach out to see how things were going with my instructor and if I was satisfied. All of the instructors I worked with really took their time to get to know me and adapt their teachings to me. Rather than having a set curriclum, Instructors would introduce everything one by one then tailor the training to my strengths and weaknessess. The whole expereince really made it seem like they cared for my training and process to becoming a pilot. On another note, Above and Beyond is one of the CHEAPEST flight schools in Texas. Their rental rates are super reasonable and their instructor rates are practically unheard of. I cannot reccommend Above and Beyond enough for anyone looking to get their PPL or just go up for an introductory flight.

This has got to be one of the best flight schools out there. If youre in the Austin Area, this is the one to choose. I have not done training with them yet due to an unforeseen issue with my Medical, but Ill write based on my experience leading up to this point.First of all, their communication is unmatched. Ive never had a better experience with any other business Ive worked with. They reply in a very timely manner, answer all of your questions, send detailed and clear instructions for everything leading up to your first flight. I dont think the process could have been easier.I booked a discovery flight with them and my instructor, Andrew, reached out to me separately, and gave me all the information regarding the flight upcoming. He was extremely responsive, and answered all the questions I had for him. I arrived to the airport the day of my discovery flight, and Andrew was right there to greet me. He did a great job walking me through what we were doing on the flight, and he was once again always happy to answer my questions. We walked out and preflighted the aircraft, hopped in and taxied to the runway. Thats where we were cleared for takeoff, and he let me take off myself on my first flight, which was definitely an experience Ill never forget. After flying around the city for some time and performing a few basic maneuvers (all of which I was at the controls of the majority of the time) we headed back to the airport and landed. Afterwards, we went and chatted about training and parted ways.As the time came to start training, unfortunately complications arose with my medical exam that grounded me. I reached out to Bobbi to let her know what happened, and she could not have been better. She wrote me a long and caring email, giving me all the information I needed to move forward, and made an effort to connect me with people who have gone through similar situations, which was extremely comforting. She quite literally went above and beyond what she needed to and as a consumer there is nothing that I could have imagined going better. As a 16 year old trying to figure out my passion, and trying to pave my own path to pursue my dreams of being a pilot, the process of becoming a pilot can be confusing and very intimidating, and nobody could have done better to be there to answer my questions and help me along every step of my journey so far than Above and Beyond, and I have absolutely no doubt that will continue to be the case as I move forward with this journey. Thanks and thank you again to everyone at above and beyond for being so awesome. If youre thinking about working with them, Id highly recommend them!!

I moved to Austin with a few training hours under my belt already. Above and Beyond was recommended to me by a friend who got their private pilot’s certificate with them.A & B picked up with me where I left off with no issue. My instructor was patient, helpful, and knew his stuff. You go through as fast or as slow as you would like. The aircraft are well maintained too, which was an issue at my previous school. I would definately recommend Above & Beyond to anyone wanting to get a license.

I had a great flight with Jonathan Taylor this afternoon. While the flight was somewhat stressful for me with the wind gusts and the crosswind at EDC, Jonathans friendly instructional style and calm demeanor made the flight very enjoyable. Jonathan shared several tips and suggestions on navigating the complex KAUS airspace and made for a very successful flight. I always enjoy learning from new instructors and Jonathan shared several tips and concepts I have added to my flight bag.

I started my PPL training with Above & Beyond in December 2019 and passed my check ride early July 2020 (with two months off due to the Covid shutdown). I had some past training from a few years prior in a 150 but transitioned to the 172 at Above & Beyond.I did my training with Mike, who was an excellent instructor and gave me confidence in flying the airplane. Lesson times were very flexible. I did most of my training on the weekends or after 4PM during the week.

Just had my flight review and was a great experience. George made me feel very relaxed and was a constant reminder that its not a test and not to feel pressure on pass / fail, but a pleasure flight to demonstrate ability in a safe environment. Ground review really got me thinking on my weak areas and we had the opportunity to focus on them on the ground then put into practice in the air. We even threw in a short field at KEDC that Ive had on my to-do list. After landing we went over some items to consider, but I never felt criticized.I did eavesdrop on another instructor doing a very detailed and informative post flight for an IFR student. I was quite impressed how thought out the review was and how clear his instructions were on areas for this student to focus on for the IFR check ride.Any rusty pilot or current pilot seeking to improve a weak areas should seriously consider taking a lesson from Above.

I started my private pilot training at Above and Beyond Aviation last summer, and it was essentially where I learned to fly. I trained with Jeff Uskert a CFI out of here, who also took me on my discovery flight and cemented my attraction to aviation. Jeff was a kind, easy to communicate with instructor, and you can tell he truly cares about his students and their success. I did not finish my PPL in Austin, however I still communicate and chat with Jeff quite regularly. One point of emphasis he also was keen on was safety and doing things the right way. Jeff was truly a great instructor and I still regret to this day not finishing my license with him. As far as the aircraft and airport were concerned, AUS is quite the busy field which can induce challenges and benefits to trianing. The planes were typically well kept and maintained as best as could be expected. The administrative side of things and scheduling also went quite smoothly.

An absolutely amazing experience! Bobbi was so friendly when I called to set up my intro to flying lesson. When we arrived, the pilot Shelby was very friendly and knowledgeable. He made me feel comfortable when actually taking the plane controls even though Ive never flown before. He even took the time to answer all of our questions after the flight. I would definitely recommend this company!!!

I had an absolute blast doing my training from Private through Commercial with above & beyond. I would recommend them to anyone. The Owners George and Bobbi Farris are two of the kindest most fantastic people you will ever meet in aviation. Please, do yourself a favor and check them out if you are considering doing flight training in the Austin area.

Many students at this school end up paying nearly $25,000 for a private pilots license. After incurring such an expense, they are often met with a disapproval when examined by an FAA examiner. I have flown with many of the instructors at A&B and they are almost all nice and seem very capable, but when push comes to shove, they arent preparing their students per the ACS guidelines and more importantly for their FAA exam. When attending Georges UT school, he will say that it costs under $7,000 to get a PPL if you use a Cessna 150. That is simply a lie. Someone should ask them what their average number of hours a student takes to get signed off by one of their CFIs before taking their FAA examination. My guess is they wont know or they will ballpark. I would demand an actual. Then ask how many fail their exams. Its a lot. If you attend this school it will take nearly 100 hrs to get a CFI signature and you wont be any more prepared than if you got it at a school with 45 hrs.Its a racket. The CFIs and Above & Beyond (George & Bobbie) make more money by delaying the process and racking up hours on their airplanes and hours with their CFIs instruction time. They stand behind the notion of hiring contractors so they can remove themselves from the equation. Whatever the formula, the only people getting screwed are the students and many are afraid of writing such a candid review as this.Nobody wants to say this because its a tight nit aviation community and everybody knows everybody. Its wrong. Its unethical. Its expensive and it needs to stop. Many would argue that it is subjective and each student is different. Thats also not true. Many flight schools take ~9 months and approximately 45 hours to prepare students for an FAA examination to become a pilot. The average SHOULD be around $7,500. This school is at least double that and many are failing their exams. It is only in small part that student pilots have to fly out to the SE practice area to begin their flight excercises. It is in LARGE part that there is a major disconnect between the CFIs instruction and the FAA examiner. Its all about stacking students hours and nothing to do with completing the program.Unfortunately, the aviation community is so small that many students dont want to speak up for fear of retribution or thinking it was them that simply couldnt handle what it takes to become a pilot. This isnt true. Anyone of sound body with a determined mindset can become a pilot and normally for around $7,500-$10,000, just not at this school.Go somewhere (anywhere) else when choosing your flight school.Avoid this company.

I am from Singapore and I did my PPL here during my time as an exchange student in Austin. Bobbi was very friendly and helpful in getting me set up to join the school. She patiently answered all the queries I had before I flew over which assured me that I was in good hands.I took my flying lessons with a few instructors but the most notable among them was John Prickett. I was very comfortable with him in the cockpit and he was able to accurately pick up the mistakes I had and provided the proper guidance to resolve them. I managed to pass my flight test in my first attempt despite having low hours (40+).If I ever have the chance to visit Austin again, I will definitely head back to Above & Beyond to do some GA flying!

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful first lesson with George. I think flying is an experience everyone should try at least once, and this is a great place to do it if you live in or around Austin. George is very friendly and is willing to answer any questions you have. Just an enjoyable, fun time all around. Try it!
